This is a super cute kite shop! I love all the fans that lightly blow on the kites to make them come alive and simulate them soaring up in the atmosphere! Outside the shop there is a fun turtle whirlybird that moves ever so slowly in the breeze. The two sales girls that I interacted with were very friendly and answered a few questions I had. The store is full of kites that ranged from simple to advanced. They also had yard decorations. We bought 4 items and tested out our kite last weekend. My family was staying in town prior to a cruise when our rental car got a flat tire. We were able to pull into a parking lot to call for help. Our two toddler boys were getting restless, so we looked up and saw Kites Unlimited- where my wife and kiddos went in to kill time while I waited for a tow truck. The staff member who was there took the time to show our boys all the cool kites, and when she heard our situation, she even let my boys pick out a flying spinner toy for free- and those things were a total hit! She made a crappy situation so much better and turned a negative experience into a really cool memory for our family. The world needs more people like her! read more

We are in an AirBnB in Freeport for the week and we saw all the fun kites people were flying on the beach. We are total amateurs but decided to give it a try. As soon as we walked into the store a super nice guy asked us if we needed help and patiently explained the basics to us. We left with two kites, a big blue one ($50), a medium mermaid one ($30) and two spools ($8-12). We were able to fly the mermaid one with great success to the thrill of my toddler, and we will try the bigger one today! read more

I came here to find a simple kite to use while walking on the beach. I walked in shortly before closing time and was immediately greeted by the young guy working the counter. He asked if I was looking for anything in particular and told me that he's there if I need to ask any additional questions. I quickly found a satisfactory kite with psychedelic patterns (about $30) and checked out. The worker offered me tips and explained in detail how to set up the kite properly. Easy and quick purchase. I cannot stress enough how much I absolutely love this kite store. They have such high quality kites that even a novice like me nailed it! Yes, on the way home, this noob did totally bust one of the pieces on my favorite kites from there, turt turt the turtle kite, but they offered to fix the bent bar free of charge! I mentioned it on our second trip back and didn't actually have turt turt with us but was told bring it back and they'll fix it! We were attempting surgery for turt turt back home with a dowel from a local hardware store that I will not name because they won't hire me for being over qualified and don't believe I wouldn't leave, but I digress. This is about kites. FUHD, I'd rock that garden center. Yes, that was all amazing but it is not the reason I created a yelp profile for a kite store review. I almost lost a finger trying to save a frog kite this visit to the coast even though the fecal matter content warning levels were meant to keep us at fecal bay, but to cut to the chase, I did not. I was brilliant enough to become entangled in a reel of kite string so badly that it wrapped around a ring, the ring containing Frankie's ashes, that may or may not have saved or been the cause of me thinking a kite string was going to Serena my index finger handmaid's style. I thought my kite had escaped to return home across the way to the store. We posted at the beach right in front. But alas, that was not my----------------- The owner said that he would keep an eye out and if he finds it that they would fly it for us to claim. AND THEY DID! An employee driving in from a couple blocks away behind the local cinema called in asking if they had lost a frog kite because she had seen one on the way to work. She wasn't sure because the road had its usual baseline of litter. The owner let her know, yep! and true to his word, not only did he rescue our kite, he repaired any broken pieces and flew it with all of his other kites to let us know they saved it for us. We told them we saw it but couldn't head over because we were going to be late to mass. I learned what Confirmation meant and when I said no they stared. I don't burn when I join them for Easter and if their time celebrating my birthday resonates deeper through the series of numbers on God's marquee to the side of the priest, I bought a new spool but they went took it down and gave it to us repaired. It had blown two blocks away and landed next to a highway behind the cinema nearby and was apparently ran over. This store is amazing. read more

Walked in to Kites Unlimited / Seawall last Thursday the 20th. All I can say is wow. Was greeted by the owner with a smile thru a mask, and ask if he could help. Wanted a is real simple kite , help me choose a 7.5 Patriot Wave airfoil. Had lunch hit the beach, the kite was a blast. Unbelievable selection & my kite was a great dollar value . Best kite shop and service on the Texas coast. Kites take me back to when I was a kid, must family stop. Buy a kite take the kids to the beach... Fun for all. An avid kite pilot, I love visiting kite shops when the opportunity presents itself. Of all the kite stores I've been to across the country, this one of my favorites! The people working were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their products. I love that they have each of their kites assembled and hanging from the wall or ceiling so you can see what it looks like, which I've only seen at one other kite store (Boulder, CO). In addition to a new kite, was also able to buy a new line and reel for another one of my older kites and they also have a wide assortment of tails. Highly recommend! I was hesitant to go figuring a kite shop in a tourist area would be super overpriced - I was totally wrong! Kites were reasonably priced and they were so nice and helpful. We were never pressured into making a purchase. We actually had some issues with one of the kites we purchased. When we brought it back the next day and the gentleman was so nice about it. He said let's go fly it outside and see what we can do. The issue persisted and he happily offered to swap it out for a new one - said " we can't let you go flying a bum kite, we want you to enjoy your kite". Even my 2 daughters (ages 11/14) kept talking about how nice he was and how great the experience was. read more

We went in here to get a little kite for my baby sister (I'm only 13) and we got a good quality little butterfly for her. Well the manager/owner guy saw me checking out the controlling kites that have 2 strings and he told me a lot about them and I got interested. Once my mom decided to let me get one he gave me a full blown lesson on how it works and how to fly it for FREE! This store has outstanding customer service. We don't live in this area but if we did this is where we would go every time we needed a kite. They have a fantastic selection of kites and they are all very knowledgeable. read more

My only critique was I thought I overheard a customer say they got a spool for free with the kite purchase so I expected that offer when I went up to pay but we were charged for them so I thought I must have heard wrong but then another sales person came up and seemed like he was about to say the spools were free but our sales guy cut him off, kind of hushing him. Very rude. ZERO customer service. BEWARE: ALL SALES FINAL!!! ... especially for gullible tourists! I was a typical tourist from the mid-week, spending the day with family on the Galveston beach. I have always wanted to fly one of those big, beautiful kites along the gulf, so the first stop was Kites Unlimited. I was the only customer in the store and immediately told an employee that I was an amateur, hadn't flown anything more complicated than a "Bat Kite" as a child, and had no idea what to buy. In the end, I spent over $200 on 2 big, colorful, "beginner" kites, kite string, and tails - guided through the process by an employee. When I later realized that I had purchased a complex 2 handled trick kite, I came back to the store (3 hours later) and explained that this is not what I wanted, that I wouldn't be able to fly it, and asked to exchange it for a simpler kite. The owner was extremely rude and told us she doesn't take returns or exchanges. I asked for some store credit at least, because the kite is unusable to me. She said "no" and walked away. There is no sign on the door, on the check out counter, or on the receipt stating "all sales final/no exchange". I am so disappointed that I spent money in that store. Perhaps that's how she treats tourists, knowing she can make some money, and never have to provide any customer service. If you want to fly a kite on the beach, go to a different store. When I walked out the door that day, I said, "Thank you. And now I'll be happy to write a Yelp review about you." read more

Spent 4 days on the island and in those 4 days we shopped at Kites Unlimited on 3 different occasions and made purchases each time. The people there are so helpful and friendly. Even if you are not intereseted in purchasing a kite, a flag, a windsock, etc, I still highly recommend you stop by and just see the large array of themed merchandise they have in stock and on display. 5 Stars.
