(Attended 07/04/26 SA @ 8:00pm): We parked ourselves adjacent to Monrovia's main library to marvel at the annual fireworks show! After an afternoon of reveling with family and in-laws during USA's Independence Day at my oldest niece and nephew-in-law's new (and first) home, we all ended the holiday at the city's annual 4th of July fireworks show at Monrovia Library Park. A 13-acre park (daily park hours from sunrise to 10:00pm) with a bandshell, drinking fountains, outdoor fountain, playground equipment, statues, walking trails, and more, in proximity to Old Town Monrovia. Now that I had a reason to be in this city, I expected to further explore the area. Did we have an explosive time at Monrovia's Library Park!? PURCHASE(S) None to speak of; we just enjoyed the great outdoors and watched the fireworks! THE EVENT Used for several purposes throughout the year, this was their annual 4th of July fireworks show. Here were some notables: ~About 20-minutes of bright colorful exhilarating explosions in the night sky, it was an impressive presentation especially for a small town. ~Because the crowds were already large at the park itself and parking/traffic was horrendous all around the park, we found a perfectly good spot barely a block away to take in the spectacle. ~The sound system was still booming enough to be clearly heard from where we were observing. SERVICE In this particular case, because we were offsite as we admired the festive fireworks, we didn't experience any service directly tied with the event. However, in the parking lot where we were, the business associated with that (I wish I could remember the business) provided folding chairs, which was so kind of them - thank you! PARKING (Varied: N/A this instance): We simply walked a casual 15 minutes from my niece and nephew-in-law's home to a favorable site to view the fireworks. Otherwise, there appeared to be plenty of spots along the main drags of Myrtle Ave., E. Palm Ave., S. Primrose Ave., W. Lima Ave., and all surrounding roads (I didn't notice any lots) - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A public space filled with greenery, trees, places to relax and sit, plenty of people-watching opportunities, and nice neighborhood views as you dreamt away. There was plenty of natural lighting since you were outdoors while electric street lights filled in once the sun went down. Generally speaking, outside of special events, there weren't any TVs while the chatter of conversations and the sounds of vehicle traffic (patriotic music played in the background for this event). ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL We were generally appreciative and surprised of the annual 4th of July fireworks show at Monrovia Library Park, and we wouldn't mind returning next year. Additionally, they held music festivals and other local events at this facility, which I would like to attend in the future. I honestly had no idea what to expect onsite, but I'm excited to find out. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). I have been to the Monrovia Library Park a couple times. It's a really big park with old statues and benches. Lots of grass area for sitting or laying down on blankets. During the holidays, this park is decorated in correpondence to the celebration. Pretty cool! Quite peaceful and serene, too! Love the nostalgia atmosphere that it brings! The neat part of this park is that it is situated in front of the Monrovia Library. Its name is so fitting in that case. On Friday nights, they have their Monrovia Street Fair & Market at this park. Please note streets will be blocked and street parking may be limited. I would recommend parking closer to Foothill Blvd or in the Foothills Plaza. A nice small-to-medium sized park that is located along the neighborhood. The library is at the center of the park and the front involves a fountain, a large courtyard of grass and unique decor like the Mark Twain statue or a Santa sleigh. The back has more concrete walkways and a large apparatus playground for kids to play on. Plenty of trees around the area that can offer shade and lots of spots to be able to sit down at. Parking seems to be only on the street around the park, but you have to be aware as some signs limit when to park. Hours go from sunrise to 10PM. It is a nice park to take a nice walk mainly with pets and kids. I did see one homeless individual at one of the more obscure areas of the park but in general the park seems clean, well-maintained, and up to date with the community with an organized event coming up for Valentine's Day. I don't see any sports/recreational activities that can be done here so main activities are those organized events and walking. read more

This is one of the largest parks in Monrovia and is the gateway to Old Town. It's beautifully maintained with lots of giant old oak trees and sweeping views of the San Gabriel Mountains. At the heart of the park is a lovely fountain and the anchor is the public library. One thing I really love is how the city always seem to go all out decorating this park so nicely for all the holidays!! For Memorial and Veteran's Day they even put out tons of flags. They always have parades and festivities and this park is the main hub. They have many fairs and fun events here throughout the year as well - with some even having large rides like Ferris wheels! It becomes a main voting location during election seasons. There's a water fountain and a really nice statue of Mark Twain. The park really gives the town an old-school, small-town feel even though it's a busy area close to Pasadena and not far from LA itself. The park is surrounded by tons of fantastic, local restaurants and shops. It's easily accessible to all with ramps and well maintained sidewalks and plenty of street parking all around, as well as numerous public lots - all free but timed during certain hours so be sure to check the signs. read more

I love this park. I come here often because it's close to home and just stunning. Plenty of trees for shade and available sunny areas if you like that too. I love getting a snack from old town and bringing it here to sit and people watch. Or bringing a book to read. The view of the buildings and the mountains is just beautiful. Super cute date spot if you wanna take it old school and plan a picnic. Very clean playground for the little ones. This park holds summer concerts and other various events for holidays throughout the year. I feel so lucky to be able to enjoy this park any time I want. read more

Solid park to burn off energy! There are lots of different fun things to climb: bars, rope wall, "rock climbing" ramp, etc. I like that there's a little zip line feature on the structure for big kids and even a tire swing. My kids and I have been coming to this park for almost 10 years and it's still in great shape. This is a wonderful park for babies and toddlers all the way to preteen aged kids. Next to the park is a big hilly green lawn, perfect for running around with kids or dogs. There's a dog water fountain available as well by the Primrose Ave entrance, which is so thoughtful for pet owners! Plenty of free street parking available and free parking lot nearby. Weekdays have specific hours and time limits posted on white and green signs. No public park bathroom available but a library is just next door. read more

Fantastic location for a library and a park and playground. All walking distance to the Main Street area in Monrovia. Playground is clean and toddler friendly. Later in the day/early evening you may have some middle/school high school kids but otherwise it's great for the little ones! The library is beautiful. Perfect for kids. Lots of books, well organized with some toys mixed in. They have a great calendar of events and they are so so very lucky to have Ms. Annette! She is incredible with the kids. Very well organized, engaging, and truly inspiring with the little ones. We hope to attend more programs in the near future! But I can say, we have been to may story time events at libraries nearby, and this one is by far the best one! You don't want to miss a session with her. :) read more

A quintessential small town park with mountain view. Library Park is a beautiful huge park with plenty of amenities include tables, free parking, open grassy area and outdoor drinking fountains and playground equipment. Monrovia Library Park is a picturesque, urban park sandwiching the Monrovia Public Library in the middle. The park is meticulously maintained with many flowers in bloom on its manicured trail on a Sunday afternoon. The park features a decent number of attractions such as a large playground, an ENORMOUS tree that unfortunately has a "no climbing" sign, a fountain, and a statue bench of Mark Twain. The park is situated conveniently next to the charming Old Town Monrovia shopping district where Coldstone Creamery (ice cream), candy, and dining is a quick walk away. Don't let the 3 star rating fool you. This park is actually very popular for its size and could easily vie for most densely populated park in a 5 mile radius. The park could be part of an enjoyable afternoon combo'ed with Old Town Monrovia. Amenities: Large playground, band shell, drinking fountains Parking: I did not notice a proper lot. Parking is on the streets flanking the library. There are parallel spaces and slant spaces. See affixed photo. There were few open spots on a Saturday afternoon. This is one of the better parks out there. I usually bring my kiddo later in the morning and it's not as busy. It's well kept and I believe it's been recently renovated. The astro turf like surface provides a nice cushion for falls and there's plenty of swings to around. Plus it's only couple minute drive from my house so we come almost everyday. read more

This is a mini park behind the Monrovia Library. It's clean enough for kids to run around,soft protective playground floors and there's a grassy area for a little picnic. Safe parking spaces. I appreciate these little free things. read more

This park is located in Old Town Monrovia, across the street from Citi Bank. What is most notable about this place is the large fountain in front of the library. A great focal point and also a wonderful backdrop for photos. My husband, 2 of our dogs and I actually did a photo shoot in Old Town Monrovia. As we walked around with our talented photographer, we ended up taking some photos in front of this fountain. My late Cocker Spaniel especially loved this fountain. He jumped up on the fountain and ran around (while dragging my husband, lol) and placed his mouth around the fountain (which acted like a water pike. I think he just liked the feeling of that pressure in his mouth. He was rather a particular dog, but memorable). Behind the library is a playground with slides, monkey bars, ladders, etc. Parking is available around the library (front, back, sides). During 4th of July, a large fireworks show takes place here (come early, as people camp out early in front of the library to watch the fire in the sky). Plenty of grassy areas in front and behind the park (perfect for pets). Overall, a nice little park and a great unexpected photo shoot location in case you are looking for a local spot for your next engagement or family photo shoot. read more

Such a peaceful place to sit and rest by the fountain while enjoying old town Monrovia! Great small town America feel. Very suitable for people watching : ) On Saturday afternoons, this guy Tom brings out stuff to blow gigantic bubbles. Both kids and adults can try it out, and the fun is guaranteed! Came for the free concert in the park. Parking wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The venue is behind the library. They have some park benches if get there early enough you won't have to bring a blanket or chairs. The trees provide some shade. There is some shade for venue. Bring the your own food if you don't want junk food. The only thing available is nachos, candy, chips sold by Monrovia high school. They do alittle advertising of the sponsors and the concert doesn't start on time if you're running late. Tonight band didn't take a break and plan from 7:30-9:00. read more

Unbelievable how bad the homeless problem has gotten just over the past 5 years. I have watched it grow from 3-5 to now about 15-20 people (more if you include the ones in RVs and cars) in and out through out the week. I have been calling MPD about someone who has now taken up residence directly across the street from my house only to be told it is private property! Glad we will be moving soon MPD and city officials hide behind any excuse they can drum up! LOVE that a watch commander told me "it's going to get worse" yeah that is exactly what they told me. read more

Excellent gem hidden right behind the brand new Monrovia Library. There are several jungle gyms/swing sets for kids of all ages. The playground floor is made of that soft rubbery material which is great to run on and easy to fall on. There are many benches for the parents to sit on and it's a wonderful 30-minute stop when you're walking through Old Town Monrovia with your family. Don't miss it! read more

This is by far the worst library that I have ever been to. Normally going to the library is a nice, quiet and relaxing experience. This place needs some serious help. Nobody wants to be confronted by drug addicts asking for money when they are trying to read. The computers are overrun by obnoxious, loud and grotesque individuals and it is impossible to get any work done. People are all around the library sleeping and snoring in the chairs and literally the place stinks. The park outside feels dangerous to even walk in. read more

One of my favorite libraries..but I'm biased as I really do love libraries...the interior is very clean and well kept. Everyone is very helpful and eager to assist. The kid's area is nice and they have a good collection of books. I haven't spent enough time here to comment on the adult side but I can see myself coming here to study. My only gripes are: 1. extremely limited hours (especially for working & student moms like me) 2. transients that frequent the immediate surroundings. read more

I feel bad about giving Library Park only 2 stars but this ranking is due to the homeless population that has taken over and the city doing nothing about it. I am a long time resident of Monrovia who voted for the Library Park renovation and had my property taxes increased to make it possible. Now I don't like to go there because of this group of people who obviously have substance abuse problems and don't want to change their lives. There was an article in the Star News that said the homeless population in the park are "resistant" to help that is available to them and that Monrovia has a much smaller homeless population than Pasadena so the citizens Monrovia shouldn't complain. It's really too bad that such a nice park in a nice city is being ruined by this unfortunate situation. Be cautious if you decide to go there. read more

I love this park and the whole Old Town part of Monrovia. It feels like homey, small town USA which is not easy to find in LA County. Right in the middle is a huge library, which I haven't been to because I go to the library close to my home. Once in awhile, if I'm killing time before an appointment or something, I'll just park and walk around and enjoy the prettiness of the area. I'm glad we have public spaces like this that everyone can enjoy! read more

There's lots of nice grassy areas and the fountain is beautiful. They have a Mark Twain statue sitting on a bench. There's lots of dog bowls park as well. If you're into Pokemon Go this is a great stop to play. The park is connected to library and is in the area of Old Town Monrovia. read more

An unfortunate problem with transients inside and outside the library. This library/Park was one of the biggest reasons my fiancé and I moved to old town. I usually study long hours at this location but lately the transient problem seems to be getting worse. I no longer feel safe inside or outside the library. Parents/ guardians please beware and take care of your children. This place is not safe. For all the regulars please do not let your guard down and also beware at all times!!! The city should do something quick before residents/business take their revenue elsewhere. read more

The authorities really need to do something about the homeless in this park. NOT OK! I used to love spending time on Myrtle and lately it's been a dump. Monrovia was a family oriented town, enough of the politics correctness. Clean it up or lower the prices. read more

Why is there no restrooms?! Make sure you check the times the library is open and come at that time, especially if you have little ones that need to go. I guess they figure the only time kids in a park need to go is when the library is open. Why is there a park with a playground but no restrooms? read more

Love to come here and push my niece on the swings. Also love that my favorite medical spa (better health) is right across the street. One thing about the park though... There sure are a lot of homeless people lately. read more
