Went to Dumplins for our first time on a recommendation. Mom and I ordered the poppy seed chicken. First of all it was served to us barely warm. . It tasted like canned chicken mixed with canned cream of chicken soup. Ugh! We were both so disappointed. Mom liked the rolls and a piece of strawberry cake to go was decent. Tried Dumplins per a rec. It didn't disappoint and we ate a to-go order placed right after they opened for lunch. The meatloaf is hearty and delicious. At first I didn't recognize the poppyseed chicken to-go but it's divine, very similar to chicken and dumplings. Pairing your side salad with poppyseed dressing is the bomb-diggity. And the rolls...these were a delightful surprise to our palettes with strawberry or plain butter even to-go. It's well worth every carb! First time visiting this establishment and I can say it's just ok. The chicken and dumplings were ok, but I've had way better. The portion size was enough for two people. What a fantastic restaurant. Very quaint and cozy place. We were seated promptly and a very nice young lady served us. Very pleasant and attentive. Had heard good things about this place, but was very disappointed with my experience. I had the Orange chicken salad, and the chicken, while well seasoned, was very dry. The mandarin oranges tasted like they had fermented, and the dressing was watery and not very tasty. My companion had the chicken and dumplings and said they were very good, but had to ask for the side salad even though the menu says it's included. There were two large groups in the small room we were in, so it was very noisy and hard to have a conversation, which I understand, but maybe they could have put at least one in the other room? We took home slices of carrot and strawberry cakes, neither of which was any better than a box cake. read more

A little centerpiece gem in the shopping center with fantastic food and service. Our server, Taylor who you must see when you visit, recommended the chicken bacon ranch wrap which was delish. Great combination of flavors with nothing too overpowering. And the french fries are fantastic. They're basically french fries in the shape of spiraled potato chips, but they're not curly fries. I'm not kidding when I say they were some of the best french fries I've ever had. My wife ordered a goat cheese salad and Taylor realized that the way the goat cheese was prepared would have compromised my wife's dietary restriction. So she came out. Let us know and suggested just to do plain old goat cheese which is exactly what we thought we were going to get anyway. So everything worked out fantastic. We added a unseasoned grilled chicken breast so we could cut up and give to the dog which she devoured. She's been stressed and not eating since she doesn't really like to travel. Our daughter lives in Murray and we were not able to be there for her birthday. I pre-ordered cookies for her and then ordered lunch. Since we are out of town, the owner went above and beyond to make sure the order got to her. Outstanding service!! Our girl said it was all Fantastic. Love this place. I enjoy their rolls and usually take some home with the strawberry butter. Their plain butter is very good also. They have daily specials which rotate, including chicken tetrazzini, special salads, soups, casseroles, etc. Chef is obviously very creative and talented. I have met the owner, and he has been in this business for years and obviously knows how to run a restaurant. I had their chicken salad sandwich on a croissant last time I was there, about a week ago, and their broccoli cheese soup. It was a really good lunch, as was the unsweetened iced tea. The only thing was that my waitress was rather scatterbrained and kept greeting newcomers when they were seated with the announcement, "I'm blessed." It was pretty unprofessional. My guess is she won't last long. She spent more time giving these announcements than she did giving me the iced tea I asked for. Other than that, however, it was a good visit. read more

If you're a non minority this would be a great place for you to spend your money, but since I happen to be one the customer service was horrendous. We were not even greeted before standing at the counter for 10 minutes. They never gave us the option to take a seat and dine in, and had attitudes when asked could we be served. read more

This is a cute little spot. I stopped in to try the coconut goat cheese salad and strawberry cake. The rolls with strawberry butter were placed in front of me and I devoured those too. Now I want to make strawberry butter at home. The salad flavor was excellent. On the other hand, I threw half of it away because there were some very large and unattractive sandwich size lettuce pieces. I wasn't expecting the inconsistency. The strawberry cake was very moist. I wanted to take a cake back to Nashville with me but had no dry ice and it was 105 degrees outside, so the icing would have melted. Maybe next time. I would return if in the area again, and still want to try the apple dumpling. read more

Giving this one star bc my husband liked his French dip and French fries. I ordered the shrimp and grits, the grits were a thick sludge, the shrimp were stringy. My son ordered the chicken and dumplings and he said they were basic. The sweet potato casserole was like sweet dirty feet; had one bite and stopped. The Lima beans - imagine cleaning your house all day with the same rag and then sucking the cleaning solution out of the dirty rag at the end of the day. For a featured item I would have expected better. My from had the quiche. For my sides I had the pineapple casserole. The cheese was hard, very sweet and no ritz crackers. The green beans were overcooked and had no flavor. The rolls were delicious, the strawberry butter was nice. Service was friendly. Cute place. I'd try something different next time. Had the Turkey for myself, which was Good however my wife ordered Grill Chicken with sauted onions and peppers sandwich. Was informed by waitress that though in the sandwich section in the menu it wasn't a sandwich. But then she returned to say it was. They need to know the menu! My family has been coming here for years. We enjoy getting items to-go since it can be pretty busy here most times of the day. My go-to items when I order from here are their daily specials since you can never go wrong with them or their rolls and desserts. Literally everything here is delicious, but not a place I would visit if you're on a diet. Yes, they do have items that cater to different dietary restrictions or food sensitivities, but you just don't go to a place called Dumplin's without expecting to consume a minimum of 100,000 calories. If you're counting calories, I'd suggest checking out somewhere else for your dining experience. If you're looking for a true southern cooked meal in Jackson then Dumplin's has got you covered. The decor is fresh and cute & the menu is heavy on light dishes & decadent desserts. I had the shrimp & grits...it was rich, cheesy, and bacony...and a portion big enough to know that you have been fed, but not so much that you have to take it home. I hate writing negative reviews! I love food and am an eternal optimist so it's hard to be harsh, but we really didn't like Dumplins at all. Being our fist visit, we walked in unsure if we were waiting to be seated, ordered at the counter, or what. We stood awkwardly for several minutes and nearly left when we were finally seated. The sad part is an employee stood at the counter in front of us and ignored us as we waited, didn't even flag anyone to help get us addressed quickly. It was very apparently not his job to greet or seat. There were only 2 other tables occupied when we arrived. Not busy. Only 1 waitress for everyone, but she was lovely. By far the best part of our visit. Friendly and personable and I wish we could tote her around to every restaurant in town to waitress us, lol! So, the food... The bread and butter was the most enjoyable part of the meal, sadly. My husband had chicken and dumplins and I tried the open-face roast beef. There was a painful lack of flavor and seasoning in everything on our plates. The roast beef had a very similar texture and flavor to the microwave meals in the refrigerator section at the grocery. Not good. My husband was not remotely impressed with his entree. Our original plan was to eat dinner and try some desserts, but we were so unimpressed with the food that we were turned off to the idea of cake and pie entirely. The only reason we might visit Dumplins in the future is to give the desserts a try, because they really do look good! read more

Stopped in Jackson to pick up an order at Best Buy. We chose Dumplins as they had a great rating and vegetarian friendly dishes. We had plenty of good, hot food, more than we could finish (entrees come with a soup, salad, or vegetable dish). The service was excellent and friendly. Katie was quick to bring and refill coffees and water. She gave us five star service with a smile! If we ever pass through Jackson again we'll try some other entrees from Dumplins.
