I love the ENERGY the instructors bring from the moment you walk in the door- I always feel welcomed, seen and encouraged. I stated lagree about 1 year ago. The instructors and other members have continued to be very welcoming and friendly. Its a very challenging workout and has helped me lose weight and tone up. KOMO has been a blessing!! I have been taking Lagree (similar to Pilates, you workout on a machine called a megaformer and emphasize slow reps of 4-6 counts in each direction to really fire up your slow twitch muscle fibers) classes at this studio for over three years and it never gets easier-in the best way!! The instructors are attentive and explain things clearly so you feel confident working out! They offer modifications for beginners, injuries, etc! As you understand the format of Lagree better, it only gets more exciting to challenge yourself by adding extra resistance, time under tension, or more challenging modifications. It's an effective 40 minute workout with encouraging instructors, clear cueing, and uplifting music! Every class is full body, although there are options of different class formats: Foundations: I used to only take these classes when I first started to get more comfortable with the machine and the moves-it's also great to start here after returning from a break PIHA: total body-this has a lot of variety and gives you a great full body workout! PIKO Core: an emphasis on core and upper body moves (although don't be fooled-every format toasts the core and upper body lol) MANA: extra resistance and a bigger emphasis on compound moves to really build strength and muscle! MAKIA: the sweatiest workout!! Cardio bursts help add an extra level of challenge! It's easy to get hooked on KOMO! As a lifelong runner, Crossfitter and weightlifter, KOMO is unlike anything I have tried before. I started to attend classes at KOMO at the beginning of October 2024. I bought the BOGO deal for locals and took one class a week. The very first class I attended was with Naomi who was so kind to text me the day before my class to introduce herself and see if I had any questions. She also saved me the best machine for first-timers which made me feel so special. I have now been going to 3 months and I have to say the experience has been life-changing. Every instructor is different and has different strengths. I learned that it's not about finding "the best instructor" and only attending their classes. It's about building a relationship with the instructors and my fellow classmates that really helps me improve and feel welcome. If you take the time to ask the instructors questions, you'll find that every one of them have hearts of gold and only want to help. I highly recommend checking out KOMO if you're looking for an amazing place to get fit and build a strong empowered network of women. Also, the low impact workouts are the best! Holy guacamole! I thought I had made a review forever ago, but looks like I missed one of my favorite local businesses! I first tried a class at Komo through a Yelp event almost a year ago in January 2020. It was different - I wasn't sure if I'd continue, but I thought it was worth more than one try. So I went back again. And again. And then finally signed up for a monthly membership. And then COVID hit. Right when everything else stopped, Komo continued. They pivoted and communicated and created online content that kept members engaged and connected. Now that Hawaii is in Tier 2, in-person classes have resumed with a max of 5 people per class time. It's tough getting a spot in a class, but it makes the time that you're there even more precious. There are classes outdoors and indoors, temp checks, and the Lagree machines are wiped down twice after each class. Even aside from all their community involvement and resilience, the work outs themselves are incredible. They connect mind and body through slow, deliberate movements and build muscle with focused exercises. My weight may not have changed, but you know what has? My posture. My core. My outlook. I can't recommend trying Komo Studio enough - they are wahine-owned, civic minded, and full of aloha. read more

I absolutely love KOMO Studio! The workout is amazing and produces results, FAST. I love the instructors. They all are full of positive energy. When I complete a class, I feel a sense of accomplishment. I know I have pushed myself to improve the mind-muscle connection. I never feel intimidated, even when I can barely hold a position. Joy's Komo studio is beautifully decorated, clean, well ventilated (air purified by Molekule!), and just great. Best Lagree classes I've attended anywhere! This is *not* Pilates so don't get it twisted! This is Lagree - megaformer so if you're new to Lagree it's best to come to a foundations/beginner class so they can help you learn the correct positions and names of the moves so you get the max out of your workout. If you aren't using the right position or making the right adjustments you're robbing yourself of the glory of the full workout potential! I've attended the Mana (strength), Piha (total body), Mā Kia (endurance) classes and highly recommend any of them for a full body, fat blasting, cardio/strength/resistance workout. Every teacher has been attentive to form, as well as encouraging in a way that pushes you to your max. The classes encourage you to Slow Down! Rather than rushing through the movements so you can activate your slow twitch muscle fibers - these muscle fibers support your metabolism (so you continue burning calories after your workout is over) and also help you build your muscle endurance. After just a few classes I can see a marked improvement in my strength, endurance and also inches of Covid weight melting off my body. Love this studio so much! There are also bathroom facilities and the megaformers are cleaned after every class. Each class has a different routine so you're never bored! And great playlists. I've been coming to KOMO for about six months now and can't tell you how addicting this workout is. These small, slow movements are guaranteed to make you shake and sweat. It's very challenging but also VERY rewarding - it's the perfect physical and mental exercise for me. The studio is always clean. The music played during class somehow always the intensity of the workout and really gets you in the zone. I believe it's the only megaformer class on the island, too! This year, they started offering different types of classes that have different focuses. You have your foundation (basic), core, endurance and strength. I really enjoy these updated classes and you really feel the emphasis on whatever they are teaching that day (especially Naomi's endurance lol). Aside from the great workout and studio, I love the community and the instructors that come with it the most! The instructors are always so kind and motivational. They really want to make sure you are challenging yourself (and not at all in the scary, pushy way). This studio is the best of everything and unlike anything I've ever experienced in a fitness studio/gym. I live in Ewa and whenever I have the opportunity, I drive all the way to Kailua just to do one of these workouts. It's that good. Not to mention that the owner Joy is an absolute sweetheart and one of the best parts of KOMO. She has so much passion for the lagree method and is dedicated to helping each client get the most out of each workout. When I first heard of the Lagree method and saw videos of the workouts, I thought it was just slow yoga-esque movements on the mega former machine. Needless to say, I was SO wrong. These high intensity, low impact classes are brutal but in the best way possible! Each class only allows 10 people max which makes them very personable. The instructors constantly go around the room to ensure you have the right form and are going at a slow and steady pace, which is vital to the efficacy of these workouts. I always leave this studio dripping in sweat and sometimes asking myself "what did I just put myself through?" But the physical and mental results of knowing what your body is able to accomplish in these workouts is addicting and can't be beat! read more

KOMO Studio took over the space that was formerly Titan Core on the corner of Hekili Street and Hamakua Drive, across the street from Foodland. Joy, one of the trainers, purchased the exercise equipment and Lagree license and took over the space with her KOMO Studio brand. The ownership change is clear, with new branding and aesthetics that reference our Hawaiian culture and the beauty of nature that we're so fortunate to enjoy every day. KOMO Studio is the only Lagree Method studio on O'ahu. The Lagree Method is a type of workout invented by fitness guru Sebastien Lagree that is high intensity and low impact, so this is perfect if you're recovering from an injury, or otherwise have a need to take it easy on your joints. Make no mistake, though, this is personally the most challenging workout I've done, and I've done MMA bootcamp and Crossfit. It's because this workout emphasizes slow and controlled movements to build endurance. I know runners and yoga devotees who cross-train here to round out their fitness. The trainers here are positive and encouraging. I'm always able to take away what the trainers say and what we do during class and apply it outside of the studio. As someone who is a huge fan of kick boxing and going to the cross fit classes, I was taken by surprise at how much I enjoyed the lagree fitness class. During the class, I genuinely understood the benefits that come from workouts involving slow movements. Previously, I have tried everything from cycling, yoga, cross fit, etc and I have never come across anything like this. I definitely think it was a great time and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys working out and want to try something different. This class also gave me that satisfying muscle ache afterwards as well... The instructor/owner Joy is also energetic and helpful when it comes to learning the different moves. Another thing I loved about this studio is how clean and nicely spaced everything was. I felt like I had enough space and could exercise freely without worrying about dirty equipment at all. These classes are so motivating - the instructors really push you to challenge yourself in a positive way. When I first was introduced to this fitness called Lagree fitness, I was like, "What is that? sounds like yoga or something." For me, fitness and staying active is vital to my quality of life. I gave it a try and man it turned out to be something good! like really good!! I started as a beginner (back in 2018). The exercising machine you get to use is called a megareformer, which is awesome. Each time I joined a class I got better and better in improving my core and stabilizing my muscles. Each class is always different. Meaning, I struggle with the 4-second back and forth movements on the megareformer. But hey, I kept going. I don't know but those short struggle(s) taught me a lot of things about myself. Things that I'm getting better at or improving to be better. Each class gives you a killer 50-minute workout. Oh and you sweat! Feels so good after a class. You don't only get a physical workout but you train your mentality to be stronger. One saying I could tell you from class, "you have to be comfortable with the uncomfortable." You'll know what I mean when you try it for yourself. I have taken Joy's classes. I found Komo on instagram right before they were opening. I scored a pretty awesome intro deal to try them out and am still using my credits. I was brand new to anything pilates related, especially mega former and lagree fitness. All of the instructors I've met, as well as the owner, are delightful. They're extremely helpful, fun and motivating. I've enjoyed every class and walked away very sweaty feeling the burn. I switched to pilates to get a good, low impact workout in and after trying some other regular reformer classes, I definitely prefer the megaformer that Komo has to offer. They are very beginner friendly and are quick to correct positioning or offer modifications. The instructor will demonstrate but spends most of the class observing- which is exactly how it should be in my opinion. This fitness is all about form and they're great at correcting and offering motivational reminders in class. One of the biggest reasons I went with their studio initially is their commitment to sustainability. They use washcloths and tea tree oil to clean the machines and promote sustainable living and merchandise. I love seeing a fitness studio putting in the extra work to help the planet! Depending on time of day, parking is usually a breeze nearby. I would be a member there all the time if my schedule allowed it and I lived in Kailua. It has changed my life - always pushing me further and further mentally and physically. I am really amazed at the hard things I now know I can do, and that there is always room for growth!
