It's an enjoyable trail, or more like a neighborhood stroll to get your exercise in. It's not a super charming park, but it's accessible if you're looking to have a quick workout. It is mostly paved walkways and a sandy road, for you to walk through. The trail itself is about 3.3 miles long, but honestly...only the first mile and a quarter is worth the walk. It is very dry or desert-like in the middle. There's not much to see in between that stretch. And your foot and knees will hurt walking on the paved walkways. There's also many cracks and raises along the path, so may be challenging for anyone with mobility or may need wheelchair access. Street parking mostly and as of the time of this post, the sidewalk entrance is closed, so just walk through the grass. read more

An easy 3.3 mile out and back trail in the city of Duarte. The trail is popular to bikers and dog walkers. I noticed all dogs are on leash, which is very good. The trail is separated from the busy street so its safe to walk around and enjoy the park. Lots of shaded walk way. Nice view of the mountains as well. Family friendly. read more

Still love coming to this trail. I usually park at Royal Oaks Park and this trail is connected to it. Dog friendly! They have dog poop bags as well as water fountains for dogs. Flat path and straight 3.5ish miles out and back. It does get crowded, even in the morning but everyone shares the path very well and really no problems on that end. Such a beautiful area. read more

Discovered this trial while looking for a place to do a 2 mile run. I went around 5pm on a Monday and surprisingly there were a good amount of people there. There were a lot of people taking a stroll, walking their dogs and running. The trail isn't as wide as I like it to be so I found myself going to the opposite lane a few times so I can go around people in front of me. The ground also has some cracks so be careful because I did see someone almost tripping on a crack. This trail is mostly flat so overall I did enjoy running here and will likely come back when I'm around the area. There were also plenty of street parking when I was there. read more

If you are looking for a super easy level 1 flat area to walk, ride bike, teach your kids how to ride bike, roller skate/blade, walk the dog this is the absolutely perfect place for such activities during these covid-19 lockdowns! It's located in a residential area with the start of the trail at the corner of Royal Oak Dr/Buena Vista St. There is plenty of street parking on the street. Note some sections are 2 hours max or you can street parking in the residential area. The entire trail is completely flat with a two way bike road but also a dirty path adjacent for those wanting to mountain bike or run on a "trail". The total round trip is 3.10mi. The end of the trail ends at Royal Oaks Park. There are 2 tennis courts and 2 basketball courts at the park with those looking too. Overall a very quiet easy walk to get some air for yourself, significant other, spouse, kids during these times. These are trees along the path but some areas are in the sun during those hot days. read more

This is a great dog friendly trail for walking, running, biking, and even roller blading! Sometimes there are even horses taking a walk on the dirt path right next to you! I never had problems finding parking on Royal Oaks. I've been to this trail for many years and it's nice and flat with some shades. I usually begin at Buena Vista / Royal Oaks and turn around when it hit the tennis courts and the park on the other end. You can have an easy stroll or a cardio run at this 3.15 mile paved trail. There are couple of drinking fountains along the way that has a dog water fountain. Recently I visited again and there's a big sign for mask enforced by fine. I'm not sure how they really enforced this but happy to see 99% of people wore masks. At around mid point of the trail, there are 2 llamas that like to stick their heads out at their backyard. read more

Great trail. Start at one end and it ends at a park or vice versa. There really isn't a parking lot so we parked in the neighborhood. Just read the signs and be respectful of others peoples homes :) The entire trail is about 3.5-ish miles. Very flat and no incline. Quite wide for social distancing. There is a paved area for bicycles and the peds path is dirt. There is also ample shade on the side for rest breaks. Trail is dog friendly. Just watch for bikes. Recommend if you're in the area. This trail is everything! Flat, easy walking trail with lots of trees. There's also a dirt road next to the concrete trail. We started at the beginning of the trail off of Buena Vista & Royal Oaks and ended at Vineyard. It was a 3.3 mile walk. Plenty of parking on the street or by the residential area. Just read the signs to see how long the parking is for (2hr vs 3hr) on the street. Only thing that was bothersome is people not picking up (poop) after their dogs. This is a fine, well-maintained trail that runs from Buena Vista to Royal Oaks Park, about 1.5 miles each way. A paved surface, a dirt trail, and several stretches of grass offers options for walkers, skaters, runners, cyclists, equestrians, and even the occasional pogo-stick rider (probably.) Two water fountains for both people and pets are a nice addition. Oak trees provide stretches of shade, and while there is a general uphill run heading west, it's relatively flat. If you're looking for a little hill... there are two great options: towards the west end, Royal Oaks Dr. splits into two parallel roads. Heading east, double back where upper Royal Oaks rejoins the trail, and head back to Winston Dr. -- a straight uphill road adjacent to Bradbury. This one will definitely get your calves burning. The second option is at the east end: Las Lomas Rd. is another residential street that provides a solid uphill... with the last third increasing in steepness! Enjoy the great view at the top, and don't forget water. This is a great add-on for extra challenge. Parking is available at the park on the east, and in the neighborhood on the west. read more

I hope I'm posting for the right trail on Royal Oaks. Since I can't hike anymore in the mountains due to the fires, this is a good peaceful walk. You can park on spots along the trail just make sure to read the signs some of the spots are for public transportation. I'm planning on hiking the Appalachian trail back east one of my bucket list items. There's a great funny book that inspired me by Bill Bryson called "A Walk in the Woods" about the trail, a great recommend especially if you're into getting outside and detoxing from Social Media. Attention Novices and Re-Beginners: This is a flat trail. And accomplishable at just a little over 3.0 miles in a loop. The path is paved next to a dirt trail for those that what that (including equines). Peaceful. Pretty. This is a pleasant trail with plenty of street parking. I have a senior dog and he enjoyed walking on the paved path and meeting other dogs along the way. Great place for a quick run or leisurely family walk. I usually start at the end by Buena Vista & Royal Oaks. Usually I find street parking. It can be harder to find a spot during peak hours but not impossible. And I've only gone as far as the tennis courts which I think is the Royal Oaks park? It's about 1.5 miles there, so there & back to the car is perfect for a 5k run. I should try running to the dam.. some day. The only thing I don't enjoy about this trail is where I start, it's kind of an incline so it's not the best place to boost your confidence if you're trying for a PR. But I'm a big baby and hate hills, no matter how small! And yes, I can start at other end.. Or even walk past this little bump then start my run. There's a nice human doggie dual water fountain near the beginning though. The doggie poop bag dispensers have always been empty every single time I'm there so always bring your own! People do leave a few turds on the main trail.. Otherwise I love everything else about running here! There's a black top trail, grass to one side, and a dirt path on the other side! Perfect for runners, pups, horsies, cyclists, strollers alike. (I have to admit I like how few cyclists use this trail, sorry not sorry). Every time I'm here there's at least a few other people on the trail but never overcrowded. I actually enjoyed the company tonight since it was my first time running closer to dark and I felt completely safe. There's always families (with strollers or those razor scooters) and other pups there! So if half your family wanted to run while the other half walked along its nice & safe. I love this recreational trail, known to most Duartians (people who live in Duarte...) as the bike trail. I like to walk my dogs on this trail and also ride my bike, as a nice warm up, on this trail too. The trail is paved with long stretches of smooth cement. There are some dog bag dispensers along this trail (but don't rely on that, make sure you bring your own bags because sometimes you can go long stretches before you see another one or if the bags are not refilled) and some trash cans as well. There is only 2 water fountains that I can remember (one for a person and one for a dog to use), which are on both ends of the trail (one near Royal Oaks Park & one near Santa Teresita Hospital). There are some lights on the trail, but just like the water fountain situation, only on both ends of the trail and no lights in the middle portion of the trail. A lot of people usually like to walk the trail (or ride on their bike) in the mornings before work and after work. But it's never been crowded. Overall, great trail to go for a walk (yay cardo!) and clear your mind. And even better if you bring a friend (4 legged or not). read more

I finally realized that this Yelp entry was referring to the Bike Trail (I never knew it had another name). There's a paved trail down the middle and a dirt trail for horses or those who like a softer jogging surface. There's grass along the other side most of the way. The trail runs from Royal Oaks Park to Santa Teresita and passes under the historical Duarte Bridge. According to my brother, the Bike Trail used to house train tracks long before we were born. read more

Reason for visit: A light jog. Visit date: January 16, 2012 First time? Yes. Can you believe it? The Duarte Recreational Trail is great for many activities -- running, biking, roller blading/skating, even horseback riding should you choose. It's 3.2 miles round trip and flat so it's great if you're training for a 5k. There are two lanes (one in each direction), but people don't necessarily 'pass on the left'. There is little to no shade along the path so if it's hot out, be prepared. Dogs are allowed on the trail, and there are plenty of them. If you forget your poop bags, there are some provided along the path. There's a water fountain maybe halfway in, and there's even a fountain for your pup (or small child?) You can begin your trot on other on either side. If on the Buena Vista end, park in residential area. If you begin at Royal Oaks Park, you can park in the lot by the tennis courts or in residential area if the lot is full. There aren't any lights along the trail, so definitely go when it's light out. There isn't much to look at, but if you're into taking pictures along the way, there are lots of trees and random wooden fence remnants to pose by. read more

Initially I couldn't find this place because Apple maps had it South of the highway, but we eventually figured out that it starts on Buena Vista St between Orange and Royal Oak and goes until Royal Oaks Park.
