Where do I begin. My dad passed away, this Credit union was notified. It's been 6 months and they are still making us jump through hoops in order to claim a measly few thousand. They love adding insult to injury by delaying, denying, and ultimately taking advantage of the deceased. We have emailed them, called them, hand delivered documents, every single document they requested only to be told "no" once again. Hopefully none of the customer pass away because they will try to keep what they had and screw over the grieving family. We have put them on a 14 day notice before the lawyers get involved and we take this to trial where they will pay 2500% more for everything than just doing the right thing. But hey their a bank can you really expect anything less than the slimey business practices. I'm sure I'll get some automated response that does what they've been doing the past 6 months after his death and that's "deny and delay". No wonder why they're stuck in WA with horrible business practices like that how could you grow?... I dare this business to rebuttal as I will gladly post all the sensible documents exposing them. We had accounts for over 30 years and this year they started charging $3 per quarter to get paper statements. I told them we didn't want paper statements but they said the only way to opt out of the paper statement was to sign up for online banking. So I tried to sign up for online banking and it was a lengthy agonizing ordeal and it never worked. They even tried to walk me through the steps but because I was on the landline while talking to them, I could not go to the final step to get a security code on the phone. I got frustrated and said the hell with it and went in and closed the accounts. I believe they implemented this $3 paper statement fee to get rid of customers who don't make them any money. And the online banking is made difficult on purpose to get customers to quit. So I did!! Won't come back and recommend new customers look at other credit unions first. read more

I am very disappointed with the overall customer service I have been receiving for over a year. I am closing my account amd won't refer this company to anyone. Stay away ! Do not put your money in this company. I agree with all the reviews I have read and I just want to add on that it used to be good customer service bit for over a year I have been treated like I need to bow down and beg for service ! Not happening. My account is closed and I will be canceling my credit card also. Which by the way has doubled in fees and interest rates since I opened it about a decade ago. Too bad. This review is about their online services, not a particular branch, leaving here because according to the web, this is their headquarters / corporate office. Pretty horrible credit card service. Multiple systems, all disjointed. Web payment portal only available in a web browser and terribly dated looking software wise, doesn't show accurate info. Can't pay your bill in the KitsapCU mobile app. The amount due in the main app, and the web payment portal, are often a bit different. I always pay what the web payment portal says is the minimum, or a little bit over. I always pay my bill on time, and usually about a week before the due date. Like every other bill I have. In my two year payment history with them, this is what I have done, and no problems the entire time. Then I get a message this week saying my bill is past due. I already paid, which is visible in my payment history. I call in - turns out, the web payment portal was not accurate, and I still owe $42. So I was past due. My APR jumped up from 7 to 13%, no idea if this is a penalty, or when it happened, and no clear answers. Other cards I have, never had this problem. All my other cards, even those whose interest has increased a little with rate hikes, didn't increase THIS much. Thats almost double. Finally arrived at the conclusion that I was paying too early because my due date and cycle date are the same date, and even though I receive an invoice to my email in the middle of the month, paying before the due date means the payment might not be applied correctly, or may not be accurate. I have not ever received a late or past due notice before this week, or any notice that I still owed a balance. I have been paying the same way, for two years. Support is helpful, but talks in circles. Isn't willing to actually help, but just restate cycle dates, policy, and then tell me to ignore the web payment portal and only look at the app. The app is useless if I can't pay with it, so why keep it installed? Oh, just to make sure you always pay what is actually due, instead of trusting the web payment app to actually be accurate. Lame. Beyond Lame. End of convo - I know what to do going forward, no resolution about APR, and definitely going to pay it off asap and shred the card. I'm a business owner who uses my card for business. I love low APR credit union cards, they are better than personal loans, or business loan rates. But my other credit union cards, are all still 7-9% APR, Kitsap is the only card that jumped 5%. Something isn't right here, and they'd have a consistent reliable customer if I felt anyone genuinely wanted to help, but instead they loose my business going forward. read more

This review isn't related to a specific branch. I called what I thought was the downtown Bremerton branch interested in opening a business account. I wanted to make sure I had the paperwork needed before driving there. When the representative picked up the phone I asked "did I reach the downtown Bremerton branch?" and he seemed really thrown off by the question? There was a long awkward pause, which I assumed was because he was locating a script, then he read of something about how I reached the call center. Okay that's fine. "Can you please transfer me to a banker? I have questions about opening up a business account" - then he says "please hold on a moment while I check on this information" (???) So then I'm on hold for two minutes while he decides if he can transfer me. No he can't. He can have someone call me tomorrow. He asks for my member number for the call back. I don't have one, I'm interested in signing up. He doesnt seen to know what to do without a member number. I tell him nevermind. What kind of company makes it this hard for someone new wanting to work with them? I will now discourage anyone from bothering with this organization. Also, why call it Kitsap Credit Union if your customer service isn't even in Kitsap? That representative didn't even know what Bremerton was!!! Terrible, terrible first impression. I'll pay a monthly fee with Kitsap Bank for a business account over dealing with these people, thanks. read more

We had 40 grand in our account, we had a family member that needed $5 K loan for auto, he had $10 K as a down payment. We thought we would borrow $ 5k in our name and let him pay us installments so we could keep our balance where it was. They did not respond to our online application for 2 weeks! Who waits around 2 weeks for a small secured loan? We went ahead and just pulled out the money and made the transaction for the vehicle. 2 weeks later, we received notice in the mail the load was rejected! In 3 months we have been payed back the $ 5 k from our borrower! You would think someone would have just called us and explained they don't loan money to people who have money in their account! But instead sent the letter 2 weeks later. We are moving our money elsewhere! Apparently they are two busy for any personal service. Cheers read more

I have not only used them for personal accounts but for business and for my clients accounts. It is true they used to be much better. Alot of that has to do with change in management. It used to be that the branches had hands on managers who were out in the lobby, behind the windows, doing what needed to be done to give good customer service. Now they just sit in their offices visiting with people. The Highland branch as gone the most down. Port Orchard and East Bremerton are still decent. You do need to check your receipts because I have had them misread a check and also deposit something into another of my accounts that I did a previous transaction on. I hate that most of the branches don't have anyone to check you in if you need to sit down and talk to someone. PO still does most of the time but the others rarely or never do. Then you have to stand in line just to check in. And you worry someone will just bypass the line and say they need to check in which you are doing the proper thing by waiting your turn to talk to someone to check in. Anxiety provoking. And if you call you had better hope you get the branch because the call center they use are i-iots. Nothing but bad interactions and I just hang up with it is not the branch. read more

Kitsap Credit Union has an automatic penalty program for fake fees. The program charges a member $32 for overdrafts and $64 for NSF and returned payments. I would like to know how KCU (a so-called nonprofit) justifies these charges. I am retired and have automatic deposits on the first of the month and the third Wednesday of the month. If I make the smallest mistake, KCU charges at least $32 and has charged me up to several hundred dollars. Like many of us, I've made poor monetary judgments and have suffered from them. I consider KCU's charges to be excessive and discriminatory against those of us on a fixed income or those who have low incomes. I responded to a request for comments for a governmental department investigating fake fees and other banking efforts to take money away from its members. read more

My review is an issue with Kitsap credit union as a whole and not this specific branch. In fact all of the people I have dealt with at Kitsapcu have been really nice. To get down to the problem. I recently had my debit card shut off. I only knew this because I was attempting to pay for a full cart of groceries only to find out that my card was declined. Of course this was after hours so I had to wait until the next business day to get ahold of someone. Once I called the bank it was explained to me that my card was potentially compromised so it was shut off. I was then told that they found out three weeks ago and that I will be receiving a new card in the mail. I asked why they didn't inform me about this since they knew three weeks ago and the response was, "we don't have the manpower to contact people when this happens." So long story short, after about 22 years I am planning on switching banks. Maybe if Kitsap credit union has less members they will be able to correctly take care of the ones they have. They don't have shared branching and their new atm system doesn't accept checks that are valid and have all the info on the check like their old system does. So while its more convenient to use this branch, I have to go out of my way to deposit it. read more

Let me start by saying I have been banking with KCU for over 22 years. They were my first checking account when I was little, and I have been with them ever since. In the past, whenever I had any problems or complaints, they always did their part and fixed issues. They were even kind when money was tight for me. So naturally, when people have cropped up telling me how awful their experiences are, I have always defended KCU and said it wasnt like them. However, yesterday I got to feel the other side of KCU and really see what their company has turned into. I had all of my funds put on hold while out of state for work, and a message saying I needed to call. Apparently, they had a system glitch 3 months ago that caused a deposit of $1200 (through Pop Money) into my Navy Federal account for a car loan. To my knowledge, Pop Money had rejected my attempts to teansfer money, and cancelled my transactions. So, 14 days after my attempted transactions, and after waiting for the 5 days to tick down on my Pop Money cancellation, I came into the branch, withdrew my money, and walked it over to Navy Federal. When I got to Navy Federal, it showed $1200 had already been transferred. When I got home, it showed to deductions from my account for the allotted amount. I was frustrated that all the errors and supposed cancellation was false, but just let it slide. So I got a call, 3 months after an event, and was told I owed them $1200 for their mistake. Apparently, my money never transferred out of KCU, but NFCU recieved it. When I asked why this would happen, the KCU representative said the money wasnt in my account and it transfers within 24 hours. Looking at my account today, I see that it shows money did come out of my account. Additionally, if the money wasnt there, how did I manage to pull an additional $1200 out 7 days after the money left my account the first time? She had no responses, just kept asking if I saw the issue in that I owed them $1200. I was perfectly aware of what she was saying, it was more of "How did this happen, and why are you just now catching it?" I checked my accounts the next day, and now I have unusual activity on my account history that doesnt show up on my bank statement. I will be taking my 22 years of being a dedicated customer and defender of KCU elsewhere after this wretched experience. Their behavior and lack of information/reasons was inexcusable. read more

Not sure what happened to Kitsap Credit Union but they have loss all credibility in my eyes and my business. Paid off the remaining balance on my loan with one big check. A month later I get a bill for the interest even though I paid off the loan amount which is fine. Wrote them a check for a few dollars. Then the next month I get another bill for another interest amount of $0.03. 3 CENTS! Called asking if they are going to bill me next month for $0.01 cent? Customer service rep on the phones say that's how they make money for giving me the loan. So I asked if they really want me to send a check for $0.03? Her response was I can get a money order. So I'm going to go spend $0.79 to buy a money order to pay them $0.03... I know times are tough but really??? So unless I pay them $0.03 I won't get my title on my vehicle... Looks like time for a new bank... Worse Credit Union customer service ever... read more
