This week I accidentally booked the franchise down the street which I definitely don't like. Didn't realize it until I was checking in. Felix took care of it in a matter of minutes. The in-room snack and drink amenity included with the rate wasn't there when I got to the room. Not the first time -- it's happened on several stays now. Front desk sorted it eventually, around 5:30. The bigger issue was trying to reach a manager. I was told there was no upper management in the building and given an extension to call the next day, which does me no good when I'm checking out in the morning. The email address I was given for management bounced. The replacement was a generic inbox, not a person. Then a staff member came over and asked me -- six times, I counted -- if she could move me to a different hotel. I'd asked to talk to the GM, not to leave. Being nudged out the door for raising a service issue left a worse impression than the missing amenity ever could have. Room was clean, location is convenient to the bridge. Two stars is for service recovery, not housekeeping.

This would have been a 5- star experience if a few things had been different. First of all, the…read moreshower was impossibly loud, and the water was split about 50/50 between the shower and tap (= weak water pressure and flooding in the tub). The water from the tap for the bathroom sink sprayed quite a bit and it was hard to get the water temp just right. The location of the room at the neck of the ground floor wing meant frequent noise from the ice machine and people talking and laughing while using the machine all hours of the early morning. To top it off, the heater/AC was operating on the outdoor thermostat, so it was either too hot or too chilly throughout the night. Several things I liked include cleanliness of the room, good noise cancelation despite being right next to a massive highway, a mini fridge, extra blankets, and a good mattress. Parking wasn't an issue for a weeknight stay. Exiting the parking lot into the highway took a good 2-3 minutes even on this weekday mid-morning, because of the constant flow of traffic from the offramp.

Judging by some of the reviews here verses our experience,…read moreyou have to give this establishment an "A" for effort and the high reward for most improved. Sure, getting into the parking lot is a little tricky depending on what time of day you are driving in but being connected to the Hampton Corporation we are sure they will work this out in due time. The parking lot was well lit, clean and had ample parking for the duration of our stay. The lobby was pleasant, comfortable, cozy and smelled great. There were plenty of spaces for us to sit in small groups and chat amongst ourselves without disturbing others who were doing the same. The establishment was clean from top to bottom and there was plenty evidence of their efforts to maintain that cleanliness! So no complaints here. The food was good and received a thumbs up from our grandchildren who can be some picky eaters. The only snafu came with a misquoted rate for one of the days but once we got in touch with the manager he readily agreed to correct the misunderstanding which we expect to happen in the next few days. So compared to some of those old reviews on this site, congratulations have to be given to these folks for upgrading the level of their services!

Disappointing…read more Flying into LGA and making my way to NJ made for a long morning/early afternoon. All I wanted was to settle into my hotel room and relax for a bit. The hotel location is convenient to car transport if not the most alluring of locations (think 'office park'). But you're in Teaneck, not Midtown Manhattan so you should already be fine with location. I was. I was not fine with the level of service I received during my 3-night stay. I walked in to be greeted with attitude. Far from indifference, this was hostility. I didn't understand. I, literally, walked out of my rideshare and into negative body language (pursed lips, eye rolls and neck movements) and dismissive language. What made it worse was that at this time, I was close to Diamond status. This is a perk of membership? I wasn't smiled at, greeted, told about the hotel amenities, food options, or, even, offered water. Unacceptable for a hospitality business. The frustration continued with my mid-level room with no view. At first I was just happy to be in a room. This one had a decent size and I liked that I could stretch out. That's when I noticed multiple grains of rice on the floor. Was this not cleaned? The bedding didn't have visible stains but that's not dispositive of cleanliness. My fears were deepened when I went to the bathroom and discovered hair on the shower products. I contacted the front desk. No apology. No new room. Housekeeping came up (eventually, not immediately) and went through the motions of cleaning the floor and bathroom. I asked for a towel set from the cart. I slept in sweats, socks, long-sleeved shirt, and do-rag to minimize the amount of skin that touched the sheets. Again, no visible stains but I don't know if it was laundered (given the state of the room). 2 stars because I didn't leave with a rash. Faint praise, I know.

My first morning it was cheesy eggs, breakfast potatoes & a bagel & cream cheese. The 2nd morning oatmeal, yogurt & a pancake. Pretty good breakfast setup. No bathtub, shower only. I did not have to wait on a long line.(I did check in online but still had to check in at the desk to get a room key.) The breakfast buffet was excellent! Every day they had different dishes. Great variety. There were plenty of options for people who don't eat pork and even for vegetarians. Usually the only protein is eggs. But they also had chicken sausage, vegetarian sausage, and a yogurt bar. Of course there was the usual continental breakfast fare: waffle maker, assorted cereals, assorted breads (bagels, muffins, etc), fruit, and juices. Although there are some empty spaces at this minute I snapped some of my pictures, when one thing ran out they were quick to replenish it. And they made sure to keep food stocked until the end of breakfast (sometimes buffets start emptying things out well before closing time). This was definitely appreciated by those who came a few minutes before 10! The space for dining is a bit small. Every day except one, it was very crowded. But they do provide trays so you can take the food to your room, which I did each day. Having trays was awesome--such a small thing but made a big difference! They also have a hot drink area available all day: coffee, hot chocolate, and tea (although the flavors are basic).

The customer service at this motel was the absolute worst in the country. My daughter left her toiletry bag in the room when we left. Having left the area, we called and asked them to hold the bag for a UPS pick up. It took 3 calls to get an email address to send the UPS electronic label to the motel. UPS attempted to pick up the bag but couldn't because themotel staff refused to place the bag in a box. We then had a friend in the area go to the motel to retrieve the bag. The staff was refusing to release the bag without a copy of my friend's driver's license. She had no problem showing them her ID but with identify theft booming these days she did not see a need for them to keep a copy of her license. My daughter and I had made multiple calls to the motel over the past week trying to resolve this issue so they knew our voices and phone numbers. Even though we gave verbal authorization for them to give the bag to our friend, they continued to make the situation more difficult than necessary. It took threats of calling the police to get the bag released. Im not sure if it was their lack of ability to speak and comprehend the English language or just their lack of customer service training, but I would avoid this place at all costs.
