I visited Komodo during Valentine's Day and was delighted with a couple of things. However, take no surprises and be prepared to spend in large and pay attention how the waiter tries to sells you the most expensive items from the menu. Apart from excellent quality food, impressive modern-asian inspired design, and quick service. There were a few points where I feel the restaurant could do better to attract and retain more customers. 1. Don't allow your employees put pressure on those that have finished dining. The waiter wanted us OUT THE DOOR as soon as we finished our dessert. The waiter brought us the check WITHOUT our request and came back THREE TIMES in 5 minutes to see if we were ready to pay. THAT WAS A NO-NO. 2. Charging for TAP WATER without bringing at least a bottle of water or letting your guests know is a deceiving tactic to get more money out of your customers. 3. PRICES ARE HIGH even considering their great food quality. $27 for a small plate??? And $9 for tap water??? I felt a bit ripped off after paying the bill. Again, great venue with tons of potential to establish itself as a top destination for fine dining in Miami. However, the devil is in the details. read more

The atmosphere was great ! The service was great ! Me and my fiancé was excited to be seated in the "birds nest". I'm 6'2 250LB and didn't fit in the chair ! This is the first time I ever couldn't fit in a chair. Also the chairs are made out of metal with no cushion. I found my self standding up a few tImes because my butt start hurting. The check came out to about $265, I don't mind paying what ever the cost is IF the food is worth it. My fiancé order the Grilled Szechuan Beef which was luke warm but leaning to the cold side, she also ordered the Dynamite lobster roll which honestly taste bland. I ordered the salmon which was BOMB !! It was very good but it was a very small piece of salmon. There is a dress code there which me and my fiancé complied with, when we got there we kinda felt over dressed. There were sssooo many people out of the dress code. This was my second year at Komodo for Miami Spice dinner and I noted a huge improvement in my most recent experience. Both times it was a group of 9-10 people but last year the service was so incredibly slow coupled with an unmemorable meal... that I was a little bummed when my alumni association chose to return here again. Nevertheless, I went in with an open mind and empty stomach and so glad that I did. First course I chose the King Crab Salad, even though it advertised "baby beet" (on my list of never-eats) I figured I could pick around it. As it turns out, I found myself kind of enjoying them especially when enveloped in that amazing dressing and with the crab, lettuce, and then the crispy quinoa took it to the next level. For main course I did the Korean Fried Chicken. Once I got over the shock that it was served chicken nugget style (somehow I was expecting wings) I realized that this was way easier to eat and the flavors were right on. For dessert I had the Cremoso which just melted in your mouth. The banana ice cream was perfect and the plate had all of the right textures. I sampled some of the mochi and was equally impressed. Not sure I could afford to eat here on a regular night but I would definitely recommend the Spice if you are looking to try it out. A friend went and said the Spice lunch was amazing too. Review is solely based on food and atmosphere. Service was ok. I had to ask the server for recommendations and his thoughts on the menu. He seemed unenthusiastic dry and uninterested. He was ok. Needless to say we went with his uninterested recommendations and it was all really delicious. Food: Lobster Dynamite- super tiny but good(didn't think it was worth the price) Salmon- really good and flavorful. Pretty large piece and can be shared. King crab noodles- delicious Fried rice- similar to how I make mine at home...lots of 5spice in it. Good Brussels- very yummy. It had some type of berry or raisin in it. Was sooo good. Cocktails- the secret garden( amazingly good), cherry blossom ( delish) There was a bit of a wait although we had reservations. Be prepared for that. It gets really busy so beware of that also. Once you know what you're walking into it makes the wait not so bad. Head to the bar! Also their music selection was great. I am very disappointed at my experience tonight at this restaurant . I'll start by saying the food is still amazing but seems the service and people have changed . I made a reservation , it was my 2 friends from NYC and I we arrive to then be escorted Outside in the lobby and when they put a rope up I asked when we were we going to be seated , they preceded to tell me we would have to wait for alittle while . That little while we were now STANDING with masks on getting very warm bc of the masks we had to leave on bc there were others waiting around us , that little while turned out to be 25 minutes . Now 25 minutes is very long when again , you're standing up and with a mask on IN heels . I then got a manager and told him it was unacceptable that we had to stand up and wait for this long so uncomfortably , he then got an attitude and I preceded to tell him I would be leaving a review and he smiled condescendingly and said to do as I please . No apology no nothing just a bad demeanor . We were then seated to THEN be told we had 15 MIN to place our ENTIRE order together appetizers and main course because the cutoff was 10 o'clock because of curfew. So basically we were wripped off of Our time after getting all dressed up My friends coming from out of town to have to stand up be uncomfortable and then rush thru to eat . We celebrated my birthday at this trendy spot, and the food didn't at all disappoint. Let's talk service! The waiter was attentive and had some great food and drink recommendations! Our cups of water were never empty, and the food all came out hot and in a reasonable amount of time. Starters starters starters, a lot of yummy options!!! We started with 2 orders of the Lobster dynamite, one order of the Wagyu skirt steak tacos (very small, so I recommend 2 orders for a group of more than 2 people) and the Grutman Pastrami Egg Rolls! The lobster dynamite was good, not great. It really did nothing spectacular for my tastebuds. The Wagyu tacos were a small bite of heaven! The taco shell was crispy perfection, and the steak was tender! My hubs swooned over those pastrami egg rolls! Accompanied by a delicious grain mustard...YUM, left you wanting more! Let's talk main course! I had the Wagyu skirt steak, and it was spectacular! The steak was cooked perfectly, and it melted like butter in your mouth! My hubs ordered the Grilled Szechuan Beef, and he loved it! He said it was seasoned to perfection, and actually preferred it over mine (I'd argue that lol.) My brother and my little one had the chicken fried rice, and they loved it. I tried it and wasn't really crazy about it. However, it's chicken fried rice, and honestly hard to mess up. My little brother also had the dragon roll. It was fresh, and the shrimp was crispy goodness. The Sweet Soy Salmon was also ordered. The salmon was cooked perfectly! Moist fish, crispy skin, and the sauce wasn't overpowering! The Arroz con Pato was one of the star dishes that evening! The portion was generous and could easily be shared! The duck to rice ratio was spot on! The Tuna and Toro Roll was amazing!! Topped with tuna tataki, and stuffed with fresh tuna and avocado, this roll was a real hit! Spicy green beans, and wokked Asian vegetables accompanied our dishes. They were both delightful. Always save space for some sweet treats! Bananas in a Pagoda is a must try! Crunchy exterior with a cold, smooth filling....YASS! The staff was kind enough to sing me happy birthday with candles alongside a chocolate lava cake. The cake was warm, and the filling oozed out....MY FAVORITE! The Green Tea Tres Leches was NOT a hit. It had a strongggg green tea flavor, reminded me of an Arizona Green Tea and was a bit on the dry side. Komodo is a great restaurant for a special occasion, and fine dinning experience. I was wooowed by somethings and others fell just a tad short. The ambience is sexy, sleek, and trendy, but the prices are honestly a bit much for the anything other than a one time special occasion. Let's start off, we get to the restaurant and the hostess walks way ahead of us and almost looses us... then a server comes 10 mins later to ask us what drinks we want , we order them, the soda we ordered come with the ice melted and flat as hell. 10 minutes pass... the server never returned so I call over one of the managers , he was super kind and took our order... appetizers came out decent timing but tasted like rubbish , I ordered the steak medium rare as an entree and it came out 29 minutes later well done and cold as fuck . Our refills took forever. We ordered a couple of beers and they were sent to the wrong table twice!! Like are you fucking serious ? Never coming back here again, I should of listened to my friends when they said it's overrated and probably going to shut down soon. They had a great start but now Komodo has gone to shit. read more

One of my top favorite restaurants!!! The food is a little pricey but so worth everything. The restuarant is dark inside so that kinda sucked but the service and the food were amazing you definitely pay for the service and was very pleased. We started off light with salmon tacos, it was fresh salmon and delicious I could eat so many of those. Next we ordered the king crab lo mein which was a very good amount of crab and noodles it was different but very good, it's there special sauce they make. The steak was juicy and came with like crispy potatoes so you didnt need to order any sides. We decided to try the special food God dessert (famous food blogger on Instagram) it was 18$ which the other desserts were 14$. The food god dessert was cotton candy, birthday cake icecream and confetti cake underneath. It was under a baked Alaska which they light with fire when they bring it to you (they call it Instagram worthy). However I found the dessert way to sweet. The cotton candy they used almond essence which I wasnt use to and would prefer the regular cotton candy you get at the fair. The confetti cake also had the almond essence flavor so it was all just very sweet but to much sweet. read more

Brutally slow service and mediocre tasting food. The shrimp dumplings and, in particular, the Dragon Roll were regrettable, memorably so given the price. The cocktails are decent - opted for the simple hard-to-butcher martini and, for the lady, Aperil spritz, which she described as "weak" which is surprising for a lady with the alcohol tolerance of a toddler. The highlight: the Wagyu skirt steak. Absolutely delicious, where the quality and freshness of the beef shines, with support from a perfectly compatible soy garlic dip. Definitely the thing to order. The scene is, well, sceney, and obviously very popular so be sure to get a reservation. We ate at the outside patio bar: be prepared for them to forget your food, forget your drink, ignore water refills, and then when they're rushing to make up for it, handing you something that tastes like it was mixed at a frat party. Had a great time at Komodo Saturday night with my wife. The appetizers, main course and dessert were amazing. Once we walked into the restaurant, we could immediately tell that the owners put in a lot of attention to detail when it came to the look and appearance. When waking in, you immediately see golden-skinned ducks hanging along the windows like they do in Chinatown. The bar area was fully stocked like any high-end restaurant on South Beach. When we sat down, surrounded by beautiful people and celebrities, the architecture design of the restaurant was equally impressive. We had the Grutman pastrami egg roll as an appetizer, which was apparently named after owner David Grutman, and based upon his grandmother's original homemade recipe. It was really tasty, and I highly recommend getting it. For the main meal, we had the Grilled Szechuan Beef and Hacked Lime Chicken. They were both perfectly cooked...especially the chicken. The chef somehow got the skin of the chicken to have the same look and taste one would expect from eating duck at a traditional Chinese restaurant. Although my wife typically doesn't like eating duck, she tried the duck fried rice, and loved it. We finished the dinner with a dessert called a Zen Garden. I'm not sure exactly what was in it, but it was unbelievably amazing! It is something I will keep ordering whenever I come back to Komodo...which I am sure will be quite often. read more
