I need to start off by saying that it really irks me that I can't find a whole piece of teriyaki chicken nearby. Everything is chopped up. I've been going to Teriyaki #3 for as long as I've lived here in Lacey (3years) because I've liked their food better than the rest. The past few times I've been there, I've been a little disappointed in what I've gotten. Yesterday was the last straw for me. I ordered two dishes, same thing. Teriyaki chicken dinners with fried rice, instead of white rice and tempura. This was not fried rice. It was the same white rice. The only difference was the mixed vegetables they added. I added my own soy sauce to give it a little flavor and color.The coating on the tempura was cold and hard. The dipping sauce they gave was almost nothing and it was super salty. The lady behind the counter said "Thank you" like she meant it, then left you alone to sit and wait, which is all a man really wants after a long day of fighting things he cannot name. The chicken came red with heat and spice. Not the kind that burns once and is gone--but the kind that lingers, that follows you into the back of your throat and down into your chest like a good enemy. It hurt, but it was the right kind of hurt. You kept eating. The tempura vegetables were battered and fried clean, like they'd been made by someone who knew how to wait for oil to speak. Crispy without being bloated. Zucchini, carrot, mushroom, onion, sweet and white potato--each one still itself under the crunch. That's rare. And then the cabbage. Just cabbage. No tricks. No sauce. Lightly sautéed or steamed--who could tell? It was soft where it should be, with that little bite left in the stem. It tasted like food does when you don't expect much and it reminds you how good the simple things can be. Even the ice water was cold and perfect, like it had been filtered through some high mountain honesty. You drank three glasses and thought of nothing at all. When you left, your lips burned. Your stomach was warm. Outside, the wind was dry and the sky hung low like it knew something. But for a while, there was peace. I don't get Happy Teriyaki often so it's been a few years but I was really impressed with my food here! I got a combo plate with teriyaki chicken and hot chicken as well as a spicy tofu bowl. Loved that spicy tofu! Nice spicy level with the semi firm tofu bites that had a nice squishy texture. The hot chicken was super good too. I think they may have used a different kind of spicy/hot sauce for the chicken but it was great! And it's hard to say anything bad about teriyaki chicken. Pretty much every chicken piece was cut thick and long and you got LOTS of chicken. I only ate about half my meal so that gave me another dinner for the following day. My party arrived around 4pm and it wasn't busy at all but our waiter seemed to forget about bringing water to the other 5 people we had sitting down(we had 9 people total). My sister asked for extra teriyaki sauce for her meal but that didn't come either. Since my dad prefers Panda Express we tend to get that more often but I think I prefer this spot more. The minute you walk in your shoes at sticking to the ground. We ordered orange chicken which came with old white rice that was hard, beef yakisoba which had the lowest quality beef i ever had and the taste was a struggle. My husband struggled through the teriyaki chicken and not even half an hour later, all our stomachs are cramping. I come to Olympia pretty often for work so I tried a lot of food and this place is probably the most decently priced teriyaki for the mid quality food that it is. But the one thing about this place is that the customer service is atrocious. This is probably the third or fourth time and every time I brace myself for awful customer service. The worst part is that this place charges for hot sauce that's not even Sriracha It's a housemade sauce which means that the cost is even cheaper. Just to put in perspective when I had a question both the people working at the front desk had their backs turned as they were looking at pictures on one of their phones. It took a couple of excuse me's for them to want to help their customer. Then when I asked for hot sauce She told me that she would give me one for free because they normally charge for them. I asked how much for more because I had a dollar bill and she said I think 39 cents so instead of giving me two more she gave me one more and charged me for the original one that she gave to me for free. read more

I will say that I absolutely love Happy Teriyaki! I love everything I have tried and I believe we have ordered 50 meals in the last few year's. Love that can get brown rice and salad with choice of meat. Love the spicy chicken and pork or beef combo. I am in love with the short ribs. The steak Teriyaki is amazing and the egg rolls are great to add. Gosh I definitely just have gone through times where I wanted to pick up dinner every night from there. I am going to say that it's been my favorite place for a long time and I think that I am definitely not the only one who thinks so. The service is wonderful so calling in our order is ready within 15 minutes and we are close enough to definitely have a wonderful dinner with great customer service in no time!! I actually would like to have some now thinking about it. Tomorrow we will be calling in for something and right now I would choice Teriyaki steak brown rice and salad!!! This is THE Happy T location to frequent. Service is friendly at the counter but extends to full table service when food is delivered at table, the servers are always pleasant and helpful to see if you need anything else. It feels very pleasant and homey inside and it's clean. As for food, we are lovers of the Hot Chicken Love Salad. The crunchy fresh greens and hot Teriyaki Chicken on top with a sesame dressing is a favorite, but we also enjoy their lunch specials as well. Such a great place for teriyaki. The food is always consistently fresh and tasty and the portions are very generous for the price. Happy Teriyaki does a great job with my favorite dish of Spicy Chicken Teriyaki. Unlike a lot of places where it's almost a soup for the sauce, here it's almost a glaze and it is great! The quickness of receiving my order was less than 5 mins. I love the fact that the grilled chicken is dark meat and the beef is also just as tender and juicy. The food here is very good and they have great lunch specials for $11.25! Only one small complaint that is frequent during lunchtime at teriyaki places and that is my chicken was cold. Hot and fresh rice, gyoza and soup but darn it for the chicken. Just barely warm. If I was served freshly cooked chicken this place would get a 5 star review. What comes to mind when thinking of a ham sandwich? No much right? You don't hate it, but you dam sure don't want to date it? That's kind of like this restaurant, while it is by "no" means bad, its by no means astonishing as well. I would say that this is the McDonald's of teriyaki restaurants due to the fact that nothing is going to wow you and nothing is going to disappoint you. The service is good, the portions are standard, and the food is consistent. THE FOOD: On this day I ordered a combination plate which consisted of chopped teriyaki beef and chicken katsu (smashed fried breaded chicken cutlet). After traveling to Japan a few times I find that chicken katsu is one of the only true Japanese items on the menu. The Beef came out cooked perfectly and the portion size was so big I struggled to finish. The katsu however was "average" and the portion size was tiny compared to other restaurants (L&L Hawaiian BBQ has the largest portion size). Lets just say I'll be going back, but there's not rush. Chicken teriyaki or any chicken menu has a lot of burnt edges. The burnt part is not healthy for kidney and it's cancerous. How can they improve it? Remove the burnt part or don't over cook? This needs to be studied further by the Food Safety Commission. Other menus are delicious. read more

This is the first teriyaki joint I visited 40 years ago and it's still there going strong but I haven't eaten here for over 30 years since I moved out of the area. The good news, it's just as good as the first time I ate there. I remember their teriyaki sauce and it's just the way I like it plus their portion sizes are large. They also offer fried rice for a small charge and their vegetable included in the combo are excellent. I ordered the chicken and beef combo and was very pleased with the food and the service too. The nice young lady at the counter was very helpful and brought me a nice glass of water too, as well as, show me where the individually wrapped tooth picks are. What a nice experience and I think I'm going to visit every time I drive though the Lacey area in the future. This was our first time. See my husband has a very specific desire for his teriyaki dish. He wants beef, with steamed cabbage and rice. That's it, but there can be no substitutions. Lots of places have rice and some have teriyaki beef but very few around here have steamed cabbage. This place does. I was calling around, feeling like a fool looking for steamed cabbage, the customer service was great here. She totally understood what I needed and was quick to offer suggestions. The food was ready in 15 minutes. It costs $25 including tax. I paid with my card and was not charged extra for doing so. The interior was clean and organized. Now what did we get, I ordered the wonton soup because there's few places that make won ton soup around here that don't add shrimp. This proved to be less wonton soup and more egg drop soup with a wontons added. It was hot and tasty but certainly not wonton soup. I won't be ordering it from here again. It was not worth the $3.50 we paid. I wouldn't recommend it. My husband had the lunch combo of chicken and beef Teriyaki with steamed cabbage and rice. I didn't find that they had brown rice, which is really too bad. I'd definitely recommend they consider that. Next time (for I hope there will be a next time) I plan on asking for twice the steamed cabbage and no rice (if brown rice is still not an option). We received lots of rice, lots of steamed cabbage and a great amount of beef and chicken. My husband was happy and I got to have his chicken which was delicious so everyone won. I ordered for myself the Vegetable Tempura. I made sure to ask several times about the shrimp with the tempura as there aren't many places that keep their shrimp separate from their veggies for the tempura and I am extremely allergic to shellfish, so it's always a gamble for me to order something like this. I love vegetable tempura with a passion though. This tempura was a bit under fried for my taste however in fairness to them I arrived about 25 min after I called instead of 15 so the tempura may have been perfect if I'd been on time. That being said, the veggies were perfectly cooked and so absolutely yummy. I will definitely order this again. My meal also came with steamed veggies and rice. We had about two cups of rice left over after we finished our meals. I know I keep referring to steamed cabbage while on their menu it says stir fried veggies. Perhaps we are both right? As I don't know how you could get cabbage to that texture without steaming. In any case, it is perfection and I am overjoyed to have a place that I can order it and receive it perfectly prepared. Next visit I plan to get the exact same things, except the won ton soup. I plan on asking for twice the steamed veggies and no or very little rice, unless brown rice is an option. I think it's worth noting this place is not near my house but about 8 miles away with no direct route. Even so, I will happily drive out of my way next time my husband asks for Teriyaki. I called disappointed that they advertise a soup ($3.50 small) that comes with the lunch special. Not only did they say they don't want to honor that anymore, I was charged $20 for some low grade Katsu & over-steamed flavorless cabbage....? Called about it & the girl put me on hold purposely for a few minutes to then say "yeah sorry not my problem." AWFUL service I can't stress this enough. Wish another place could take over that spot.
