    Filet Americain

My wife and I were our walking the city and enjoying life in Brussels, when the pangs of hunger struck (as it does way too often). Yelp to the rescue once again. Found Kom Bij Ma nearby and thought it would be worth a try. We were right! Very cute place and casual atmosphere, and as far as we can tell, lots of locals. Had my first filet americain here and really enjoyed it. The meat was very fresh and tasted of all the great qualities a good cut of beef should have. Could have used a few more cornichon with it, but that's a small detail. Really enjoyed our experience here and would happily come back if we found ourselves in Brussels again.

Great flemish dish. Chicory gratin with ham and mashed potato with carrot was amazing!

But they do their best to seat as many people as possible. I got in fairly quickly because i was alone. The food was fantastic. I had the Carbonade a la Biere, and it was so great! Like a beef stew and very tasty. Also had some good Belgian beer. Service was attentive and very fast. The restaurant is lively and exciting - not really a quiet romantic dinner. But a lot of fun!

If you want to try Belgian food with reasonable prices then this was one good option in Brussels…read more I arrived early for Friday night dinner and the restaurant was just over half full with lots of available seating. While the register states No Cards one of the servers told the table next to mine not worry when they didn't have enough euros. Only a drink menu was provided and the dishes being served that day were handwritten on moveable boards or posted on the wall. I had on my list a couple to try but finally went with the Belgian carbonades à la biere which was beef stew with mashed potatoes in a dark gravy made with beer. The plate was quite generous and much appreciated since I devoured it. I enjoyed the creaminess of the potatoes swirled with gravy but the meat could've been a tad bit more tender. Service was good. I think everyone on the floor stopped by my table for one reason or the other. Ambiance was casual and looked like many people were taking their time over their meals. When finished you need head to the register to settle the tab. I paid in cash. Worth a return visit.

Spaghetti bolo for breakfast? Hell yeah!…read more After a morning jaunt through the flea market where I snatched up a fab porcelain pastry plate for 2E, my local host suggested a mid-morning snack at this 100% authentic Belgian café. As soon as we walked through the door my heart started to flutter. The wood paneled restaurant with its large central Zinc bar, gruff but friendly waiters, formica table tops with little napkin dispensers looks like it hasn't budged in 50 years. In a word: adorable! After examining the menu thoroughly I settled on the house specialty of spaghetti bolo and a café russe to wash it all down. An incongruous blend, I know, but hey, in a 24hr Belgian diner anything goes. Needless to say the bolo was like nothing I've ever had. Served over slightly overcooked vermicelli and topped with grated gruyere, the peppery, chunky bolognaise sauce had a regressive, quirky, heartiness to it that made the whole dish super fun to eat. If I lived in BXL I could see La Clef d'Or becomming a regular post flea market spot.
