Entrance to the tennis center is through Palm Avenue, and not through the main park entrance which is on Sheridan. Overall, this is a very good tennis center, and it usually has a lot of activity.

It is part of the…read moreWalnut Creek neighborhood which sits between North University Drive and North 72nd Avenue and is home to several gated communities. The Walnut Creek area was annexed into the City of Pembroke Pines in 1999. The developer provided eight acres for the park which was built in 2002 at a cost of 1.9 million dollars. The Haskell Company, a Jacksonville-based firm that does much of the city's architectural design and construction work, was selected to provide preliminary architectural and engineering services for the project. $500,000 from the $400 million parks and land preservation bond issue approved by Broward County voters in 2000 was used to build the park along with a $200,000 grant from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program. The opening of the park allowed the Pasadena Lakes Optimist Club to expand and it provided additional baseball leagues to residents in the northeast section of the city. The Walnut Creek Park is located just east of University Drive on Taft Street and offers 3 lighted baseball/softball fields, 2 batting cages, 3 small pavilions, and 1 small shaded playground. Restrooms are always open and clean while the night lights are bright and allow for evening games. Note that you must have a permit from the city to use this facility for lessons or training. While I explored the park I discovered a Burrowing Owl nest. Burrowing owls are protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act. These owls are small and live in underground burrows found usually in parks. It is always a treat to find one but you must leave them undisturbed. Whether you are looking for a place to take the kids to play, engaging in a sports training or a game, or are just a nature lover, Walnut Creek Park is a valuable recreational resource for northeast Pembroke Pines.

The group that runs the games is made up of PE and elementary school teachers so you know they have had full background checks and are skilled at working with children. In addition to putting on events they also provide pe The program they put on feels like your physical education class but more fun. There are games set up and small groups rotate among them. Each game is from a different country and has a teacher to ensure that everyone is safe while having a great time. One game they brought was Korfball from Europe. It looks like basketball but you play it on scooters. Another game from Japan involved more scooters and an over sized soccer ball. Da-Ga is an African came of flag tag. My favorite was the giant parachute game from France that had kids diving under and playing on top of it. All of the games were well designed, easy to play, and most of all fun. It was great seeing kids who normally had their faces stuck to their phones playing Fortnite moving around, getting, exercise, and interacting with each other. Even the adults had a great time.
