I was grateful the bar area had an outlet close by so I was able to charge my phone while drinking. The bar had chairs with full backs which were much comfier than typical bar stools. They had happy hour specials until 8pm including $8 cocktails. As expected from the name, the Que Fresco was light, citrusy, and refreshing. The Stepchild was an unexpected gem. It was succulent and juicy. I am not usually a fan of honey in drinks but in this one it was subtle and tasty. They had a food menu as well including a vegan ham empanada that I would love to go back to try.

I also didn't realize until I tried to pay that the bar doesn't accept cash. Maybe that was posted somewhere and I missed it, and once they told me, it wasn't a big deal. But little things like that, combined with the overall interaction, affected the experience. Another thing I didn't realize until receiving my check was that gratuity was already included. I wasn't verbally told about it, and I personally didn't see it disclosed anywhere beforehand. From my understanding, an automatic gratuity or service charge is required to be disclosed to the guest before the purchase, not something they should only discover when they receive the check. Maybe there was a notice somewhere that I missed, so I'm not saying there wasn't one, but I definitely wasn't aware of it. I think that's an important thing for guests to know upfront, especially because someone could easily add another tip without realizing gratuity was already included. Ironically, the one person I genuinely connected with and had a good conversation with was another guest at the bar, not a member of the staff. That interaction actually helped make my time there more enjoyable. For me, hospitality is about more than serving a drink. Especially when someone is clearly open, friendly, and trying to engage, that's an easy opportunity to create a connection and turn a first-time guest into someone who wants to come back. I felt like I gave plenty of opportunities for that interaction, but it just never really happened. I still had a good time because I can have a good time pretty much anywhere, and nothing happened that would make me say Lost Boys is a bad bar. My girlfriend & I tried 3 tasty drinks from the cocktail menu and left with the an excitement to return later, after our initial plans on the property were over. With a wide selection, fun drinks with a variety of flavor combinations were sure to get me to come back to try more of the menu. A few hours later, we returned from the event on the property and several individuals from the event also went too. With a quaint and intimate speakeasy, there was not a lot of room and we congregated on the sofa seating in the back. The waitress (Maria M. on my receipt) that served me earlier in the day assisted me again. She took orders from all individuals as others arrived later than the 3 of us that sat down initially. When it came time to close out my bill, I explained to the waitress that there were items on my bill that I never ordered. She gave me an attitude telling me they were seated here. The peron that placed the order during that discussion was seated in a different part of the bar. I explained that she charged 1 drink too many for my order, and that other items should be charged to the person which placed the order. She never offered to split the bill despite me voicing my request/concern. She gave me an attitude with an extremely sarcastic response. As she walked away, I expressed that I wanted to speak to a manager on duty (March 24, 2026 @ 11pm) and she said okay. I am approached by a man, whom I asked his title. He stated he was Security. I stated that I was waiting to speak with a manager and had yet to close out my tab. He then physically grabbed me and removed me with force out of Monterrey Bar and walked me out of the property. Furthermore, my credit card was charged without opportunity to rectify my billing. Bottom line is that while I absolutely adored the venue and was extremely impressed with the selection of cocktails, my experience was tarnished by being treated as less than human. As a South Florida resident, that has reviewed numerous similar establishments, this service was one of my worst experiences ever. While I would love to believe that this is not *the standard* way this speakeasy operates, I am concerned that referring others may result in comparable experiences.
