Small local park nestled in residential area so not too many people at the park other than the locals probably. Lots of dog owners when I went that take dogs to this park. Has a small playground and plenty of open grass. There are a few tables if you'd like to bring some food to eat there or throw a party there. Highlights for me were the stairs down, when you look up it has rainbow colors. Also, the small cement track that kids can ride their bikes or scooters on.

Hidden gem tucked away. Beware of the mosquitos. I was only in the park for 30 minutes and came out with more than 10 bites.

Ask the Community - Kiwanis Park at Grand Ave

Can I have a birthday party for my kid here?

I see families gathered here regularly. There are some picnic tables and playsets. I'm not sure if you need a reservation for that though. There are phone numbers for the city on the signs at the entrance or you could visit cityofmonrovia.com to…

Stopped by the LA Arboretum today to volunteer for the Cactus and Succulent society Inter City…read moreevent that was being held there. Parking seems plentiful but I did notice signs saying "lot full" but yet there were barely any cars there. I parked near the fountain area and walked up. The fountain is so relaxing and the grass past the fountain with peacocks hanging out is just so relaxing I wanted to sit there all day. I learned that if you're an Arboretum member it's free entry which starts at 730 am, but if you're not a member you're allowed in later at 9am. I found the Arboretum on AllTrails app and it's a pretty nice sized property and since they don't pass out maps what's nice using the app i can see what is coming up ahead and what else there is to see. The inter city event was taking place in another area and I ended up having to walk through another lot to get to it, but it was a nice spacious area for the event, i would have liked more signage to direct me but I recognized someone and that's how I knew where to go. The volunteers all seem to have volunteered multiple times in the past and seem to forget that there might be newbies helping so it seemed like everyone assumed I would just know how everything works. Despite this it was a pretty cool event and I saw so many cactuses and succulents that I never dreamed of and are now on my wish list. I believe they hold this event at the Arboretum yearly so keep your eyes out!

Upon arriving, my first thought was that I wished I had made a point of visiting much sooner. I had been missing out. We arrived when it opened, and the place was already buzzing with activity. Although it was busy, it never felt crowded. I found a QR code that brought up a map on my phone, which made it easy to navigate the grounds. We started at the Plumeria Festival, where there were plenty of vendors selling plumeria plants and other garden-related items. There was also live music on the main stage and several food trucks. After visiting the festival, we set out to explore the rest of the Arboretum. We saw plenty of wildlife, including peacocks, squirrels, rabbits and even a coyote. The walking trails are relatively easy, and there are plenty of benches where you can stop, rest and take in the surroundings. It was a great way to spend the better part of a day, and I will definitely be going back.

After an afternoon of reveling with family and in-laws during USA's Independence Day at my oldest niece and nephew-in-law's new (and first) home, we all ended the holiday at the city's annual 4th of July fireworks show at Monrovia Library Park. A 13-acre park (daily park hours from sunrise to 10:00pm) with a bandshell, drinking fountains, outdoor fountain, playground equipment, statues, walking trails, and more, in proximity to Old Town Monrovia. Now that I had a reason to be in this city, I expected to further explore the area. Did we have an explosive time at Monrovia's Library Park!? PURCHASE(S) None to speak of; we just enjoyed the great outdoors and watched the fireworks! THE EVENT Used for several purposes throughout the year, this was their annual 4th of July fireworks show. Here were some notables: ~About 20-minutes of bright colorful exhilarating explosions in the night sky, it was an impressive presentation especially for a small town. ~Because the crowds were already large at the park itself and parking/traffic was horrendous all around the park, we found a perfectly good spot barely a block away to take in the spectacle. ~The sound system was still booming enough to be clearly heard from where we were observing. SERVICE In this particular case, because we were offsite as we admired the festive fireworks, we didn't experience any service directly tied with the event. However, in the parking lot where we were, the business associated with that (I wish I could remember the business) provided folding chairs, which was so kind of them - thank you! PARKING (Varied: N/A this instance): We simply walked a casual 15 minutes from my niece and nephew-in-law's home to a favorable site to view the fireworks. Otherwise, there appeared to be plenty of spots along the main drags of Myrtle Ave., E. Palm Ave., S. Primrose Ave., W. Lima Ave., and all surrounding roads (I didn't notice any lots) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A public space filled with greenery, trees, places to relax and sit, plenty of people-watching opportunities, and nice neighborhood views as you dreamt away. There was plenty of natural lighting since you were outdoors while electric street lights filled in once the sun went down. Generally speaking, outside of special events, there weren't any TVs while the chatter of conversations and the sounds of vehicle traffic (patriotic music played in the background for this event). ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL We were generally appreciative and surprised of the annual 4th of July fireworks show at Monrovia Library Park, and we wouldn't mind returning next year. Additionally, they held music festivals and other local events at this facility, which I would like to attend in the future. I honestly had no idea what to expect onsite, but I'm excited to find out. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS
