I have to admit, it was a different Indian restaurant experience than what we've had in the past. I walked in and nobody was speaking English. I didn't know what the dishes were but hoped someone could explain. When I walked in I didn't see anywhere to sit and eat. I saw a young man lying on a cot in a different room off the entrance. I asked some of the patrons ahead of me if there were tables to sit at and they directed me to a hallway that led to the booths. When it was my turn at the counter I told the man that my past experiences with Indian were Chicken Tika and Chicken Tika Masala and Naan. After a little discussion with him he told me about Chicken Biryani. I remembered it being mentioned in other reviews as being good. It sounded good from his description so I ordered one order for my husband and I to split. I ordered 2 orders of garlic naan. We took a whole order with us because they are huge. (My husband was waiting outside with the dog until the food came). The food was delicious and everyone who we came in contact with were very nice. It appears to be a place for truck drivers to eat and take a rest. There were a ton of trucks in the parking lot. Fair warning: do not come here if you can't speak at least a couple words of Hindi or anything similar. You will be extremely lost as there seems to only be one person here who can speak even just a few words of English and they are not always there either. Other than that, this place is pretty minimalistic. It's pretty much just a house, the front is pretty deserted, you just walk in and see yourself. The menu is only two or three dishes every day, so it's pretty limited. It's also only vegetarian here. I also ordered mango lassi. I've had this at other restaurants many times and this tasted more authentic. I could taste the yogurt and spices, and not just like mango flavored yogurt. Service was great! The person at the counter explained the menu and even chose a dish for us since we could not decide what to pick. When we came in, we thought it was takeout only. This place may be worth the stop just for it's sheer bizarreness. Usually I'm a sucker for oddities, but in this case, the food didn't rise to the occasion. The building layout makes no sense, which is frankly endearing. There is a massive video surveillance system behind the counter, where a man with a gun takes your order. Less endearing. None of that matters to me if the food is good. But in this case, it was middling. The flavors were satisfactory, but $15 for a rather small helping on a cafeteria tray just didn't cut it. I have no problem with a workman's lunch, but I could eat better and more for less in expensive LA. There must be a subpopulation of Indian truckers that this restaurant serves. Which is random and awesome, and I wish this restaurant the best. But in a desert full of hidden gems, it felt like a wasted opportunity as I passed through. read more

There's a whiteboard out front near the main desk with the menu of the day displayed, with no prices. Once you order, you can go sit down and they bring you hot, fresh food. After a long day's drive, we were happy to see an Indian dhaba with homestyle food. We ordered two combos (rice, chapatis + 2 subjis) and one chicken wrap. The subjis (palak paneer and kadhi pakoda) were freshly made, hot and relatively spicy. We only got chapatis and no rice with the other, probably should have asked for it and did not. The older gentleman (father of the younger man at front desk?) came by to bring us additional fresh chapatis and was very warm in the traditional serving style. However, the prices charged in the end were relatively high - California / Bay Area prices. They charged $12.99 for each combo meal and $14.99 for the chicken wrap which was in fact, huge (like a well-filled Burrito), ending up paying over $50 for 3 people. We wondered if the prices were quoted based on who the customer is, because I would be surprised if truck drivers would pay this rate for 2 chapatis and 2 small subjis when they could get a filling fast-food meal for less. read more

On our way back to Orange County from Grand Canyon on 40 West Freeway, we were hungry and the only place we found nearby is Subway and Kohinoor Dhaba. We were so glad we decided to eat at Kohinoor Dhaba! The place is a small house with a few booths. The menu is written on a white board as you enter the front door. We had the curry chicken and Aloo Gobi. Roti was given to mop up the curry and the server kept asking if we want more Roti. The food is simple yet so delicious! The servers were super friendly. There majority of their clients are truckers (Indian descents) so we know this place is good. Most ate there and then bought to go for their journey. Best food ever in middle of nowhere!! This review is from my 7 year old who says she could eat the whole restaurant . We ordered Shahi paneer, dal tadka, mix vegetarian. We all ate more than our appetite , food hit right to your heart. Serving person was super sweet and fed us with his heart. In the end we ate the custard recommended by the person and it was bomb.
