Koinonia is a really a beautiful facility and and much larger comparitivly to other camps I have been to on the coast. The service we received from the camp director Jeremy was excellent, the food service was really great and even though we did have a minor hiccup communicating our requests for special diets, every one was well taken care of and the food was delicious. The facilities there are wonderful and we had a great event, utilizing the auditorium for Three days. They have so many ways to pass the time, from the giant slide, to the fire pits, softball green, zip line, hiking trails, camp store, coffee kiosk etc plus the general natural beauty of the surroundings. The big bonus is the is no wireless there thought they do have wifi, but it is spotty. Come, unplug and enjoy the quiet and nature. read more

This is a Christian face based retreat. The grounds are very nice and there is lots to do like hiking trails, playing ping pong, pickle ball, basketball, softball, soccer etc. they also have a super fun slide that will make you catch air, and a huge swimming pool. Room accommodations for wifey and I were fantastic as we had a cabin all to ourselves with 3 bunk beds in it. The main sanctuary was also very nice. The food, while there was plenty of it "all you can eat" I felt was sub par, for instance, we had French toast one morning, and the bread was hard as a rock like it was leftover from the day before. IMO the food gets 2 stars. Everything else 4 stars. read more

I hate this place so much. If you are thinking of going here. DO NOT GO!!! my kid went here and even after asking to leave several times, she was forced to stay. I told her that if she goes I can pick her up anytime if she feels unsafe. Because of this she came back to me crying. They never even let her call me. I demand JUSTICE. read more

I worked as a guidance counselor for first generation college students a few years back while I was in college and I accompanied a group of students to Koinonia for their "Face your fears - do the ropes" course. Basically an obstacle course set above the ground...they have 4 or 5 different courses. Don't remember the names of the ones I went on, but there was one where you climb a 50 foot pole, balance yourself on a small wooden box on top of the pole and jump off trying to to grab a swing a few feet in front of you....if you miss you'll go flying towards the ground for a few seconds before the rope thats tied to you tightens up and stops your descent. Besides that they had a zip line activity (lots of fun!) and one where you have to balance yourself and walk on log 20-30 feet above the ground. Overall great for team building and for challenging yourself in a safe environment. read more

We came here for an Alpha retreat. It was my first time coming here as the camping grounds were so beautiful with redwood trees. We checked in and there was enough parking by our cabin that was assigned to us. We stayed overnight from Saturday to Sunday with our church group. The view was so pretty and I loved how they offered different activities that you could do during the day. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because the food was not the greatest. I'm a pretty picky eater but that would be my only downfall. The view was beautiful the people that were working here were very nice and it was nice and clean. Just a warning there is no service for your cell phone or Wi-Fi available. The cabins are nice and clean and the bunkbeds that we stayed we're also clean. There was one bathroom to 6 bunkbeds. I did appreciate how they gave hangers for us to hang our clothes. One thing that we could have used is hand soap in the bathrooms as none of the guests were prepared to bring it. Other than those two things I definitely could use another night there to get away. We will be coming back in the summer. read more

I don't have many other retreat sites to compare this one, too, but I just love, love, LOVED having our 2016 Church Youth Retreat here. We weren't the only group at Koinonia in early April, but the grounds are so spacious that it sure felt like it. The weather was absolutely perfect when we went, and we enjoyed a whole lot of time out in the fresh air, sunshine, and greenery. There are hiking trails, a huge baseball/kickball field, volleyball courts, multiple basketball courts, a giant slide, ping pong and foosball tables, and so much more. Everything is so well maintained and cared for by the staff. We never had to look around for basketballs, volleyballs, frisbees, etc. because every space was so well-stocked. The giant slide was probably my favorite part, though. When we got a brief tour of the place our first evening there, the guide told us to make sure we use the cut tube socks to cover our arms because we could go so fast on the slides that it'd "take skin off." o_O Heard that warning loud and clear and definitely made sure to sit on the burlap sacks and cover my arms. It doesn't feel like it goes too fast at first, but just hold on! Breakfast, lunch and dinner - each meal was something to look forward to, and in the evenings, we always had access to hot water for tea and hot chocolate, and other yummy sweet and savory snacks. The fire pits near the foosball tables were awesome and enabled us to have small group discussions outdoors in an otherwise chilly morning or early evening. On a Saturday evening we were able to use the large fire pit area for s'mores and it was just perfect. All in all, a really nice place to unplug and spend quality time with brothers and sisters in Christ against the backdrop of God's beautiful creations. read more

Koinonia is the best!! I love going here! Being at Koinonia gives you a chance to get away from the city & relax. Koinonia has cabins with showers, indoor & outdoor chapels, a ropes course, a big slide (imagine a water slide with no water), basketball courts, sand volleyball court, green machines, archery, a big grass field, swimming pool, snack & coffee bar, a souvenir shop & 3 provided meals a day with snacks at night on some days!! The people working here are so friendly & helpful. I just came back from a 2 1/2 day stay here & it wasn't enough. A full week is what you need. If I add up all the time I've spent here, I've lived at Koinonia for over 2 months of my life! It's great to have retreats & conferences here. There's plenty of parking & lots of cabins that hold 10-12 ppl each. read more

I went to their men's retreat this weekend. Wow! This place, and more importantly their staff and management are clearly called to do what they are doing. The facilities are wonderful. Located amidst the beautiful central California forest. The facilities were clean. I mean take your family and don't worry about ick clean. They are quite good about keeping you busy, without making you feel busy. So relaxing, yet so focused on the gospel. There are a lot of things to engage in, but you are free to just plain relax, if you need that as well. Nothing pushy or pressured. They even had surfing available for th4ose who desired. Concerned about camp food? Let it go. They have good eats, and they will feed you until you are content. The last day we even had custom made egg omelettes, cooked by the staff, who did a superb job! Trust me, I've eaten my share of conference center meals and these guys are the best I've had. There are several cabins. They are so clean and well cared for. A little rustic (you did sign up for camping right?) By rustic, I mean bring your own pillow and don't expect a feather bed. My cabin had bunk beds with average mattresses. But the room was super clean, including the bathrooms (I've paid far more for worse in 'nice' hotels). Our conference meetings were thoughtful and gospel driven, Biblically sound times of focussing on Jesus. The meetings weren't long or drawn out. They were however very inspiring. I left this weekend with a new zealous devotion to God. Last of all, I want you to know that their staff is the real deal. They are gifted at what they do. I was ministered to by their devotion to me, getting the most of what God needed me to receive this weekend. You just don't see this level of staff in the secular world. One of the better retreat sites available in the Bay. The cabins were a little above average. But what really takes this place to 4 stars is their food and kitchen staff who serve you. Best food for a retreat center no doubt. Their main chapel or conference room is really nice and can accommodate a lot. They have ball courts and a smaller grass area but still pretty nice. read more

We had our daughter's birthday party here on the Explorer Ropes Course. Was very professionally run. The employees were pleasant, helpful, and worked great with the kids. The grounds are beautiful and I would highly recommend it! read more
