    Design error

Prestige Kitchen & Bath is a below average shop. Their design, implementation, and quality issues make for inferior results. The contractor is inconsiderate of your concerns and time. Most people are workers as opposed to craftsman. Quality suffers at every level. This is not the shop to deal with if you want to keep your blood pressure down. We kept the same basic layout of our existing kitchen while adding a peninsula, removed 2 of 3 soffits and replaced a pantry with a cabinet unit. In total, 18 'boxes' were installed along with a subway tile backsplash, quartz countertops and a new hood with an outside vent. The existing wood floors were resurfaced. The electric was rewired adding or repositioning several outlets. Existing light fixtures were replaced with recessed LEDs. A new electric panel was installed including 5 new circuits. We worked with a Prestige designer for 9 weeks before signing a contract to get on the cabinet build schedule. It took another 20 weeks for the Eclipse Shiloh cabinets to arrive. Demolition started March 2022. Throughout the project there were 19 different workers doing a total of 250 man-hours of work. 240 hours were completed in the first 8 weeks. The remaining work took another 10 weeks due to defects in work & materials, poor scheduling, and errors in ordering. The project took a year from start to finish. For construction we were assigned Jakub's crew. Jakub is unprofessional, technically weak, inconsiderate and a poor communicator. It was near impossible to get straight answers. Jakub's focus was on keeping all his projects moving without regard for anything else, including quality. We were able to work with the designer longer than other companies before signing a contract. That was main reason for choosing Prestige - we had many of the details already worked out. In the end the design had two significant errors: 1) The designer incorrectly measured one of the walls. Smaller filler panels had to be rushed ordered to make the cabinets fit but now we can't have the pantry and frig doors open at the same time. 2) Jakub only left a 23.5" opening for a 24" dishwasher. Turns out the design was wrong (see pic). One big disappointment is the results don't match the design. On the edges of the kitchen, we wanted the backsplash and upper & lower cabinet sides to all be in line. That's the way it is in the drawings, but the bottom cabinets are off by 3". That is a whopping difference! Measuring after installation, NONE the filler panel widths are the same as in the drawings. The drywall work is horrendous - no seams were feathered so all the dips and valleys they created are very apparent after the cabinets were installed. They created gouges in the wall that were never corrected. The drywall they hung where the old soffits were removed is not 90 degrees to the wall causing the new hood vent cover to not sit flat against the ceiling. Within 1 month ceiling seam cracks showed up where they patched. In their haste, they neglected to patch the large hole. Instead of repairing hole, they mounted a cabinet next to it and said it was OK for me to start painting. After weeks of me prodding, they "fixed" the hole by filling it with Styrofoam pieces and mudding over it. Unbelievable! From day 1, I asked Jakub to keep the existing window wood trim pristine. There was no protection put on the wood and the workers nicked and scuffed the trim. In the middle of their drywall work I had to tape the trim myself to try to limit further damage. Prestige "preps" the walls/ceiling for painting, including primer. It's the homeowner's responsibility for the actual painting. The primer was slopped on the newly installed recessed lights. The wall prep was so bad I had to repaint my satin finish in a 2nd coat of flat paint just to try to hide the irregularities. Prestige uses caulk to hide their poor workmanship. Instead of creating flat walls and ceiling, the gaps they created were filled in with caulk. The caulk between the crown molding and ceiling has already started to separate. Their use of caulk will cause me maintenance issues for years to come. It was obvious Jakub was not going to follow the manufacturer's requirements to use a mounting block for the 35 lb. hood. After failing to get any answers from Jakub, I told the onsite worker I would install a mounting block myself after which he installed one. Also, the hood's operation was never tested. The hood's air flow sensor and air pressure switch were both installed incorrectly which stopped the makeup air vent from opening. I had to test and fix both problems myself. There are many more examples, but space is limited. My advice before choosing a remodeling shop is to be comfortable with all the people you will be dealing with. We shouldn't have ignored the red flags when Jakub first came out to the house before we signed a contract.

We remodeled our kitchen with Prestige. I highly recommend them. From redesigning the layout to implementation - this is a one stop shop. Their team of installers, tilers, plumbers and electricians work together like a well-oiled machine. They were very patient with my questions and addressed all my concerns immediately. Who does that? Well, they do and I couldn't be happier! I love my new kitchen. They were quicker than I expected - 14 work days to be exact (they don't work weekends) and great with communication. They replaced parts of my hardwood floors, did beautiful plumbing (thats what the hubby said), added circuit breakers, added outlets and more lighting as well as install new cabinetry. Ron and Jacob were a pleasure to work with. It's refreshing to find a company who cares about customer service and have excellent work ethics. Not just the 2 people mentioned, but everyone who came to do work. They were all fantastic!

When we bought our 1920's brick bungalow we loved every part of it...well...except the kitchen. I knew that I wanted to be respectful to the history of the house but with all the modern conveniences. I also knew Jane from Prestige was the right person for the job. I had called around to several places but when I let Jane and spoke to her, I knew pretty quickly I wanted to do business with Prestige with her as the leader. They did such a great job on the kitchen that a year later we hired them to completely renovate our basement. Walls came down, different walls went in and they even put in a full bathroom. I would call them again...I wish I had another room to redo!

Professionalism: From the outset, the owner, Karl, demonstrated outstanding professionalism. He provided a prompt, competitive estimate, and the final cost actually came in slightly under budget. The demolition was carried out with surgical precision, and the entire worksite was kept immaculately clean throughout the project. Karl and his partner David handled all the work themselves--eliminating the typical delays and coordination issues that come with juggling multiple subcontractors. Creativity and Craftsmanship: Karl's insight during the planning phase helped us reimagine the layout to maximize both space and functionality. He offered thoughtful, practical design suggestions that elevated the final result, guiding us toward choices that added real value. Karl and David brought an old-world craftsmanship and an impeccable attention to detail to every stage of the process. High-quality materials were used throughout, and Karl's network of skilled artisans--including a stone mason and glass cutter--ensured that every component was expertly sourced and installed at a fair price. In short, ABA Remodeling delivered exceptional quality and service at a value that's hard to beat. We had such a positive experience that we're already planning a second renovation project with them.

After asking questions to get a better understanding of the project, he gave us a quote and told us he could be out there the following morning. When Jay arrived with his team member, Juan, he re-explained what the project would entail and then Juan got to work. Juan ensured everything was covered and protected from the drywall dust/paint drips and worked extremely efficiently. Within 6 hours, our project was complete. As we are looking for a new home to purchase, we will definitely be reaching out to Dirty Deeds for any renovation needs.

So many contractors have unclear paper contracts, if they have one at all! The process made everything really easy and efficient. We will definitely be using them again!

He has great ideas and isn't afraid to tell you if something you want to do isn't necessarily worth the expense (which we very much appreciated). They delivered high-quality work that leveraged their knowledge and expertise to ensure our new space was functional and beautiful. Some things you look for in a general contractor and rarely find are the ability to stay close to budget and timelines, and Jim and his team did both of these! Jim does a thorough of a job putting designs/estimates together, and the only change order we had (that wasn't scope creep on our part) was for some poor electrical a previous owner did that Jim couldn't have anticipated. In addition, Jim keeps your project moving. We rarely went two days without someone at the house making progress on our project; there were no extended delays due to materials or labor issues. Jim and his team also excel at problem solving. Every project has hiccups along the way, but every issue is tackled and Jim won't stop until the solution works for you. As an example, we were having trouble matching the color of some new hardwood floors to older, existing floors in the house. He helped us put down 16 stain samples and promised we would keep trying until we got it right (and we finally did!). It was very clear our happiness was extremely important to him. If you are looking for a contractor who is honest, knowledgeable, responsive, efficient, affordable, and fun to work with, Independent Remodeling is who you should work with. It's hard to find a company you would want to use a second time, but Jim will be the first person we call for future projects in our house, and who we will recommend to friends and family if they are looking to complete a project in their home.

Replace electrical outlet and wall switch. Install new accessories. Nothing in the contract said anything about painting trim and door. Demo went fine but that's all. The mud was applied to walls and let dry, but they weren't sanded smooth. Then the primer and paint got applied all over the trim, door, window sides and unsanded walls. The bathroom door was painted with flat paint which looks terrible because they got paint on the door and they tried to hide it with white paint. The problem is the wall color was dark and the white didn't cover it. Plus they should have used trim paint NOT flat paint. The vanity was reinstalled and the bottom half of the toilet. At this point, after seeing how horrible the walls and the painting turned out we stopped the project. The worker was getting hostile with his tone, kept saying that he's not finished, but when we asked how he was going to fix everything he had no answers. We asked him if he wasn't finished why did he install the vanity. He said he would sand the walls and repaint, but we wouldn't allow that because the vanity was installed and he would get sanding residue all over it and behind it. The owner's nephew came by to see the damage and took pictures. At that time we terminated the project and asked for a partial refund, which we did receive. However, after they left hours later we found a leak under the vanity sink and had to call a plumber to fix it. Come to find out the valve was broken, and it was broken during reinstallation because the broken valve handle was laying on the shelf of the new vanity. Had I have known this I would have asked for a bigger refund because we had to pay for a new valve replacement. This wasn't a difficult project. We bought everything, all they had to do is what we asked and agreed to. They could not provide quality work in the two days they were on the project. I would never hire them again.
