This ice cream place is located right in the heart of Havertown. They seem to have a very popular selection of cookies. They don't really have a good display case for their ice cream. Honestly, I really wanted to try this place because of the old fashioned in the title of the store. I ended up getting an ice cream sandwich but telling them to put the chocolate chip cookies to the side. It was very quick service since there wasn't anyone really in the store. There were some seats around the store as well. For 3-4ish bucks, they gave a fair size of ice cream. I got the graham slam that tasted pretty basic. It didn't taste that fresh. Ok so little back story. When I was growing up Koffmeyer's used to be just a little cookie place off of South Street on Second Street. The smell of those cookies baking would entice you every single time to stop in. You couldn't fight it, or I couldn't anyway! So when they closed up at that spot i thought they were gone forever. Then a few years ago something made me look them up and there they were!!! I met up with some friends at Koffmeyer's yesterday early afternoon (Saturday). They serve ice cream so I had a small cup of graham slam with hot caramel. It was wonderful! The service was wonderful and when I mentioned I wanted to purchase cookies as well the young lady helping me checked the timer on the oven to tell me when they'd be ready. Excellent ice cream. I did have an issue with the serving size of the ice cream sundae. Tons of whipped cream but small scoops of ice cream. And, I would have preferred eating the sundae out of a glass bowl versus the small, plastic disposable bowl. One of the servers was delightful, the other young server was having an awful day. Sometimes it's good to let the kids run the store. On this evening I was cheerfully greeted at 9:45 by three nice teen girls. They were nice considering the store would be closing in 15 minutes. The young ladies were very gracious in answering my questions and helped me decide on one flavor out of so very many. I'm so glad they told me about their favorite. Graham Slam, it's mixed with chocolate dipped crispy graham crackers. Boy was it good! While paying for my ice cream I got a couple of small soft chocolate chip cookies. They were pretty good also. The atmosphere is similar to a old fashioned ice cream shop of the 60's not 50's but more modern. During busy hours I'm sure parking will be at a premium. This cool shop is located in the heart of Havertown. Brookline Blvd hosts a bunch of cool tasty places with plenty of off-street parking (metered by town). Passed by this place when we visited St Jude so we decided to go back on a hot summer night. We were definitely not alone as the place was packed with at least 2 dozen other people. They are known for their cookies so we had to sample them. We had a few chocolate chip cookies and they were just ok to me. I prefer the soft batch and these were on the hard side. We also had ice cream. My son had a chocolate soft serve cone which he enjoyed. Hubby had a chocolate shake which he also enjoyed. They make it with fresh chocolate ice cream which is what he prefers (others use the chocolate syrup stuff). I had a cup of the strawberry ice cream which was great. I ordered small but it was a nice size which made me full. There were a few benches out front which we utilized along with the trash cans. The staff was very friendly. I love this Havertown ice cream spot. Delicious hand scoops of creamy ice cream in house made waffle cones with sprinkles hits the spot on a hot day. They also have soft serve ice cream and Italian water ice. My real favorite is the house made cookies. Soft cookies in a variety of flavors. Today I had a chocolate covered chocolate chip and a oatmeal raisin that went well with my rum raisin cone. They sell the cookies by the pound and will put them in a tin or you can order several sized trays for a party. If you are in the area stop in and get some. Count the calories tomorrow. read more

So the rumor was that Koffmeyer's had opened on that funky little block of Brookline Blvd in Havertown. I stopped down around lunchtime to check it out and yup, there it was. It's a tiny little place and when you walk in it feels like just what it is; a small town ice cream shop. It looked to me like it was family run. There was a mother baking cookies and several young teenagers dipping ice cream and serving customers. I'm tough to please when it comes to ice cream shops because I've worked in Olde City and visited Franklin Fountain several times. That's about as good as it gets. I perused the menu boards. I saw shakes, sundaes, cones, and pints in many flavors. Also lots and lots of cookies. There was chocolate chip, macadamia nut, peanut butter and others. These are the half dollar size cookies sold by weight. One half pound will cost you about $5. Speaking of $5, that's also the cost of a pint of ice cream and I chose chocolate raspberry. I headed home to share my treat with the lovely wife. I had high expectations and sadly they were not met. My ice cream was good but not great. It was rich with cream and that's good. I immediately tasted the raspberry but not the chocolate. That's not a good thing. There were also a lot of ice crystals which is often a bad sign. Over all it was OK but for a premium price, in little Havertown, I expected more. I love supporting local businesses so I'll be back to try the cookies and maybe try the ice cream once again. For now I'm going with three stars and the hope that my next experience is better. read more

Many many many years ago I was a regular customer of Koffmeyer's when they were located in Philadelphia at 2nd and Lombard. I'm almost certain I shed a few tears (maybe it was my allergies) when they closed. Fast forward quite a few years. I'm taking a friend to Brookline Blvd in Havertown to pick up a few things, I didn't want to go but she couldn't drive so I drove... under duress. As I'm looking for parking I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. Was that really Koffmeyer's ? My attitude totally changed INSTANTLY. I whipped into a parking spot, ran in the store and I was instantly hit with the familiar scent of the cookies but then I began to panic , I did not see my favorite treat. I couldn't remember the name of it so I began to describe it . The owner looked at me and smiled, he said if you can remember the name of the cookie, I will put it back on the menu. I racked my brain, I had to have this cookie. I'm looking around as if someone anyone please give me a lifeline then I remembered it and I screamed "IT'S THE HEADHOUSE SQUARE." The owner clapped and thanked me for being such a loyal customer. Now I'm vested, I don't care how many people are behind me, I needed to know if they still had the milk they sold at 2nd and Lombard. I gushed "It was literally the best milk I've ever had in my life" He again smiled and said "that was cows milk. we don't have that anymore but it was delicious." We talked a bit more, I placed my order and went back to the car with the biggest smile on my face while carrying a huge bag of cookies . My girlfriend , who had been waiting in the car the whole time I was in Koffmeyer's reminiscing, was NOT happy when I returned. For her not so nice attitude, I refused to share my cookies. Maybe the owner was just being nice when he told me if I remembered the name of the cookie he would put it back on the menu, but today I see it is on the menu (although it's a special order). We went late as they were closing after eating dinner Down the street. There were closing earlier than we expected. As we stood outside to eat our treats closing time was upon us. One of the teenagers working there slammed the front door indicating they were closing as customers were trying to enter. Meanwhile it wasn't after closing but a few minutes before. It was not a Great vibe to see. I remember being a teen worker but also as an adult in this economy I would like nice customer service and not see doors slammed in faces. It's a great little, locally owned ice cream shop that just makes you feel happy when you walk in. You more than likely will have to wait in line before you order, but I always use that time to decide what I want. They have a large variety of ice creams, shakes, homemade cookies.. the usual ice shop assortments. One of my favorites is an ice cream sandwich with the homemade cookies. Koffmeyer's is a nice little ice cream parlor, something that was previously missing in Havertown. The interior is welcoming and they have plenty of ice cream flavors, which will pit your brain against your taste buds. This was our first trip so I tried my favorite flavor, classic strawberry. I have to say I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. It was decent at best. My daughter ordered birthday cake ice cream, which she enjoyed very much. My son had the peanut butter cup...very rich and plenty of peanut butter! Relatively inexpensive I guess. For four of us we were out for $9 or so. Not bad. I will try it again. I sampled a black raspberry flavor that seemed to be very good. And at some point I'll have to try their cookies, which look delicious. read more

Ordered the mint chocolate chip and butter pecan - @ scoops for under $4 is a good deal compared to price of my other fav ice cream places in OCMD and Center City. We love walking here and getting a scoop. In the last couple of years though I've had issues with nuts in a specific ice cream (Nittany Paws) that isn't supposed to be there. This happened again a couple of weeks ago and the young lady working told me "well, I don't know what you want me to tell you". Thankfully I could taste the texture difference, spit it out and dumped my ice cream and most importantly, do not have an anaphylactic reaction to this nut. Just a warning to anyone with a nut allergy. We still come here because it's typically a nice place with otherwise good ice cream. I know what to stay away from. The smell of this place alone would make me come back! Heaven! I have brought my 2-year old son here a hand full of times this summer, and each time is a great experience. The girls who work behind the counter are so sweet. I took my son last night and this is how it went down: He wanted a chocolate sundae (surprise surprise), and the girl who waited on us made it just right for him. I ordered soft serve because it's easier for him to eat. I took a few bites of the fudgey goodness and was impressed. Son was not impressed that I was eating his dessert. So good. I was torn between the fudge brownie and caramel apple ice cream for my treat. I ended up getting a sample of the caramel apple and was sold. It's vanilla with swirls of (you guessed it!) caramel and apples. I thought I tasted a hint of brown sugar in there but I am not positive. On a cake cone, it was perfect. Eating it made me think of fall :-) The cookies (choc chip, macadamia nut and cin. raisin) looked just baked and delicious, but I had some self-control and said "next time". It's places like Koffmeyer's in Havertown that make me happy to be a resident. We get bogged down with so many "commercial" eateries that it's nice to have a "mom and pop" place to go for superior service and quality food! read more

The ice cream is super customizable with your choice of toppings and cones or a bowl. The staff i've met are a bunch of nice teenage girls who are super friendly and willing to answer questions and let you taste test! Saw this place advertised on the news for "national ice cream day" so naturally I dragged my BF to take me there to try it out. When we first pulled up, you could literally smell the cookies and waffles baking, which was amazing. The list of flavors is extensive, the place was so cute like a vintage shop you would see in "Grease," and the staff were young and very nice. My BF got the nittany paws flavor and I got birthday cake both smalls in a cup. Not going to lie, we both said to each other that the ice cream was just OK. I liked the bits of cake in mine, but I have had similar, if not, better birthday cake in a tub. Maybe I expected too much because of the hype or maybe I could try something else like the ice cream sandwich. Smells like fresh baked cookies and waffle cones being made, YUM! Shows the many flavors available, a little answer key too, detailing what's what.
