I love good chocolate and fine confections. I worked in a confectionery for the last ten years, so I really appreciate the passion and effort it takes to make high-quality chocolates. I've had Kohler Chocolates before and have always been impressed. Since we were staying at the American Club for the weekend, stopping by the chocolate shop was a must. As part of the stay, you receive a small box of Terrapins as a welcome gift and then a couple of square truffles with the nightly turn-down service, which only made us more excited to visit the store. We went on a Sunday morning while they were just putting out their selections in the display case. It isn't a huge assortment, but everything they offer is beautifully crafted and clearly made with care. I was especially surprised and impressed when we asked if it was possible to sample something and they offered us an entire truffle rather than just a small piece. That was incredibly generous. You can purchase pre-boxed assortments, but if you want a custom selection, you can choose any combination you like and they will box it up for you. They offer gift boxes for four or nine pieces, which are perfect sizes for sharing or giving as gifts. Kohler calls them terrapins, but to me they're the best turtles you will ever have. The name comes from their shape -- caramel and pecans clustered together and dipped in chocolate, looking a bit like a little turtle -- but whatever you call them, they're perfection. The combination of buttery caramel, crunchy pecans, and rich chocolate is spot on. Everything in the shop looks amazing, but I can never bring myself to try anything else. We have visited the chocolate store waaaayyy to many times than I wish to disclose! lol. We have tried so many different variations of chocolates from the terrapins, Rice Krispie, key lime and more. The terrapins are my favorite . The staff are always friendly, especially the manager. The ice cream has also satisfied the ice cream cravings. Our favorite candy is toffee so I was excited to see Kohler Chocolates had a Toffee Bark! The price was expensive but thought it would be worth investigating their toffee. No one in our family liked it. We all came to the same conclusion: the chocolate coating was creamy and delicious but the toffee inside was tough, chewy and bitter. I never had to throw away toffee but this went into the garbage after 2 weeks of no one wanting to eat anymore of it. So disappointed in this product and will not take the risk of buying anymore Kohler Chocolates. It definitely was not worth the money. read more

Stopped by Kohler Chocolates to get some sweet treats for the holidays. Brimming with some seriously stunning chocolates, their hand crafted chocolates would make a lovely gift for anyone on your holiday gift list. We picked up some hot chocolate bombs for a few folks on our gift list (peppermint milk chocolate bomb? Yes, please). Turtles of all varieties seem to be their specialties, so if you're a fan of caramels, Kohler Chocolates has you covered. The prices are a bit steeper than other chocolate shops and the service was a little uninspired (maybe holiday doldrums were in effect?). I might not get all my stocking stuffers here, but I purchased a few particularly lovely chocolates for gifts. Get to it! read more

Craft chocolate that tastes as good as they look and they look pretty darn good. These chocolates are like a piece of art with their gorgeous hand designs and beautiful sheen. Really have to be seen to be appreciated as words do not do them credit. Price is a tad high for my taste though but would make an excellent gift for any person, especially discerning person in your life, where you want to make an impression. Everything was well arranged and presentable, the folks working there were very friendly, fun, and welcoming. Friendly staff and delicious chocolate. If a truffle snob, I would skip them; it is their turtle (terrapins) that you need to be here for. It is delicious and the has the perfect balance of all ingredients and the perfect snack size. Herb Kohler was presented over 50 versions to find this perfect combo for the original terrapin with milk chocolate, filled with the smoky and burnt caramel that has salted pecans sneaked in. There are other versions of the terrapins that are also just as delicious. I would recommend doing a four pack so you can try the black strap Walnut and Java coffee bean. read more

Kohler Dark Chocolate Brandy: When it comes to liquor, I'm a fan of sweeter spirits like schnapps, rum, honey whiskey, and brandy. Brandy is made by distilling grapes and the most renowned creations come from Cognac and Armagnac in southwestern France. Kohler Original Recipe Chocolates was founded in 2003 in Kohler, WI (a second location can be found in Chicago, IL). It wasn't until 2015 that the primarily chocolate shop ventured out to create their Dark Chocolate Brandy. I tried the brandy neat at my family's Christmas gathering and I wasn't particularly enjoying it (the brandy, not the party). I thought it might be good in my chocolate shake recipe, so I poured a little off to take home with me. When combined into my recipe I thought it was great. Since I would never drink it neat or on the rocks, but loved it in a chocolate shake, I am giving it the dual rating of approved (shake, recipe below) and just okay (neat/on the rocks). How has this place not been reviewed yet?! Truly a gem and fantastic chocolates :) Walked in around 5:45 (when they close at 6, we really didn't want to be those people, sorry!) but we were welcomed with open arms and a couple of tastings. Just about all of us girls bought chocolates and some kind of treat (latte... ice cream... adult milkshake) and everything was splendid. While walking out of the establishment, what I assume was the manager, he thanked us for coming in and letting them really enjoy their last 15 minutes of the day. The baristas are not trained in making a simple macchiato. The chocolates are good but knowledge of coffee service is lacking.

Very cute little spot to stop for a drink and a sweet. We got whatever daily special they had - a glass of wine and some chocolates and it was the perfect amount to stop for a bit and relax without feeling sluggish afterwards.
