Stopped by Kitten early on a Sunday morning for a coffee. The barista was exceptionally pleasant, and answered my questions about which baked good she recommended. I ended up getting a dirty chai and a blueberry scone. The chai was perfectly made, and not too sweet, and the scone was incredibly fresh. Even better when dipped into the chai. This is the proverbial hole in the wall (maybe it's 200 square feet?!), offering some of the best coffee in all of NYC. We lived nearby for almost two years but, stupidly, didn't try the coffee until we were weeks from moving out of town. That said, we made sure to go often in that time, and thoroughly loved the cold brew (and Oatly!) and the great service. The coffee is deep and rich, without that metallic and bitter flavor that seems rampant in many cold brews. To tide us over, we grabbed a 5-pound bag of their Alchemy coffee (whole bean, though they'll grind the beans upon request). We're hoping that it lasts until we're back in town visiting friends. Pro tip: grab a coffee before (or after, or both!) and hit Speedy Romeo a block away, on Classon. read more

Very disorganized and always something goes amiss! Either it's their lids that don't fit the cups or in the summer the heat is unbearable (for a customer it's unpleasant to the point of not wanting to go back since you're a ball of sweat by the time your coffee is ready - but for the poor employees it must be pure misery!). The coffee would either be too watery or too strong, never consistent, they will not open on time or regularly, just complete lack of consistency. There was an Italian fellow last year who kept the place together and even took initiative and put together beautiful little sandwiches, opened on time, and was very pleasant to chat with every day. After he left we went and asked the new person where are the little sandwiches and he had no idea what we were talking about. Place went downhill from there for me and I tried to go a few times after but something was always amiss so I stopped going. I wish the business owner took a little more pride in their business and appreciated their employees. It had a lot of potential to be a successful charming coffee shop but alas, it was squandered. read more

A super tiny coffee shop that knows exactly what they're doing. The guy behind the counter (who I can only assume is the owner) is super nice and makes a mean cup of joe. The aesthetic of the place is also... very Brooklyn chic. Like music on a reel-to-reel player with a vacuum tube amp. That level of Brooklyn. They also serve breakfast pastries. read more

A fabulous addition to the neighborhood. It's a quaint coffee shop, small and definitely intended for a grab-and-go experience on your way to the subway. Until recently, Kitten Coffee solely operated as a coffee roastery on Skillman St, and this is their first coffee shop location! They have a few outlets to charge your phone, a couple of stools, and a small coffee bar for you to rest your drink on. Probably not the best place to hang out on your laptop due to the limited seating. It's around the corner from Dough (go there to get donuts and here to get coffee). And if you want a place to sit and drink your coffee, Greene Acres Community Garden is next door and has chickens, a hammock, and chairs. read more

The Espresso Bar is a little cute space where you can find the best coffee. The hours change, sometimes it is close on busy days, sometimes is open. For sure they have the best quality beans, the flavor is consistent. I love cortados and finally found a coffee place that can make it the way I like it. Way to go. read more

Yes, this place is teeny tiny but it packs a lot of flavor! I'm so glad that this espresso bar is in the neighborhood because it's quick and everything I've tried so far has been delicious. The baristas are always interesting people to chat up and seem to have good recommendations. Only thing lacking is space, but you know, that also gives it its own unique aspect of being a tiny (literally) hole in the wall coffee shop. Helpful hint: try their drinks with their Oatly oat milk! The move here is to go to Pilar and pick up some breakfast empanadas, then come to Kitten Espresso and get your iced coffee (which, interestingly enough, is also sold at Pilar for a whopping $6). read more

Ah, love this place. I bought a bag of Kitten's Alchemy beans from a local café, and it was SO good I had to track down the place itself. Luckily, this shop opened up recently - and just around the corner from me! It's a tiny joint packed with coffee and music! Let me stress how cool their focus on music is. They have shelves full of cassettes, CDs and even reels. In the back, they have a vacuum tube amp, monitors, and yes - a reel-to-reel player to bring that Blondie reel to life. When I came in today, it started raining outside, so the wonderful barista Amy and I hung out listening to music, drinking coffee and talking about the city. Good coffee, good music and good people. Highly recommended, and will definitely be coming back in the future! read more

Best cold brew I've had in the area and there's some steep competition round here, not in terms of quality so much as quantity of places. If I could take off a half star for her smoking right outside the shop I woukd. It was wafting in our faces as we approached the entrance - a bit of a turn off.
