I paid $1,300 to KMD Tuning to have my exhaust installed, and the work was done very poorly. Parts were missing from the installation, and the overall job was not worth the money I spent. I ended up taking my car to another shop, and the difference was night and day. They walked me through everything in detail, pointed out the missing parts, and even contacted the exhaust brand directly to help me get the correct pieces replaced. That's how I found out just how incomplete and sloppy the install from KMD Tuning really was. For the price I paid, I expected professionalism and a proper install. Instead, I had to pay another shop to make things right. Based on my experience, I do not recommend KMD Tuning. (Reply: you guys should have told me you don't usually work on those exhuast before you started the car. Instead you told me while you were working on it so how am I going to pick up a kinda put on exhaust it doesn't make any sense.that still does not explain why you guys didn't tell me there were missing parts and still charged me 1.3k for everything. read more

I brought my Porsche 911 Carrera S (991 series) here on two occasions. My first visit was to check a fault code. The owner Dan serviced my car promptly and spent a great deal of time explaining the possible issue with me afterward. He even gave me a copy of the faults! Hands down the best service I have ever received. On the second visit I had a service interval done and an exhaust modification installed. Again, stellar service, great explanations and the work done was impeccable. I am having a high flow air filter installed once the part comes in. Only had one good sales person/Manager there and he left. The owner Dan is a decent parts changer at Best!!! They're prices are ridiculous. Actually they wouldn't be such high prices If the mechanic/ owner Dan knew what he was doing and didn't charge you for his screwups. In his eyes the customers always wrong even if you are fully aware of your car's vitals he will tell you you're wrong and that the car is running perfect until it blows up and then he blames you anyway even if you warned him that it wasn't running properly. He never takes the customers side against the big companies. He talks shit about any customer who's unsatisfied with their work. I have spent close to $40,000 in that place on my 2019 Audi RS5 sportback. Through all of Dan's BS I still remained a loyal customer for almost 2 years and at the end of the day I had to go to another mechanic to rebuild my engine and pretty much do everything all over again because anything he did came out wrong. He couldn't even properly install a set of ABT lowering springs. I can't say he installed anything for me properly the first time. Oh yeah the oil changes were good. But if you ask him or tell him there's something wrong with my car he will deny anything being wrong. He will tell you that you know nothing about cars and he knows better. He has an excuse for everything. No one knows better than him but yet he couldn't figure out a simple boost leak on my car he blamed the valve company instead. Let's say for the sake of argument that it was the valve's fault. If he was a good mechanic he would have figured it out but instead he drove my car until the turbos blew. After driving it for 900 mi he said oh wow it's a bad diverter valve that's what caused the turbos to blow a good mechanic would have figured that out before the turbos blew. And he made me pay for the turbos while the car was still in his hands. When he finally handed me my car after 7 months just to swap out turbos it was stuttering and misfiring he just kept telling me to clear the code. Well that happened to be a real problem the misfire ended up blowing my turbos up again and blowing my engine eventually. He had my car set up to run on water methanol injection at all times. Now after being tuned by a real car tuner the car runs faster, safer and doesn't need water methanol injection at all times just 93 octane but if you ask Dan that can't be possible. Only because he's clueless to tuning cars properly. Kinda sad that I actually spent less money rebuilding my whole engine at another shop than I did swapping out turbos with KMD. The blown engine being KMDs fault. Dan is a rude egotistical know it all but actually knows nothing about tuning a car. The only thing he knows how to do is download tunes and he considers himself a tuner he knows nothing about tuning. The guy is a clown and a crook Stay away from this place!!! read more

1 - I didn't live in Montclair when you worked on my car, also, witch hunt much? 2 - it was an AWE stabilization bar, a branded piece of steel. The one you put on my car was blank. After I sold it as an awe piece the buyer contacted me to tell me he noticed no engraved logo, called AWE about it, the owner of AWE stated they have never made a stabilization bar without an engraving and was aware of these knocks offs 3 - I was a customer 12-14 years ago so I won't be in your records or recorded convos. Danny literally pissed me of so much I decided to make sure people knew about the crap he has pulled on customers, even a decade later 4 - post your insurance policy that states the minimum requirement of age, i was at your shop plenty of times when it was by the sock factory (where my friend worked at the time) and you employed plenty of sub 23 year olds who constantly took cars out for joy rides I have no reason to lie, this was my experience with KMD read more

Not impressed with how they provided service. When discussing what needed to be done on vehicle the mechanic would say well it'll take an hour to do this and that's cost this. The particular job he was referencing would only take about 10 mins and I know because I've had done before so I felt like I was being mislead. They over estimate the cost of the work. Not happy, a couple days later my car started to misfire and when I check there was a piece that was not reconnected by the mechanic. Not cool! read more

Went to KMD on a refer from a friend who spoke Highly of them. Got my Porsche turbo back from them after the car was smoking and blowing out oil. They were able to get the car working without a total rebuilt engine overhaul as predicted by Porsche dealer. Head mechanic told me that it's common for dealer to want to over diagnose this issue as the required repair is to replace the turbo. Problem solved!! KMD Tuning is a terrific shop. I used them a couple of years ago to upgrade an Audi RS5 with an ABT tune and they did a fantastic job. They just finished replacing the springs (H&R) and upgrading the ECU (Weistec) on an Audi SQ5 and again they did a great job - very clean shop and reasonable pricing for OEM (or better) quality work. read more

I discovered KMD several years back when I needed some major repairs that were very expensive at the Audi dealer. They cut the costs significantly while maintaining the same standard of care you would expect from the dealer. Now I can't imagine anyone else working on my cars, even though I have to drive from Union County. They treat me like family and they care for my vehicle like it was one of theirs. Mara is a great office manager and Danny is a great project manager. They never push repairs that are not wanted or needed! It is obvious that they have an awesome sense of pride and professionalism which seems hard to find these days. My 2003 A4 1.8T Quattro has been maintained perfectly! Also KMD was able to recommend a few upgrades that were affordable and very effective (computer chip, suspension, exhaust). It actually performs much better than when it was new. Really! They have also maintained my 07 VW Rabbit which is there now for upgraded suspension. At one point they were even servicing my 1990 Toyota Celica before I sold it. They do specialize in German vehicles, many of which are obviously very expensive to purchase, but they will treat you with the same respect no matter what you are driving. You can trust them to maintain your everyday vehicle, or they can get you ready for the race track. I love KMD Tuning! read more

I just picked up my car from an aftermarket clutch install, and would like to say that KMD's service and workmanship is top notch. Not only that, but they are a vendor for some of the highest quality aftermarket parts in the euro scene. I dropped my car off last night using their drop box service, received a call in the morning updating me on the process, and by 2:30 my car was finished and ready to go. I usually don't let anyone else touch my car, I do all of my own work and detailing, so it's not easy to leave my car with just anyone. My dad and I have been coming to KMD for about 13 years now, they have worked on a lot of our cars spanning from regular maintenance on GTI's or A4's, to a stage 3 Ko4 build on a B5 S4. This is one of the only shops I trust with my hard earned investment! I actually was informed that Danny, the owner, was working on my car himself which really put me at ease since he's been working on my dad's cars half my life. An added bonus is they're now only a mile up the road from me. The office manager Mara is fantastic to deal with, and keeps things running smooth at all times. Chris handled my whole interaction as far as clutch options and what it entailed, and made the appropriate suggestions in terms of the upgrade. He took care of everything smoothly, and I couldn't be any more satisfied with the service I received from him. I didn't have any questions for him, because he thoroughly went over what I needed to know about breaking in my clutch. I received one of their flyers and decided to bring my 2006 Porsche C4s for service after talking to a gentleman named Kerry. My brakes were squeaking terribly and my tire pressure monitors were also not functioning. Left off car for eval and got a call that I would need rotors and pads for the front. Said they would muse Porsche parts for the brakes and Tire monitors . Got car back after a week and drove away after spending 2k. I am not a car afficiando so I called back after a week or so and toldmthem the brakes were still squeaking. drove the car for 1500 miles and condition did not improve. I Finally brought the car to a Porsche dealer in Englewood and they informed me that the parts for the brakes and Tire monitors were not what they told me. Another 1700 hundred has the car running perfectly . Brought it to the attention of Martha and Danny ( owners) the K of KMD became a pest control technician I ws told . Bottom line......Sorry we can't do anything for you! I realize time had passed Because I don't use the car that often 1500 miles in 22 months, mostly because of the squeaking that I was told would go way! As a good gesture I returned the defective parts and said goodbye. Didn't even offer me a windshield wiper (LOL) .He probably returned the parts for credit and made out again! Be Careful read more

This place is TERRIBLE. Took my GTI here because of misfires. I just had r8 coilpacks put in from CasteSystems Performance in Norwood Nj, BUT when i spoke to someone at KMD they still offered to take a look and claimed it would be under warranty if the coilpacks was the issue. Took my car in, had to wait an hour for the guy to come in, he looks at it for 5 minutes doesnt even run a full diagnostic and tells me i need new spark plugs which is expected from driving with misfires AND THAT the coilpacks i recieved from Castesystems are chinese knock off. THEY HAD THE NERVE TO CHARGE ME 95$ for a crappy diagnostic! At first this is embarrasing and i call Castesystems to sort out the problem, procedded to bring my GTI there. I reccomend you skip KMD tuning and take it to CasteSystems because he actually looked at my car and found there was a valve gasket cover leak, spilling oil into my 3rd cylinder and causing the misfires. After getting that replaced and new spark plugs the car ran beautiful with my "chinese coilpacks" and still running strong (this was late March, its May now) . KMD stinks.
