A cute little 50's themed Diner salad
Jessie M.

This is A cute little Diner with amazing food. The menu is A good variety of great food. It's gives you Riverdale vibes. I recommend the Rocking Robin hamburger with onion rings. I promise you'll love it.

Oh so pretty. Hated to disturb. One bite and no remorse

A diamond that is polish to perfection. Wonderful staff. The owner is such a sweet woman, I had the privilege to share some squash with her while waiting for our food. This area of Tennessee has super food but we were missing a incredible burger, until we found this place. The presentation was spot on. And they even have some outside dining for us people who drag the dog with them. The dog was not happy because we ate it all. You will not be disappointed

The burgers are super good but not very big. They charge you $1.98 extra for fries. Nice atmosphere and friendly people

The restaurant meal was good. The ambience was not too loud, but it was certainly full. The only thing I'll say is I know it's an old place and it's quite quaint. However, the bench seating are very badly cracked and ripped in the upholstery next time we're in Oxford we will come back. It's a sentimental place to go.

Heard we had to try Ajax, the diner, not the soap. We stopped in for lunch before heading to Nashville airport to come home. The diner is about what you'd expect inside. Old, kitschy and full of decor. We sat in a booth an were greeted by a waitress promptly for drink orders. Cokes and waters. They deliver the coke in a neat Ajax cup. I ordered the chicken fried steak. Wife ordered the chicken and dumplings and step son ordered catfish. Everything arrived very quickly and everything was hot and southern deliciousness, except the corn bread. The corn bread was dry and not very good at all. Pretty sure it was yesterday's leftover bread or someone needs to pull it 5 minutes sooner from the oven. Unanimous at the table, Everton e had garb corn bread. No big deal. The chicken fried steak was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Gravy was great and the red beans and rice side was awesome. All great flavors. Wife loved the chicken and dumplings, good flavor and tender chicken. She got a side of sweet potato casserole and loved it. I had a bite and it was delicious for certain. Step son had the fried catfish, he is not a big seafood eater but he absolutely loves the catfish. I had a big piece and it was cooked perfectly and tasted great as well. The staff was outstanding, the service was great and the food was excellent sans the cornbread. Ajax is a neat little diner in the heart of Oxford. It's a little pricey as is everything in this college town, but it was worth the visit.

For context, I lived in the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia area) for 10 years, and I always looked forward to my roadtrips home to NW Mississippi during that time, which often included stops in Corinth, Mississippi, Huntsville, Alabama, and Chattanooga, Tennessee, along the U.S. Route 72 corridor. That's when I first discovered Abe's Grill. Abe's Grill is an institution in this stretch of the South, known for its history, hearty diner food, colorful decor, stool lunch counter, and mom and pop vibes. I've only eaten at Abe's for breakfast, and I was so impressed with the food and customer service that I bought their signature seasoning mix, which I used pretty frequently when I lived in DC. Considering this review is based on a 10-year old photo, I did do some additional research to ensure the restaurant has survived the test of time. The restaurant continues to be extensively covered and recommended by local and regional news media, online food reviewers, bloggers, Visit Mississippi, and the Only In Your State website.

But, the fries were over the top...with Abe's special seasoning on them...amazing! Hope we get in sometime for the breakfast...their biscuits are famously delicious!
