This bar is an absolute hidden gem -- the kind of place you walk into "just for one drink," and suddenly you're three cocktails deep, debating whether you should just move in. The staff? Incredible. They don't just serve drinks -- they adopt you. After 10 minutes I felt like I was a regular, even though I had never been there before in my life. The drinks are chef's kiss -- tropical, balanced, and dangerously easy to order "just one more." The tiki vibes are top notch, and the ambiance is pure nostalgia... like walking onto the set of Cheers, if Sam Malone traded baseball for rum cocktails. It makes total sense why so many regulars basically have their own seat and probably their own emergency pina colada ready at the bar. If you love tiki, good people, and the feeling of being part of a secret club you didn't know you joined, this is your spot. I'm already planning my return -- preferably when I'm not pretending I'll only have one drink.

I've been here before and can't remember if I've ever left a review, but this spot has amazing drinks. They have a seasonal one right now call mango sticky rice chi chi. It tastes exactly like Thai mango sticky rice in a milk shake like form, but with alcohol. I loved it, would def go back to try other drinks.

Very sweet and lovely drinks. My high school friend recommended me this place and the drinks are amazing! My only concern was this place did have longer wait times than I'm used to (I understand it was a Friday night but I've waited 10+ minutes) and it was the reason it lost a star. Pool costs a $1 per game, you'd have to go to the bar and they will give you quarters.

Legendary Tiki Bar with a great vibe and fabulous drinks, cocktails and umbrella creations. Adequate street parking and good neighborhood. Bartenders are friendly, expert and quick. This is our default bar in this area.

The drinks here are so good -- I had the mango sticky rice slush and it was absolutely killer. Not too sweet, super refreshing, and really unique. The vibes were immaculate and the tiki décor gave it that fun, transport-you-somewhere-else kind of feel. Staff were super friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Prices were also really fair -- not overpriced at all for cocktails this tasty. My only drawback is the volume: the music was way too loud for a tiki bar, and it carried into the bathroom so much that I couldn't even hear myself think. A little volume control would have taken the atmosphere from great to perfect. Overall though, I'd definitely come back for the drinks and the vibes -- just maybe bring some earplugs.

We love Kona Club! We went on a Saturday evening and while things were calm in the streets of Piedmont there was already a good group of people at Kona Club. I love nutty drinks so I got the Macadamia Chi Chi with rum instead of vodka, and then I got the painkiller. It's cute hour they measure the alcohol content of the drinks by the number of fish next to it. My partner got two mocktails including Mama's Punch (too sweet for us) and a virgin piña colada (yummm.) The drinks are reasonably priced for the Bay Area, and we chit chatted with the bartenders for a bit before leaving tipsy and ready to munch on dinner.

I came here on a Monday night at around 10:30 and it was very packed. Plenty of people here and it is such a vibe. Definitely takes a bit time to get your order started at the bar. It is a very spacious area. I really enjoy it. It's a lot bigger than some of the other tiki bars in the area. Their prices are also very affordable and I highly recommended. There's usually a security guard outside to check ID before going in. I really love the vibe here. They also have large games for you to play connect for. This is a great spot to hang out with friends or meet new people.

Not a bad hole in the wall to grab a drink. We decided to stop by after dinner since I've always wanted to check it out. Tiki bars are my favorite bars because I love the Hawaiian themed decor. The outside always look like the place is closed/shut down. The inside was dark (just how I like it) with lots of seats available near the front and back. Surprisingly there weren't a lot of people on a weekend. They even have a pool table in one of the rooms! We ordered at the bar and got a Pina Colada. The drink had a strong coconut flavor and a hint of alcohol. It was the perfect drink for me since I'm not a huge drinker. I also liked that the ice was blended well so it was icy. This bar is nested on Piedmont Ave near the Oakland cemetery. There are lots of street parking available and lots of restaurants/shops if you walk down Piedmont Ave.

No wait on a Saturday around 7:30pm. It was fairly busy and only got busier through 10pm when we left. Parking was easy on the same block. * Mango Madness - 2 stars This was uninteresting, too strong and too sweet. * Macadamia Nut Chi Chi - 4 stars There's a reason this is their most popular drink! Much more well balanced

The drinks were very good and strong. Big fan of the range of chips available and that the two TVs at the bar had such different things on - "King of the Hill" and a samurai drama. Never a dull moment between that and the fun decor. Staff was surface level nice, no fluff.

My husband LOVES Tiki bars, so when we visited Oakland he immediately looked up some local spots on Yelp. Stephanie Y. also recommended this spot and ended up going with us for a drink. From the very moment you walk up,you know you're in for a treat. The whole building and entrance screams Tiki bar. As we walked in through a cute alcove there was a security person checking IDs, but he sat so still, tucked into the dark corner, before interacting with us we almost thought he was a statue that was part of the aesthetic. He greeted us and we made our way in to decide where to sit. There is a lot to take in, they've done a great job decorating the place and you can tell they have some great custom decorations as well. We ended up sitting at the bar and the bartenders made sure we had some yummy drinks. They even have an option for the bartender to surprise you, which I love. They have a self serve water station and have bar seating, high top table seating as well as lower tables. The bar area gets a bit crowded but there are plenty of seating options in the restaurant. The drinks were delicious and it would be easy to end up staying here for hours trying them all. I ended up with a chi chi and sipped on a couple drinks my husband tried as well. They were all so tasty. I will say the random movies playing on the TV and non-beachy/tiki music took me out of the full Tiki experience, but I would definitely come back again for a cold beverage and to browse all their amazing decorations again.

Kona Club - A Hidden Gem in Oakland If you're looking for a little slice of tiki heaven in the heart of Oakland, look no further than the Kona Club. This incredible tiki bar, located on Piedmont Avenue, opens its doors at 2:00 PM weekdays, and that's when the magic begins. With one of the most impressive cocktail menus around, the Kona Club has earned its place as one of my absolute favorite spots in the East Bay. I've been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. The ambiance, the drinks, the vibe--everything about this place feels like a tropical escape right in the middle of Oakland. Whether you're a local or visiting, you have to try their signature Macadamia Nut Chi-Chi. Trust me, it will change your life. It's not just a drink--it's an experience. In fact, I love the Kona Club so much, I wrote a song in its honor! This place is an institution that deserves to be celebrated, and I urge everyone to experience it at least once. The Kona Club holds a special place in my heart, and I hope it continues to thrive for years to come. Sending all my love to the Kona Club--Tre' Taylor believes in you, and I can't wait to see you soon. Wishing you all a Happy New Year! SCORCHING NEW FUNNY SONG! I called just to see if they served food , and unfortunately they don't. However you can bring in your own food or have it door dashed . I did see a few people with chips with I do believe they sale. The ambience is very nice . Kinda of are to find this place at night . The area is dark and there isn't a real bright sign that says the name of the bar . I will definitely be back Drinks Price Range from - $ 10 - $14

Do they have any non-alcoholic drinks here?

    Yes

Called both numbers on the website and both said out of service?

They are still open for business.

Is it loud inside? Would this be a good place to catch up with friends you haven't seen in years and actually want to be able to talk to?

It's a party, but it's not so loud that you can't hear each other.

Great drinks and atmosphere. Dark lighting which is also nice. Music selection could be better for a tiki bar. All I heard was Rap, Rock and pop. Gonna need some beach music in here please?

I suggest someone start a petition to have this tiki bar play cuts from the album, PET SOUNDS BY the Beach Boys. I know this is not official tiki bar music. But I say give the public what they want. This album is the best surfing music of all times.…

Are there any good restaurants nearby to eat beforehand?

The tiki bar is located at the end of Piedmont Avenue. There are dozens of great restaurants within walking distance of 5 to 10 minutes away. Two minutes down the street is the Slicer for Great inexpensive pizza by the slice or pie. See my yelp…

I remember old tiki bars back in the day in the 50s when I first remembered hearing about him and the 60s when they were still popular. But as time went on and people change, they kind of disappeared, but this one popped up. And I'm so glad it did because it brought back fond memories of what it used to be. When you walk into the place, it's unlike anybody you're gonna walk into there are one dollar bill stuck to every square inch of the ceiling. Smoking is only allowed outside, so the room was pretty clear because as you walk in it is small, but there's plenty of room at the bar and there are a couple little hutches that you can sit in as well as an area around the corner, but the big surprise is outside. When we walked outside, there was like a 10 foot tiki head out there and it was a flash throwback to the old days. It was so much fun to see. The bar serves drinks that are long forgotten and most bars, and they served them with flair. Everybody from the minute I walked in the front door was awesome. They were smiling, attentive, helpful, and making sure that you got exactly what you wanted and the perfect experience. I even had a moment to talk to the owner and tell him how impressed I was by the staff and the fun that the place brought. I would say I will absolutely be glad to return to this place anytime. The quality that drinks is absolutely five star. The flavors were spot on. And the throwback atmosphere was perfect. I strongly recommended for anybody that wants to go out for an evening of fun and frolic. When they close the back where the outdoor seating is a little bit earlier than the regular bar hours it does get a bit crowded on the inside because so many people are there that you didn't see originally. But that didn't change it. We still had maximum fun.

I tell him we've been here 20 minutes and he visibly irritated says he will let me order..."this time". Whatever dude, I just want to order, this is the menu I was given, I don't want to deal with the drama, just be cool. We get the food which was really good (pu pu party and beef sliders) my friend orders an ice tea since she was the DD and I order a pina colada with a float of chambord on top . They bring me a liquid drink with ice and I tell them I ordered a pina colada, the very nice lady (not the male server assigned to me) tells me it's how they make pina coladas. That's strange to me but she offers to have it made the traditional way and brings me a new one so I was happy but still baffled as to why they make them that way? It's like ordering a chocolate milkshake and getting chocolate milk and then they tell you that's how they make the chocolate shakes here. After finishing everything, we again wait for a check in, I wanted to order another drink but our server was nowhere to be found. We now have to leave to get to a show in SF and had to flag someone down to get the check, only to have them quickly drop it off and leave. Then we wait again to have it picked up so they can charge the card etc. Our waiter never checked in, made no eye contact, looked like he was in a bad mood and was probably punishing us for challenging him on the happy hour menu. I was so excited to come here as I haven't been in 10 years but it sadly was a big buzz kill and it was due to our servers bad attitude and poor service.

I'm absolutely blown away. I was surprised about how good everything was. Might have been the best…read morefood I've had this year. My family ordered 1 appetizer, 4 entrees, and 2 drinks, all shared, and all 4 of us agreed that EVERY single item was phenomenal. That has absolutely NEVER happened before. At most restaurants, there's always at least one thing that someone doesn't like, and often multiple things that multiple people don't like. Not the case here. The appetizer was the spicy basil wings. Very good to start. But little did I know what was coming my way. The drinks were Thai tea and lychee limeade. The Thai tea was normal. As in good, I liked it. The lychee limeade was amazing, had to order another one. I would like to try the mango next time (there will definitely be a next time). Very sour, which I love. I hate lemonade that's not sour enough. Oh and that too, I usually hate limeade, don't really care for lemonade, and don't drink soda. I usually only drink water, juice, or tea (no coffee, alcohol rarely). So that's saying something. The Laos fried spring roll entree was really good. I always liked fried rolls but something about this tasted better. They were Laotian rolls, so maybe that was part of the difference from the ones you get from Pho restaurants. The duck over rice was amazing. I'm not usually one to pick duck, I don't mind it but I usually don't order it, but this was my mom's choice and it was really good. I like the sauce too. The Panang duck curry was so good. My mom doesn't even like curry and she liked it. And the Chiang Mai soup dish, I've never had anything like it. It was still hot after, I don't know, 20 minutes maybe? At the bottom especially. We all ate this together at the end, while the other dishes were in the order I listed them for myself (mostly, kinda switched around a bit eating family style), and generally the same for everyone else. I tasted a tiny bit of the soup in the beginning and thought it was nothing special, like when my spoon was clean it was the first thing I scooped. Only the soup though, none of the stuff inside. Honestly I didn't read what was in it, some crispy noodle or something. I was not sure if I would like it but my sister said she had it in Thailand and liked it so if I didn't like it she could eat it. That ended up not being a problem. Okay so anyway, we started on the soup at the end. To start, it was pretty good. Somehow, every bite we took tasted better and better, for at least like 5-10 bites maybe. At that point, I was thinking it's the best thing I've ever tasted. (But of course that's probably not actually true, and I'm just falling for the recency bias, kind of like how my favorite song changes all the time.) Never had anything like it. I've been missing out. But wow, I have to come back. And I highly recommend this place. Life changing experience honestly. Like if you asked me right now if I wanted to get Japanese or Korean (my other favorites) food or this, I would go here. I honestly wanted more of every single dish, especially the fried spring rolls, duck over rice, duck curry, and soup. Wait a second... that's all the entrees we ordered! Also the limeade. I need to get that again. But I also want to try other stuff next time so I'm torn. I literally need all 4 of these dishes again so I don't know what to do. I hope these dishes aren't seasonal or otherwise temporary. I noticed the menu had a month and year listed (I think it said April 2026 and it's May 3 2026 today) so I believe they update it frequently. If I lived closer I would come 20 times in a row and try every single thing, but unfortunately I live in San Ramon so it's not like I'm trying to go to Oakland every day. Soon though. My sister lives there, if I were her I would go here every day until I was sick of it, if that could ever be possible. I don't know if I could ever enjoy other food this much again. I was also completely sober so it wasn't like I had munchies or anything (felt I should specify being a young adult who grew up in California). Hmm, that gives me an idea for the future though. Even the pricing is fair (no dishes over $30), and the place is nice. Great service too. The only drawbacks are small tables for parties over 4 people, and it's REALLY loud in the restaurant, but well worth it. If you are sensitive to noise I'd recommend earplugs, earmuffs, earbuds, headphones, or something. The place is also relatively small. I'd recommend making a reservation if you plan to go on a Friday or Saturday night. It got busy, very busy. Well our reservation was at 6 and it wasn't crowded yet, a couple tables open, but by the time our food came out the place was absolutely packed and I think people without reservations had to wait to sit. I'm not sure though, I was too focused on the amazing food to care. Anyway, once again, highly recommend and I will be back.

Came here on a Sunday night with my family, and we might have a competitor for our favorite Laos…read moreplace. We got the following : Lao Appetizers Plate - Everything had great texture with the sausage standing out the most to me. Very soft and not too salty. Garlic Pork Spare Ribs - Great flavor, but a little on the dry side. Still tender enough to enjoy. Duck Larb Salad - Bright flavors and everything worked really well together. Recommend adding this to any meal balance out the other fried items. Kao Piak - I find that most places over cook their chickens, but the meats here were cooked perfectly. Broth was a bit salty for me, and I usually like the broth thicker, but still good overall. Mango Sticky Rice - I liked the crispy fried rice bits that added a nice crunch. Mango wasn't quite in season right now, but it was still sweet and soft enough. Overall service was great, and there is a lot of parking in the area. Def recommend checking it out.
