Kodama koi farm had a "buy two get one free" deal for color up and all season koi food from Jul 17-19. Naturally I bought 2 to get one free, after a week I sent them an email asking if free bag will be send with the other two. Got a reply from Jess saying there's confusion on the sale and will only send 2 bags! Website clearly shows buy two get one free. I've been buying koi and koi food from them for more than 15 years. Totally disappointed and will start looking for a better store with more integrity

They were the only place I could find on the island that sold a semi-rare type of goldfish called a tamasaba. Their staff was responsive and helpful, and I was able to pick up my fish the same day I had ordered him online. Healthy and very beautiful, he's living in one of my indoor tanks right now, and I'm going to be a little sad when he moves to the outdoor pond as he gets bigger.

Deep in Mililani in the middle of a bunch of fruit and tree farms is this hidden koi farm. We visited during their open house which occurs once a month. They sell koi of all sizes, shapes, colors, and prices to the "general public" but most of the people there were serious koi enthusiasts. We just went to look at the fish, while others brought flashlights and magnifying glasses and studied every move before selecting their catch of the day. They all looked the same to me. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/FYFXf9Nnc8esv0f8-ydenw?select=EsnmAHXpWrcJUvGRPPSNlw#HzI6H3bVHil7wP6xC64Paw PRICES ranged from $20 for a baby koi all the way up to hundreds of dollars for the large koi. They also have an online auction where people from all over the world bid in the thousands of dollars for a single fish!! LOCATION: I posted step by step pictures of how to get there because Google maps will send you to the wrong place, and once you pass the guard, you're basically just driving on unpaved roads in the middle of fields. Step 1. Drive to the end of Meheula Parkway, go through the "Mililani Ag Park" driveway and be ready to present your license to the security guard. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/FYFXf9Nnc8esv0f8-ydenw?select=EsnmAHXpWrcJUvGRPPSNlw#ejLmv9_hfor0JbkWCszHOw Step 2. STAY LEFT at these signs. (this is important!) http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/FYFXf9Nnc8esv0f8-ydenw?select=EsnmAHXpWrcJUvGRPPSNlw#Szvf0drfisS7MLqtO7X4ig Step 3. Turn left at this telephone pole http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/FYFXf9Nnc8esv0f8-ydenw?select=EsnmAHXpWrcJUvGRPPSNlw#1UI9zGO6bKChxIOJq47pfg I've been here before when the entire farm was open to our group. During the open house yesterday they limited access to just the blue buckets in the center of the farm, so there wasn't as much to see, but if you're into koi and you have an opportunity to come here on a day when the entire farm is open, it's pretty cool. (The kids INISISTED on getting a fish, so we got a baby Heisei Nishiki. I think it's going to get too big for us next year sometime, so if you have a large koi pond, holler!)

This place is awesome. I have bpught 2 fish from them now and I just returned home from picking up our second addition. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I really appreciate their attention to detail and customer service and above all else, their fish are healthy.

The best place to buy High Quality Tosai from Japan, I just bought 5 tosai and very happy with the koi, have 5 more to come. And will come back to buy more. And they are very good services too.

If you've never been fishing before, this is a great experience because you're pretty much guaranteed to catch something! How it works: There are 2 prices, one for every person fishing / for each pole and another price for those just coming along for the fun! You're given a fishing pole and bait + a bucket. Once the fish has been caught and put into your bucket, its yours! The cool thing about this place is they will cook up the fish that you catch! They have different cooking styles and sauces. I would bring a chair, maybe even a small tent for shade, gloves because you do need to unhook them, and water to drink and to wash off your hands in between catches. The ponds are full of tilapia, and within an hour one person can probably catch 10 fish!

Fish were not biting much and what we did catch were small. The lady working that day said that the fish tend to bite more on warmer days when it's not raining -- she said that she thinks they hide out at the bottom when it rains. We ended up keeping 2 of our decent sized catches (still pretty small). However, I must say, the fish was fried to perfection!! We chose to have our fish fried whole, it was served with a scoop of rice, a refreshing broccoli-slaw salad and a cluster of plump, juicy grapes. A surprisingly tasty lunch to end our rainy fishing adventure. *Bonus tip: wear shoes/clothes you don't mind getting dirty. The red dirt can stain your shoes and does not wash off clothing very easily. We brought old shoes (trashed when we left) and changed out before we got in the car.

Whereas other shops wanted to charge me for a full on course, Captain Maddie set me up with her dive-master sister, Ashley. Ashley did a refresher on our way out then made sure I had a great, safe experience for my first time back in the water, taking me on two shallow reef dives. We saw so many turtles, eels, a shark and several octopuses (Ashley has an incredible eye for spotting them). I had such a great time I booked another dive. This time, noting my comfort level, Ashley took me on two deeper wreck dives. They were spectacular. I'm so grateful I found Ruckus, Maddie and Ashley. There are a ton of options for diving on Oahu and I really lucked out choosing them. The personal focus the sisters gave me both times was above and beyond. I can't wait to come back to Hawaii and go diving with them again and again.

Keith is also an advocate of fishing, for fishing and the community. He truly cares about preserving the fishing rights of our shoreline anglers and their families. He has strong opinions about our government and the many failures they have done to the shoreline fishermen. No matter how indifferent, he will always be there to support those who can't or won't speak up while respecting your opinion and your right to privacy. Both share a vast knowledge of fishing and they can each tell you their share of fishing stories from the many who visit or their own, as evident by the photos on the wall. There is also a boat launch. - There are a few picnic tables around to sit and eat. - There are fish in the water. We saw them. - Fishing license and park entry permit is only $6 for military and residents, for a whole year. Go here to get one: https://freshwater.ehawaii.gov/freshwater/ The Not So Good: - Dirty water, land, trails. People have made the park filthy. - Fishing is not so great. Out of the 12 people with lines in the water, NO ONE caught anything. We were trying all kinds of lures, spinners, bait, etc., during multiple times of the day. Nothing. We met a few other people who had fished there a lot more than we had, and none of them had ever caught anything. Not so great for kids who want to catch something when they fish. - Park opens at 7am. If you want to fish before sunrise, you better find another part of the lake. Bottom Line: I don't think I'll go here again unless I go with a guide, someone who knows the lake VERY well. Since everything is catch and release at this lake, the fun is in the catching, and everyone we ran into that day have never caught anything!

I walked into a few other surf and snorkel spots but they mostly carried short fins. I went with the Leaderfins which are the most affordable carbon fins. The fins do come separately from the foot pocket, so I also got their forza foot pockets. They do offer a service where they put together your fins and foot pockets but only certain people are trained on that, so I did have to pick it up just a few days later- and that service is $30. I also got a pair of diving socks to go with my fins. They have different sizes, thicknesses, and cuts (high vs low). I also got a new diving mask and snorkel. The best thing about going to a dive shop is the ability to try things on and Westside Dive has so many different options. Being able to put on the foot pockets with the diving socks or even just trying on a few different masks to find the one that best fits your face is why it's better to come in person than buying online. The service was also super friendly. I was making some big purchases, so I wanted to make sure that each component was exactly right and the staff here was helpful and overall super chill. We talked story for a bit, exchanged where we like to go diving and even some fish recipes. If you're looking for diving gear, support local and check out Westside Dive!
