Asked for a small vanilla/chocolate twist custard dipped in the hard chocolate and this is what I was given lol first off, it's enormously wide, making it impossible to eat it without making a mess or having to put it in a bowl. Secondly, um was the hard chocolate running out? if so, couldn't you just have said that? instead of charging me $6 for whatever this drippy mess is? What is even more sad is that the only reason I ordered the hard chocolate is because the last time I was here i got the chocolate sprinkles and they tasted so fake or old (not sure what was the issue) that I didn't want to chance it again. I used to love Richmond's but they are either going downhill or not training their employees. Staff is nice and polite though.

Was craving ice cream and couldn't pass up this place since I was in the area! Of course trying pumpkin flavored foods is a must during the fall season, so I had to get the specialty pumpkin pie ice cream sundae! The portion was huge! The sundae was supposed to be a snack, but it ended up being my dinner lol. The pumpkin pie ice cream was delicious and creamy which contrasted the crispy waffle bowl. It was quite sweet and I wouldn't recommend eating the whole thing by oneself, but if you have a sweet tooth or is up to a sweet challenge, go for it! I would love to try the other specialty sundaes when I'm in the area again! :)

"Well, shake it up, baby, now, twist and shout...you know you twist so fine...!" It was a Sunday afternoon in August. We were getting gas next door and this soft serve sign caught our attention!! Soft serve is my favorite! If I see an ice cream stand in my travels, you better believe I'll be making a pit stop! How happy I was to have discovered Richman's! No lines, we walked right up to the window and despite all the ice cream choices on the colorful menu, I knew what I wanted! Kiddie twist, chocolate and vanilla cone with chocolate jimmies! Yaaasssss! They call them "jimmies" up north which is what I'm used to saying! I grew up in the north but when I moved down south to VA, they called those delicious bits of confection "sprinkles" and never knew what I was talking about when I said I wanted "jimmies" as my topping. Some folks call them "ants". Whatevs! I call them a must on my cone!! It was good to feel at home! My daughter and I share a lot in common, even ice cream! We were served quickly and efficiently by two sweet young gals. One of them even offered to snap our photo! The place was clean and had a cute little spot outside with tables and umbrellas to sit and devour your fav treat! The price was on point! Our cones were crunchy and fresh and the ice cream was creamy and tasty with a smooth texture. For the kiddie portion, it was very satisfying! "You know you look so fine..." and you were yummy down to the last bite!

Pretty yummy! Seems like a local hotspot which I like (all about supporting local businesses). The woman who served me both visits was super sweet. On my second visit, I got sprinkles (+75¢) on my gelati (bc I'm excessive) and she gave me a little bowl of extra sprinkles because they kept falling off... I didn't even ask! :) thank you!

I prefer this ice cream to Rita's, which seems to be most people's go to. The prices aren't bad and you get a lot of ice cream.

The inside needs a little updating and better lighting, but it was clean. Unfortunately a brand new mega Wawa opened across the street so I hope they can coexist. The owner was also my server and she was awesome! We had a great conversation about the brands of ice cream she carries, the building and her passion for the business. She recommended a peanut butter chocolate ice cream which I believe is made by Kemps which was fantastic. I went with a medium sized in a cup and it did not disappoint. It was loaded with PB swirls and rich chocolate ice cream. Cost $4 and change. I love seeing how a lot of these small Ice Cream places make the most of their limited space and this spot definitely pulls that off. Cakes, water ice, hand dipped, soft served, toppings, sundaes, etc. You have to take a trip here if you get an itching for ice cream. The owner cares, she's crafted her menu for almost 18 years. I'm a fan and you'll be too.

Before digging in I popped a stray mushroom that was sitting on top of omelette before taking the photo. Immediately noticed the amount of flavor of the mushroom alone, it prompted me to ask if they were marinated, the chef/owner came out after I was done and said she takes baby bella mushrooms, cuts them up and sautees them in salt pepper garlic, "no cans here' she said and you can tell. It's kind of like your favorite bar....there are many requirements and one size does not fit all. From the outside, places like this often get that label, but any true water ice fan knows that not all are made the same. While I have other places that I enjoy for cold desserts, whether they be custard, hard ice cream, gelato, or something else, for me, nothing can top CJ's for water ice. Maybe it's because of the variety of absolutely outrageously wonderful flavors, or that many of them have tiny little bits of fruit in them, or the icy yet creamy texture, or even that a kid's small is only a dollar and is way more than enough. It could be any one of these things or maybe all. There's even more I COULD be though too. It could be the upbeat Caribbean music playing from the windows every time I'm there, or the positive attitudes and honest opinions of everyone I've met working there. Or possibly the fact that they don't just have desserts and also have Jamaican beef patties, empanadas, and other awesome street-style foods to grab if you want something quick before inhaling that sweet sweet water ice. More than likely, and to be honest, I know it's all of these things combined that make CJ's a wonderful place beyond just their water ice. So make it a point to stop here and pick your favorite flavor, sit down and enjoy. You'll keep coming back time after time, sometimes having a beef patty probably, because why wouldn't you?
