I was in Moalboal for 3 nights and ended up at Veranda Restaurant and Bar a few times. It's located…read moreright along the waterfront with a perfect view. The inside is spacious and there's even a few tables along the beach/water that's hidden when you first walk in. They have TV's showing some sort of sports game. Staff is friendly and the cooks are good. The menu is long with a mix of Filipino and western food; breakfast, sandwiches & toastis, crepes, soup, pasta, pancit, rice dishes, salads, appetizers, sizzlers, meats, seafood, pizza and desserts. - Mango pancake (120 PHP) - Excellent! First pancake I've had in 6 months. Hit the spot with a great fluffy texture. - Chicken BBQ (200 PHP) - this dish takes about 10-15 minutes to cook. You choose from plain rice, garlic rice or French fries. Went with garlic rice which was delicious. The chicken was tender and well worth the wait. They love their sweet sauces here; the chicken is coated in it. - Banana pancake (90 PHP) - fluffy, airy texture with a good amount of bananas. You know it's good when you don't need to add much syrup. - Spanish omelette (150 PHP) - the omelette was excellent; flavourful and creamy. Inside, there was onion, green and red pepper, mushroom and cheese. Well worth a try, especially for their pancakes!

The picture of the nachos on the sign looked amazing. The drinks came out fairly quick and were delicious. Off to a good start .....then it went downhill. It took :50 to get the nachos and what they sat in front of us was not nachos! It looked like it might be a multi-layer dip but it was not even that. When we tasted it, well...it was canned spaghetti sauce, mozzarella cheese and ground beef. We asked the waitress and she said that is their nachos. I let her know it was spaghetti sauce and she told us it was the same... tomato and onion like pico and cheese. We talked to the manager and he said that was the nachos, I told him we expected what was in the picture. He asked where we saw the picture. I said on the large menu board out front. He walks over to it looks at it and with a straight face says that is just an example photo of what nachos look like but that ours was definitely the nachos. We paid and left, went down the street to a restaurant that served what they showed. We would never go back. Not just because what they served but that a manager would ignore their own signage. There are too many good places to eat in Moalboal to waste you time and money here. Best part of the experience was having a story of the worst nachos EVER!

The family had a big dinner here a few years ago and that was my first time at the Granary, which…read moreis located in the Richmonde hotel. I'll be honest, that dinner with the family was quite nice but I can't really point to anything memorable, other than I liked the table settings and presentation of the food. We were a party of 40?? And they were prepared. But in staying eight (8) nights at the Richmonde for a vacation to visit family, I'm so glad we opted to pay extra for the buffet breakfast. I know, I know - Anthony Bourdain states that we should grab a meal far away from the hotel, but I actually liked it here. If you're not seated in the main dining area, by the kitchen, you'll be seated in the bar area. That's what I call the Business Class section. You may have to walk a little farther for your food, but it's not as busy and you can have a quiet conversation. As for the food, I really loved the omelettes which are made to order - I usually just asked for everything. There is a wide variety of breads, rolls, cakes (calorie counting??, not anymore), jams, cereals, there's just a ton of carb choices. My favorite was the Champorado - which is a chocolate rice porridge. Yes, this was a childhood memory in a bowl, topped with condensed milk. For protein, there was a lot of that too - longanisa sausages, beef tapa, and pork Tocino. There was a lot of fresh fruit too, and unlimited bacon. One warning, the coffee was not strong enough so have the hot chocolate instead. It was a pleasure to come here every morning and I had extra family members join me and they don't charge it to your room, so bring your credit card with you.

We opted to add breakfast as part of our hotel booking. They have an extensive menu both Filipino…read moreand western food. The service is great, they remove our dirty dishes right away. The size of this place is not too big nor too small but I think for the amount of their clientele they could use a bigger space.

We were later told that they prepare it by boiling the grounds for a long time. Unfortunately, the high acidity and caffeine turned out stomachs and we suffered the rest of the day. We had some Suman, which had tender sticky glutinous rice and a grated coconut topping with unrefined sugar syrup. It was delicious. The Puto was spongy, slightly tangy and fragrant. It would have been perfect with Dinuguan (pork blood stew) which I eyed greedily as someone at a table beside us had ordered it and seemed to be enjoying himself. I had ordered Tapsilog as well, but our server said it was not available but highly recommended the Corn(ed beef) silog, which turned out to be exceptional. The egg was perfectly fried with toasted edges and a slightly runny yolk. Rice had perfect grain texture and slightly slick with garlic oil. And the corned beef was velvety without having any oil runoff! Yes, the vibe is uber local, and old timers adore it here. Come for an authentic experience.

So disappointed! We specifically came for the tempura shrimps they advertised. I have eaten at…read moreJapanese restaurants that served tempura shrimps using Panko. As you can see on their promotional photo, the tempura shrimp shown there looks nothing to what was served to us. I posted both side by side for comparison. The "tempura shrimp" served to us was just flour battered shrimp. As to the halo halo, there was only 3 mix ingredients; mini sago, gulaman and cornflakes. No beans, no langka, no pinipig, no saging, no kamote etc. Ice provided was a water logged mess. It was not shaved, so you get big pieces of ice. The place is very tight. It was not wheelchair friendly nor handicap friendly. There was only one person manning the entire main food table dishing out food to you. So there was a long line waiting. It was extremely uncomfortable seated inside even though the Aircon was on. We arrived at 12:30pm on a Sunday, so there was no reason food served was like this. For the salad bar there was only 3 ingredients; lettuce, tomatoes and shredded carrots. The only vegetable dish I saw aside from the salad section was fried kangkong... that's it! Now for the plus side, the hostess/servers/help were A+, so I tipped generously because it's not their fault the food is subpar. There is also free garage parking next to their building.

The two times we've been here, it's been marginal at best, but really, we won't return!…read more Not only are we trying to avoid the nutritional shortfalls - high fructose syrup, white flours and sugars, stale lettuce and food-coloured papaya strips - but to taste something that remotely resembles a decent American breakfast seems impossible: * Only the steamed eggs were as they should be. * The tough cold bacon had been re-heated after asking for it fresh and crispy. * With no toaster in sight they can't toast bread: found myself using a stiff waffle as toast to eat my eggs. Another guest tried to use their untoasted bread but left her eggs and bread on the plate. * The limp salad garnish on at least four plates was left untouched. * My wife's boneless bangus was passable but greasy and almost tasteless. * A thin slightly-hard stale weird potato-like mini-patty masqueraded as 'hash browns'. * The cook tried to present the meals well, but the actual food is more important. We won't ever go back to eat drek, and won't recommend it to you! Unfortunately, we don't know of an alternative in Iloilo anywhere, and so it's simply better to buy your own bacon and eggs, make your own hash browns, and toast some pretty good Nicolette Bakery bread at home.
