We have a Volkswagen Jetta TDI diesel We could not get the diesel to pass inspection. After multiple trips to the service station and thousands of miles driving the car, it would not turn over. We called Klaus garage and spoke to Dave the owner. He told us to bring the car in and they would take a look. Dave and his team took the car in and evaluated it. I have had some work done on other vehicles in the pass and really have had no issue , but recently I had my pick up truck worked on and NYS inspection they explained what was wrong with it and I can see that they were somewhat right . I get quoted a really high dollar amount that I just could do . so I cancel certain things and when I get the bill that charged a fee for locating parts . plus I didn't have a check engine light on then I get the call hey the check engine light is on . So I paid them I cleared the code ran the drive cycle and passed inspection . 3500 plus bill . I felt like I had a friend there , not anymore I fell stabbed in the back . They are way overpriced. Charged me close to $400 to put pins back in that popped out when my car went over a curb 3 weeks prior...Then they claimed my tire was flat when they arrived that morning....odd, it wasn't flat when I dropped it off the night before. They offered to give me a "deal" if I paid in cash but the price went up instead of down! When I questioned it, I was told he didn't need to explain how he runs his business to me...He also said I needed new brakes and wanted over $500 for that! I took my car someplace else... Wouldn't you know, the old tire and rim were not in my trunk! They "forgot" to give it back!! They refused to deliver it so I had to leave the new shop, drive all the way back to Klaus and retrieve it, then back to the new shop again to start all over.....what a nightmare! read more

Skip the dealer. The dealer told me that I need control arms for $1200.00. Klaus inspected the control arms and performed a complete undercarriage inspection. He said you do not need any replacement. The control arms will last about 3 more years. The dealer told me that the bushings are torn which they are not. Honest car garage is so hard to get. I will use Klaus for all my cars. read more

The stars are for seeing me and my car in one day. I had a frozen glow plug in my 2011 Jetta. The dealer wanted 15 hours of labor at 120.00 each hour, do the math. The dealer was Hudson valley VW on RT 9. That cost was before parts. I was not paying that much for a part the car is not requiring to run, but a light was on and it needed inspection. Chris at Klaus looked over the car and gave me the same price with removing the head, with labor etc. He stated he could not remove the glow plug and it was frozen in the car. I took the car over to Metric Motors off I 84 and it was done for 239.00 including parts. I feel the problem today is that all these garages know is how to change out parts, not the old school way of fixing cars. read more

I work on my own cars in general. I was running low on time and brought the car to him. He switched some cables around and told me that I put them wrong. The car started to become difficult to start when cold. Also the check engine problem came back as soon as I moved out of the lot (they could have figured with a quick testdrive so I don't have to waste a day without my car). That night, I made few hours of research and figured that my original cable connections was correct. So I ended up spending one hour of labor for nothing. They offered me to put the cables back but I had already done that so my car can start without problems. They asked me to leave it another day but I am worried they may charge more for nothing as they seem to charge by the hour rather than the project that is finished. The other think I don't like about the place is that you always have to leave your car there. You cannot really wait for the repair. Also he was reluctant to give me a waiver for NYS inspection even though I legally should have the right when I spend more than $450 on an emission-related repair/parts. Other than that I believe he tries to be honest; though I didn't have too much experience with the shop to be certain. He also is an old guy with experience. read more

I never write reviews but DAVE at Klausman garage was a true gift that I am compelled to write a positive review. I was traveling through New York on my way home to PA. My right rear wheel was losing air in my BMW. Took an exit and there was Klaus Garage ( originally recommended by a man in a parking lot at the convenience store across from Klaus.) It was near closing but he immediately put the car up on a lift, accurately said the damage was a cracked rim and a gash in the tire. He was kind, a consumable profession and I immediately had a sense of well being. He efficiently directed me to a rental car place and a hotel which itself was perfect ( Le Chambord). He followed through the next morning after finding the needed parts. I didn't follow through with him doing the work because I needed a loaner car and there was a close by BMW dealership. And incidentally - DAVE quoted me a price $300 less than the BMW place where I had the repairs done. He went out of his way in a big way- and here is the thing- he didn't even have to but did anyway. The staff at Klaus are knowledgeable regarding foreign cars and do a very thorough job which they break down for you by item and price. As far as I can tell from research their prices are reasonable and they did not strike us as rip off artists they were clear and honest about all charges. They were kind and patient and even gave us a ride home when we dropped it off and picked us up when the car was ready. Klaus is a good mechanic, but he is human and makes mistakes. The problem is when he makes mistakes he charges the customer full price while he works through his mistakes. He is very money hungry. If you have an older car he may be a shop of choice, f you have a newer car I use the dealer, I get factory parts and factory trained techs for the same price. Dealers are very price competitive these days, times have changed. I was a loyal customer for years. And BTW, the fact that he charges full price as he works through his mistakes, has made me go to another shop. read more
