I'm being a bit generous with two stars. The fixtures and decor in Kohl's look like they want to be a real department store, the kind that would anchor a mall. Under that surface, however, is a store where the service could learn a lot from Target. I'm not impressed with the prices. Dockers pants that are being sold for $44.95 are on racks marked with red "SALE" signs. It's easy to get the impression that anything not sold at full MSRP qualifies as a "SALE." Service, in my experience, has been awful. I went there on Tuesday of this week carrying a coupon that had been published with that very day's newspaper. I failed to check the date on the coupon, as it didn't occur to me that they would issue a coupon that wasn't yet valid. After my son and I found some pants that fit him - not an easy task given his age and size right between boys' and men's sizes - I asked an employee working on the sales floor if they had any others in the same size. She barely spoke English and told me to go to the boy's department, even though the pants I had already found were in a men's size. The reason I was asking in the first place is that the racks were jumbled chaos. At the register, I was informed that my coupon could not be used until the next day. The clerk offered to hold the items for me. I told her that I may not be able to return until the day after. She told me to just mark the hold form with the date two days hence, which I did. When I returned on Thursday, I first went to a register. I told the older woman working there that I needed to purchase some items that were being held. She asked if they were being held at the register. I said I didn't know, just that they were being held. This woman rolled her eyes at me and pointed her finger up. After a few seconds, she figured out that I wasn't fluent in her type of sign language, she told me that I needed to go to the second floor to customer service. I found the customer service counter upstairs. An unsmiling woman went through the hold items and announced that she couldn't find it. About this time, another unsmiling woman emerged from an office. She was wearing a name tag that read Renee. She asked me when I had placed the items on hold. I said it was two days previous. She said that they only hold items for one day and that they would have been returned to the sales floor. I explained that the two-day hold had been noted on the form and that the sales clerk had told me it would be fine. Renee said that they never hold items for more than one day without a manager's approval. No smile. Nothing resembling an apology. No offer to have an employee help me find them again. The place was full of employees who look unhappy to be there. I won't be going back. read more

I have been to this same store several times since it's opening years ago. Each time was a huge disappointment but I kept hoping it would either change or improve. Well, I thought I'd give them yet another chance today by going to get a pair of Levi's. BIG mistake!! Yes, they have a variety of Levis but they were all mixed up with no organization and you might as well ask the wall for assistance since there is never an associate seen. Every time I shopped this store I have NEVER had an associate approach me and ask if I needed assistance. I even searched for someone for assistance and could NOT find a soul. This store should or must be run by robots since you don't see humans EXCEPT at the check out lanes where they will HAPPILY take your money. I think I've given enough chances. They didn't want my money anyway. I can purchase the same Levi's, with similar prices, and with an even wider variety of styles at another local store, and they greet you as you come in the door and are ready to assist when you need it. Hot and Cold at this place. The clearance racks can hold some gems, you just need to be willing to search a bit. Lots of variety for different styles. Some stuff looks cheap-o and others seem well made- the problem here is there isn't much price difference between the two. I went to Kohl's Vallejo to purchase a pair of earrings. I located a beautiful pair of Vera Wang earrings. So I take the pair of earrings to the lady by the name of McKinsey, to ask her if I could purchase the earrings in the jewelry department. Now at the time, Mckinsey's cleaning sunglasses at the jewelry counter (not helping anyone) her told me to go to the regular cash register to make my purchase, meanwhile there's about ten customers in line with ten items or more. I told her the line is really long and I only have my one pair of earrings. Mckinsey stated she will pull for the line in a minute. 5 minutes later another customer went up to the same person working at the jewelry counter Mckinsey, cleaning sunglasses (still haven't taken the next customer out the line) asked her if she could purchase her jewelry in the jewelry department. She was to NO as well. After waiting in line for 30 minutes I was pissed I asked the cashier when did they start making customers purchasing jewelry pay at the main cash register. The cashier seemed concerned about the level of poor customer service and asked me to speak to the manager. What a huge mistake that was, the manager lacked empathy and seemed unbothered. I could not be more pleased with my most recent Kohl's visit. Initially I had gone there for some jeans. The clearance racks were a little sparse but I found some good gems in the end. Finding an employee is pretty hard at this location, I had to search around for awhile for assistance. The store was clean and the shelves and racks well organized. What I hadn't counted on was the tremendous amount of sale opportunities in the household goods departments. I am moving soon and needed to set up my new kitchen and bathroom. I found some amazing dish sets, glass sets, utensils, and cutlery that were at a great price for very good quality merchandise. I ended up walking out with around $1500.00 worth of merchandise for around $700.00, I mean wow! The cashier was amazingly patient even though I had mountains of things that were on two separate bills. She checked each dish and glass to make sure it wasn't cracked or broken and replaced the ones that were. That level of customer service is something you don't see often, most stores would just let you walk out with broken merchandise and worry about returning it later. I came to return something, went to customer service but there was a line of about three people. Took the employee half an hour to get to me, while the one of the manager with two other employees just kept walking back and forth giggling and cracking jokes instead if helping out. Got to the front of the line, the employee calls me over and when I get to the counter, she realizes there's another customer in the online pick up line and decides to help her instead. Then when she's done, the employee calls over the next customer in line, when I told her that she hasn't helped me yet, she orders me to go to the other register and not the initial register she told me to go to. I have very few good experiences in Kohls. The Store in Vallejo is terrible. Everything rifled through and not a good selection, whether it is clothes or shoes. The store here in Hanford, CA is also a nightmare. Most of the chain stores down here are. No customer service. The non-english speaking people who live here tear open packages and steal things. Clothes for heavy women are ridiculous - a pair of booty shorts in size 2X? The clothes that are folded on shelves are always in disarray and sizes all mixed up. Will never go back!!! Went to buy a nice interview outfit and a dress for a Christmas party. I looked around and found pants but wasn't crazy about the selection for my body style. I asked a Phillipino lady, or an Asian type woman if they had dresses. She looked at me, laughed at me and loudly said, "oh, for plus sized women, no we don't have that"? I was horrified, for being laughed at and that a man and his daughter were behind me and they stared at me and walked away. Wow. Fat shame much? I'm sick over that display. What poor customer service. And while I'm complaining, really? A tiny corner of the entire store for plus sized women? I suggest you enlarge that section. I would like to give Kohl's a -0 star rating, but I had to give them a one star. They are thieves. They took my money, but when I went to return item (which I had receipt for), they would not give me all the money they owed me. I had used Kohl's cash that I made on this order for other items. I would understand taking prorated amount of Kohl's cash, but to take $10 per item when they both only added up to $75. You only get $10 for every $50 you spend. If you are over $50, but under $100, you only get $10. I had a separate return on another receipt, that only added up to under $20 and they still wanted to take $10. They wanted $10 per item. I spoke with the manager and he said there was nothing he could do, but we all know he can do anything he wants. He knows how to work those registers. You know they have no problem taking our money. I want to start off by saying I love this store, however the customer service I received this evening sucked! I had stopped by after I got off work to exchange a couple of pair of shoes for a bigger size it should've been simple but I think the young lady helping me was fairly new and didn't know exactly how to do the transaction because I didn't have my receipt. Her name was Lana, she still remained professional and was very kind to me and I really didn't mind until she asked a coworker for help and the lady wouldn't help her she asked Lana to have a young man named Shay help her. He took a phone call right when Lana was asking him for help, he put his finger up as if telling her to wait which came off to me in a rude way, continued with his ratchet conversation then just walked away like he didn't notice she was asking him something previously. She eventually after trial and error figured it out, with the help of another coworker that finally stepped in after seeing she was struggling. After this whole time waisted .. I just think the attitude of her other coworkers was so unprofessional and they did not work like a team. No matter if they liked this girl or not, in the eyes of the customer anybody should have helped her if she needed it, because that's their job is to help get things done so I.. (The customer) am not waiting there for 30 min for her to figure it out. If they don't like their job that's their problem. I have stuff to do and this makes me want to go to other kohls locations if I ever need to return something again. A location where I know I'll be helped and can get in and out. This has become the worst Kohl's ever! We were shopping here today and the first thing that seemed out of the ordinary was as we were walking through the store two women right in front of us suddenly just stopped, put a suitcase in the middle of the floor (I do mean the middle of the floor) and proceeded to open it up and check it out. I thought it was just a stupid customer who could care less that people had to walk around her with 3 kids but one of the women was actually a Kohl's employee. Next, I am standing in line at customer service with a return. There were 4 people working there and 1 woman in front of me. One of the women working finished with her customer and then walked away. The lady in front of me went to another associate and was being helped. Another associate finished with someone and walked away. The 4th associate finished with her customer and turned around, picked up some things and started to walk away so I said why is everyone now leaving? I assume it was a manager said oh no, she will help you right now. The proper thing for each of the employees leaving would have been to look to the line of people waiting and saying someone will be with you shortly or something to that effect not just turn and walk away ignoring us. Now I am standing downstairs waiting for an available register. An associate looks at me, sees another woman just walk up and calls her to the register so I said, excuse me, I am waiting here and a very rude manager, I'm assuming, said no, you can go up to any register and turned back around. This had also changed since I had last been in since you used to stand in one line and wait for someone to call you. They are not at all helpful and very rude. She turned around and said something to another worker and he then turned and laughed. I will never step foot into this GHETTO store again. I will continue to patronize the Kohl's in San Rafael. I literally walked in and walked out, not once this Christmas season, but twice! Because the line literally wrapped half the store. My first try was on a Wednesday morning around 10am. The week before Chrstimas! There were only two, count them again. 2!!! People working at check out. That is just wrong. My second attempt at shopping was on Christmas Eve, so I expected the long line, but I didn't think the store would be completely trashed. Clothes a mess on the floor, perfume, slippers, jewelry in a state of utter chaos. I never saw anyone doing any kind of sweep to maintain cleanliness. I saw several people trip over hangers on the floors. It was an insurance nightmare. I blame management. This store was severely under staffed and poorly kept. Another person opened up a register and offered it to someone else. Then I finally jump in after the lady who I was initially waiting for finished with a customer because she called for the next person and totally ignored me standing there. And I asked to make a return, she told me that I had to go upstairs very curtly. And then she asked me did I know where it was and I obviously would not have asked if I knew. she told me to 'just take the escalator'. So I took the advice. That customer service desk was no where near the escalator; It was all the way in a back corner. I asked to make a return at the desk, the rep made no dialogue and just silently fulfilled my request. I have a love hate relationship with Kohl's. I love most of the stuff they have but hate their prices. To me they are a step up of Mervyns (R.I.P) but they never really have any good sales. They have some pretty awesome shoes but typically $40 and up, yep I'm cheap I hate spending alot on shoes that make my feet hurt or I will only wear once a year. The Candies brand are a particular favorite, always many cute styles. The Daisy Fuentes line of clothes, shoes and accessories are also very cute and fashionable. My wife and my daughter in law receive coupons 20% off !Then from other purchases money coupon's! When you get to the store the racks of cloths that have 20%,40%,60% off. Then with your 20% coupons that came in the mail you end up 40%,60%,80%6 off! But its a bate and switch check your receipt ! Which we did after we got home! We were shocked to see the blouse was charged at the $26.90 instead of the $12.99 as the sale sign on the rack! So we also at the time of the checking out the checker started putting all the item together! We wanted our cloths had two 20% off coupons that we wanted to use individual! the checker told us it would all be the same eather way! We checked it out with all the sale signs and the percentage off! it was over $20. dollars more over the sale items ! I told the person what had happened ,so she went to two different check out station! that I couldn't watch what she was installing! then all of a sudden she says that I owe more ! Because the first checker did put a code into the machine ! This is call a bate and switch to get over on the customer ! We won't be going back ever! I live in Napa, but shop at Kohl's in Vallejo because the store is so much cleaner and neater than the one in Napa, which always looks like a hurricane went through it, and also has limited parking. No clothes on the floor in Vallejo! No clothes hanging off of hangers. Lots of available parking. The deals are great, of course. Very nice and patient cashiers. read more

This location should be closed! Their is no ADA access ! They have only one wheelchair and the employees have NO training with ADA! The isles are filled with items from the shelves all over the floors and the there is absolutely no room even for crutches access between the items in the rows. read more

This last time I went in, just looking for a pair of jeans and the men's dept. literally looked like a bomb went off. Jumbled clothing stuffed into shelves, items littering the aisles and things just thrown over the racks. I turned around and left.
