He explains everything thoroughly, demonstrates incredible compassion, and I truly appreciate that he emphasizes finding the right balance--"not overtreating, not undertreating." He combines calm reassurance with proactive expertise, and I trust him and his team implicitly. Every visit feels welcoming and well-managed. Dr. Moffat consistently focuses on the whole animal, considering both Leo's physical and mental health, which I am deeply grateful for. After 25 years of multiples pets and grand pets coming here I felt like I was a traveling newbie and they had never seen me, any of my pets and particularly my dog for the past 10 years. This all relates to my senior dog of 10 years suffering from arthritis. Recently they have become... 1. Unaccommodating of senior pet needs and very policy drive... I simply needed an Rx refill but they wouldn't accommodate without a full examination. Despite notes and details from another vet that I was forced to see when we were out of town and they refused to even talk to me or help me long distance while I was traveling with my dog. 2. Lack of cost explanation up front. When I agreed to the forced exam I was under the impression they were fitting me in (and thought that was nice) until I was informed after all was done this was considered an urgent call and thus emergency pricing. I would have waited and made an appt for the next day if I had known. 3. Extremely poor option description. AFTER I had run home to get my pet because they required an exam, paid the almost $600 in exam fees I was told there was an option to get original RX filled online!!! Even their online store!! This was after being told they don't carry that exact RX med and thus the exam to issue a new medication. . 4. Inflexibility...When I tried to do get the RX filled in person at human pharmacy as they suggested so I could have it in time I was met with no luck (I called 5 local pharmacies) so I was forced to go online and there was an extensive delay due to having to snail mail in RX- they refused to work with online provider and approve the RX over the phone so the RX could be shipped faster. I got more kindness and help from online provider who didn't know me from any other person. They even researched where I had to drive to locally to finally find the RX. Tell me why I should continue to come here after 25 years of trusting them with my pet needs?? read more

Dr. Laura and Amy, the vet-tech who dealt with Luca, were very caring and skilled in dealing with not only Luca, our anxious rescue Lab, but also me with my concerns and questions about his various issues and symptoms surrounding his Kennel Cough. Dr. Laura is always very thorough and informative regarding his care. Dr. Moffat, who has treated previous pets of ours, has also been very informative and compassionate, having come to our home to euthanize them when we needed that personal care provided. He's always gone the extra mile. My only concern regarding Kittery Animal Hospital is that on their receipt for services they do not automatically include detailed information about the reason for the visit, the diagnosis, and the treatment. I generally have to ask for these "soap notes" before and after a visit because they are required by Luca's pet insurance when submitting a claim. It's also helpful to have this written information, itemizing what was discussed with the Vet as part of my dog's medical record. So, it's basically a matter of providing a more inclusive, detailed form at checkout. read more

I've always had great service with KAH and I've been taking my babies there for 8+ years. A few years ago, we had to put our lab down due to a tumor that was causing her to suffer - she went down hill quickly. The office staff was AMAZING. Maddie was not a fan of car rides, so Dr. Moffat came to our house the day we had to put her down. As any animal lover knows, it's the hardest choice to have to make and the going through it is the worst. We are SO THANKFUL to have been able to make the process a little easier with Maddie being in her her home surrounded by family. Dr. Moffat was so compassionate, as was the office staff. A couple of years later, we lost our cat. We received the same compassion and empathy during the entire process. On both occasions, we received sympathy cards signed by the staff. Above and beyond on customer service!! We have two more babies and are in the process of rescuing another. We will continue to bring our pups to KAH for the amazing service and support we receive from them. I am thankful for all they do!! read more

I am surprised at the negative reviews here, we have been bringing our pets to Kittery Animal Hospital since 2008. Both for a vet care for our dogs and cats over the years, and boarding.... we've had nothing but good experiences. Our lab is almost ten years old, she boarded there for three nights until Saturday morning. She always comes home happy. I think if a kennel environment is stressful for the dog or cat, it shows in their behavior when they get home. None of this at our house. KAH has retained the same Vet Techs for years. Always very caring and thorough, I think this shows KAH to be a great place to work. I recommend Kittery Animal Hospital without reservation. read more

My boy, Hidalgo, usually outgoing for a Sheltie becomes timid once realizing he's entering the vet office. This last visit I realized Hidalgo shows a great trust under Dr. Moffat's careful guidance. Awful experience. My dog was boarded here and should have looked at reviews here and on yelp. My dog was picked up with a large abrasion all over his face and nothing was said about it. My friend picked him up because I was not going to be home by 5 and not knowing the dog well herself, she didn't notice the abrasion. I got home two hours after he was dropped off at my house and saw the big abrasion. Obviously that did not happen in the two hours he was left alone, he is left alone when I'm at work all the time. I called to see if they could check it out and they said it would be an office charge and they noticed nothing wrong with him that day. It was scabbed over and there is no way they care about the dogs if they don't even say anything about a huge abrasion on his face at pick up. The facility is gross on the inside and they do not care about the dogs. Not to mention on drop off, I walked my dog to the entrance and the lady bringing him in wasn't paying attention and slammed the door on my dog when trying to bring him inside. read more

I have been bringing my dog here since he was a puppy. I brought him in last week to have his nails trimmed, nothing major. On my way home he came up to the middle console looking through as he usually does, and all this blood came flinging onto my console, as I looked back my middle seat in my Xterra was covered in blood, so I pulled over and looked his front paw outer nail was cut way too short. I called the vet back and I the woman asked if I were in the parking lot still and I said no I'm almost home. She then proceeded to tell me to just put baking soda on it that'll stop the bleeding. I had to go to Napa to pick up a cloth cleaner to clean my seats it was so bad. The worst customer service I've had in a long time. And my debit card was still charged for the nail trim. read more

Please do not take your pets to Kittery Animal Hospital and/or their boarding services. My dog will never be the same after an overight stay in their kennels. He came home dirty and frightened, and did not get over his fear for weeks. It is terribly cold, dark, dirty and inhumane back in the kennel areas (I should have known better), and the animals appear to be terribly stressed. TAKE A TOUR! You can see for yourself. You will not believe that this place has not been shut down. The staff appear to be inexperienced and uncaring, and they appear to hate their jobs...and possibly their employer. Wouldn't hire me even though I am fully qualified for a position strictly because I have tattoos, but had me come in for a job shadow and kept telling me how interested they were in employing me. Oh hi, discrimination. I'm sorry, I thought this was 2014. I don't think dogs and cats care I have tattoos. But it's okay, I can get employment someplace else. Have tattoos? Don't go here. Lost my prescription for my dog's urinary leakage so I called and asked for a new one. I wanted to order online like I always did with my old vet. This vet let me go that with heartworm mess. They said it's (Proin) *almost* a controlled substance because meth dealers use it. Said I could buy a 60-count bottle for $44 from them versus the large bottles I used to buy online. It costs me $100 to get my dog's anal glands emptied. They're insanely high priced and have no problem slandering a 55-year old woman with a 14-year old dog by implying I make meth with urinary incontinencd medicine. I got my records and will never step foot in here again. read more

I have to give them a good review here. We used to regularly bring our cats here, and they were always really nice and willing to work with us on treating them. I brought my cat in for grooming with sedation, as he gets violent around clippers, and they were able to do the whole thing without sedation, saving me hundreds of dollars. read more

Bad business. I attempted to speak to "practice manager" but my call was not returned, so here it goes. 1st - Very Rude receptionist, the name was Barbara P. was scolded and had a finger waved at me while getting shaken down for a $950. Asked if I could pay $800 of a $950 bill today and balance of $150 in 2 days when picking up my 2 dachshunds.. The staff immediately took my dogs back and held them hostage until bill was paid in full. Needless to say, I emptied my account to take care of it on the spot. No trust, (was a 31 year Army Vet) and a Gov employee. 2nd- Expensive. had sticker shock at the bill ( Over $950 for annual checkup and 8 days boarding), but all intension of paying for services rendered. The medical treatment folks were nice and professional, but the bouncer at the door (Barbara P) is rough I tell you. Had me feeling like a criminal thief. 3rd. My dogs were supposed to be boarded together in a "dog run" spacious..etc. One came out with "Crate Nose", strongly believe he spent a lot of time in a crate. I am new to New England, gave this place a try, but strongly suggest going elsewhere. I am not a complaining type, but this is a bad operation in my opinion. Go elsewhere. This review is also about animal adoptions only. Regular staff is friendly and helpful. We had previously used this vet for 10 years prior to moving out of area. We too were very interested in a dog they had advertised on Petfinder and their own website. We called and made an appointment to come see the dog. We drove 4 hours to meet the dog. We met the dog, picked up the adoption application and told the staff we'd call the next day w/further questions and our decision. The next day we emailed the application and called and told them we wanted the dog. We were told we'd have to speak to the adoption coordinator who'd call us when she came in. Adoption Coordinator, Barbara, called us and left us a message. Very rude, demanded to know where we got the information the dog was up for adoption, said they only adopt out to clients. In the meantime I got an email from the practice manager asking me to resend the adoption application. Extremely disappointed..no dog & no apology. Think they need to bone up on their customer service skills and communication skills. Waste of my time and theirs and expense to us. Hope the poor dog gets a home. read more

The boarding services are dirty and unsafe. We brought our 1 year lab mix here for the night since we had to go to a wedding in the area. Our dog does wonderfully at our local dog park every weekend so we payed extra for him to be in group play. When we picked him up, he had long, bleeding scratches all over his belly. We were told that they let an adult unneutered male into the group who was "playing a little rough." Our poor pup, along with others, were the ones who suffered. I think that if you pay extra for group play, the dogs should be monitored and kept safe. We also asked if we could purchase any antibiotic cream or spray from them so that we could clean the scratches, and they said they didn't carry any. Isn't it an animal hospital? Our dog was shaking and panting the entire way home. He and his blanket also smelled like feces which was disturbing since we had just had him washed and groomed the week before . I'm not sure how he ended up smelling so badly after just one night. I would never take my dog back here. read more

This review is about animal adoptions only, I have not visited this practice for veterinary services. I was very interested in a particular dog posted by Kittery Animal Hospital on Petfinder, so I drove up from Massachusetts to meet him. The hospital had several very sweet cats available for adoption, and the employees seemed to take very good care of the animals. The employees were also very nice to me. So, I would recommend visiting the hospital if you are looking to adopt. However, I would strongly recommend that you insist on taking the animal home with you on the day you visit, if you decide to adopt. I fell in love with the dog I met and filled out an adoption application on Sat; I was told that I could bring the dog home by Weds or Thurs. Unfortunately, I was called on Tues and told that they had given the dog to someone else. I just want to prevent anyone else from being as heartbroken as I was. Make sure to ask specific questions about the availability of the animal you are interested in, and if possible, insist on taking the animal home with you at the time of visit. read more
