There were several different materials involved, and the end result was impressive - almost like a new house! We asked klappenberger to paint my condo and re do some caulking/grout in my bathroom. Pros: they did a good job with the paint, it looked good. Cons: they didn't do a good job with protecting my stuff from the paint, and I had to clean cabinets, appliances, etc to remove paint afterwards. Also, they didn't do the second part of the job at all the first time around, the bathroom wasn't touched, but they still charged me for that. I called them back to have them come do it which they did, but they did it poorly. So poorly that I had a different person look at it and eventually re do it entirely. read more

Hired to paint the trim and power wash the house, and they did a fantastic job. HOWEVER, the power-wash "exposed" some discoloration on the house paint in several spots (looks pretty bad) and we were told they could do a color match and come out and touch up the paint (additional service and more cost - which is ok). Now I haven't been able to get ahold of John for since June (VA office) and the office phone is disconnected. Called and emailed the owner and never got a response back either. So great job when they show up, but don't expect them to come back if they need to finish the job. Truly disappointing, because now I have to find someone else to finish their work. read more

I hired this company to remove wallpaper in our kitchen. They did remove the wallpaper, HOWEVER, the worker was late both days with no call. He left remnants of wallpaper and glue all over the wall, along with small-medium sized nicks in the wall that I had to spackle. After being done, remnants of wallpaper were shoved behind the fridge and the tops of our white kitchen cabinets were filthy. They have no respect for your time or property. After all of that, they charged OVER DOUBLE what they estimated it would cost. With the price of this, I was really hoping my walls would be paint ready and I would not have to do any extra work, which was entirely not the case. If you're looking for a professional business for your house needs, do not hire this company. read more

I hired Klappenberger and Sons and they started on May 20th. They started on time, however, the work that was quoted and verbally discussed was not the work performed. In addition, they raised the price of the job by $5,000.00. I find it interesting that they quoted $9,000 and change to paint an entire house consiting of 1992 square feet and in the quote included the cielings. That is over 1992 square feet of painting. I did add the garage, which is a one car garage, and a powder room and some rot on the outside of a door. The three areas that I added ended costing an additional $5,000. This does not add up as the whole house was $9,000 and change and over 1992 square feet. Just estimating the garage to be maybe 250 sq. feet and the powder is very small. The extra work ended up over half of the bill to paint. Not to mention, that they told me there were two coats paint on the garage. I had to hire another painter to finish the garage, and he confirmed that the garage only had one coat of primer. Also, the contract stated that they would replace any damaged trim. I pointed out all the spots that were damaged and rotted, but they just painted over the damage and did not replace the damage. I had to call the owner to get them to replace the areas that were already discussed to be replaced when they came out to do the estimate. The owner did agree to fix the areas that should have been replaced. In the end, I did hire a different company to finish painting the garage. In addition, the new hire did such a great job on the garage, I hired to paint the exterior trim. I am still waiting for an itemized bill. I later found out that the owner of Klappenberger and Sons did sell the company. The reason I hired them is because my husband and I went to school with the owners. This is no longer a local company in Severna Park, Maryland. I would not recommend hiring this company due to shoddy work, being straight out lied to about the work performed, and dishonest pricing. We used this company to get some painting done in our condo. While the painting was well done, the painter broke a closet shelf, charged us for the time he tried to fix it, then did a shoddy job of fixing it. He left the shelf off the hooks so it couldn't handle any weight and tried to cover a drywall hole he created, but didn't sand it down. When I reached out to Alex, one of the managers about it, he denied that was the right closet and then demanded we pay the invoice immediately. He offered to send the same guy to come out and fix it for a charge! We will never be using this company again and I would highly recommend to stay away! read more

Beware, this company does not care about their customer's time. I had an estimate scheduled for 7:30am. I had already rearranged my work schedule to come in late because of this appointment, and they did not show up. After 10 minutes of waiting, I called the office and the person who answered did not have any information. I waited 10 more minutes, still no one was there, so I left. On my way to work, the painter called asking where I was. He showed up half an hour late to the appointment and expected me to still be there waiting for him. If a company can't even show up to an estimate on time, why would anyone think they would show up to work on time once they have your money? If you value your time, look elsewhere. read more

For years, I resisted my wife's suggestion to repaint the dark, brick front of our house. I finally relented and, boy, am I glad I did. Beware of tacked on charges at the end of your project. Klappenberger and Son gave me a fair estimate on a multi room interior paint job with extensive drywall repair. However, they only sent one person who could spackle. On what he completed, he did a good job, but he ran over his "estimated" time and did not finish all the spackling to my satisfaction. Then, without notifying me in advance that he had put in more hours than what they originally estimated, Klappenberger sent me a bill for "extra charges". They did a good painting job overall but do NOT hire for any handyman services. We are still finding issues wrong with the "work" they did. There are crooked light fixtures, tiles that were not properly placed, and in general just sloppy work. We called multiple times to have have the work corrected, but at some point you just give up and accept your losses. read more

Alex, Raul, Hugo and Roberto arrived on time at 8 am both days. They immediately did all the prep work and started painting. The paint that they used was Eco-friendly and didn't have any paint smell. The was important to me since I have three cats and I also can't stand the smell of paint. Day 1: They painted both bathrooms, both bedrooms and the kitchen. They removed everything that was hanging on the wall. I live in a condo and they painted all the walls, doors, ceilings, base boards and window sills in the kitchen, living room, dining room, hallway, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Since I work from home and my office is in the living room, I asked them to do that room last. On day two, I they painted the hall way, living room and dining room. They moved my chair to my bedroom and sat it by the window so that I could spend the day reading. I would most definitely recommend this business. read more

Robert came out to my Baltimore home to do my estimate and was more thorough than anyone else I met with. I could tell right off the bat he had experience and I appreciated that he took the time to talk through all aspects of the job. Robert was in frequent contact over the next few days as we selected paint colors and scheduled painting. After each day of work he came by my home to check on the progress to make sure I was happy. We needed the ceiling in our nursery replaced due to an air conditioner leak, and the A/C company sent Klappenburger out to do the work. Dale (the estimator) made sure to include all necessary work in the estimate so there was nothing missed. David (the drywall/painter) did a very good job, both with the drywall replacement and painting the room. The reason for 4 stars is that I believe that the first day's work, replacing the ceiling drywall, should have been staffed with two people. I'm very impressed that David did that work himself. Absolutely first rate work on an extensive job -- repainted the exterior of our house (including replacing rotted work), repainted the entire interior, and power washed and repaired our deck. Their price was meaningfully less than 2 other bids we received, and the work was quickly and beautifully done.
