I have an old Pontiac Vibe. It's been grumbling at lights forever. Not loud, just that low animal noise, like it's sick of the whole business. They are true professionals who want to make sure your car is running as good as it can be. They even saved me a ton of money once when they recognized my transmission on my Subaru was messed up and realized I was like 500 miles under the warranty. I came here a couple of months ago due to the good reviews, and Manny fixed my muffler for a reasonable price. Today I had to get my license plate lightbulbs replaced, and despite being very busy, he took me immediately and replaced the bulbs for no charge! They've changed our summer/winter tires a few times and EACH TIME they didn't tighten the lug nuts enough and within a week they were loose and we've had to tighten them on a road trip, as the wheel was about to fall off! If they can't do something this simple correctly, I wouldn't trust them to work on something more complicated. Last week we had them replace the brakes on our Prius and AGAIN, by 1 week the lug nuts were completely loose & turnable by hand. PLUS the brake rotors were rubbing so badly that my wife had to be towed home as she feared for her life while driving on the highway. Needless to say, we will not be going back to Verplanck, despite how convenient it is to our house. read more

I've gone to Verplanck a few times now and they're always incredibly helpful and well priced. Once I had an engine noise that only showed up sometimes and they told me to stop in the next moment it happens and they'll make sure they take a look. When the noise started up again I was able to stop in quickly and have someone join me to drive and listen in. He explained everything to me about the process of diagnosing the sound as we drive. I have never seen such incompetence! The obese man with glasses who runs the show screamed in my face, inferred that I leave the premises, after I questioned his lack of diagnostic ability. AAA had to tow my car because this mechanic could not understand a new starter was needed. Ironically the tow truck driver told me that he had many problems with Verplank Auto, waited 3 weeks for incomplete service because he forgot to order a part. And a businesswoman on Main St. had a similar experience. Any man who yells in a woman's face should have their business shut down. This is abuse! read more

Took our car in to get what we thought was the power steering pump replaced. Expected it to be a few hundred dollars to get it fixed! But wow! We went to pick if up this evening and not only was it 1/10th of what we expected, but it wasn't the pump at all....it was just a loose drive belt! They could have charged us anything they wanted and we wouldn't have known any better! So nice to find an HONEST, and FAIR mechanic who doesn't take advantage of people! The head mechanic/owner went over everything with my husband. No bs straight to the point, even showed him the issue. He wasn't trying to sell extra Or try to say there were other issues. There are plenty of other places in the area, but when my Elantra was in need of some love, everyone I asked said head over to Verplank. Sure, there aren't a lot of online reviews; know why? Because this town is still the kind of place where everyone knows everyone else, including business owners. We know who does a good job, who stands by their work, who's trustworthy and whom to avoid. Verplank Auto has the best reputation in town for auto repair, and after just one visit, I knew why. Manny and his crew are welcoming, sincere, trustworthy and hardworking. You know that feeling when you take your car in some place for an oil change and they come back telling you that you've got hundreds of $$$ worth of repair that needs to be done NOW? You will never, ever, EVER get that here. They take you into the shop and show you exactly what needs to be done, and take the time to explain why, in laymen's terms, with patience and good humor. You can watch them work, or sit in the office and hang out with all the neighbors coming and going. The work gets done fast, and they communicate with you about the process as it goes along. They'll talk options with you, call around to get a good price on a part, and juggle jobs to squeeze in the desperate cases. I've been to Verplank Auto four or five times now for various ailments - new tires, oil change, engine light on, ran afoul of wildlife - and I have never felt harried or just another job, or like they're taken advantage of someone less familiar with cars. I trust Manny and his guys. He looks you in the eye, uses your name, and shakes your hand - everything we all want but are afraid is merely deception. In a few months, I'm moving north to New Paltz, NY. When my car gets into any serious trouble, I'm driving all the way down to Verplank Auto. As for the poor review, a word of advice. These guys are by-the-book. Don't come by without your car and expect to get any price other than what's quoted online. What did you expect?
