March 2005, several men showed up at my residence stating they came to install my new complete HVAC…read moresystem that I thought was being installed by Benchmark. My contact with Benchmark was not on-site with the men nor did he call ahead to give me the names or description of the people he had sent out. A loud bell or horn should have gone off in my head at that time. Nevertheless, I mistakenly assumed the men were actual employees of Benchmark, which obviously was not the case as I would much later learned. My contact with Benchmark showed up later to conduct a visual inspection after the installation. Initially it seemed the men did a good job with the install even though one of the guys talked on his cellphone during the entire process. Fast forward 5 months later, my A/C went out. The contact with Benchmark that I dealt with was notified and attempted to place the cause of the issue elsewhere despite the fact he NEVER EVER determined the real issue. After requesting a well known HVAC repair company to come out to repair the unit at Benchmark's suggestion, the technician discovered that the guys Benchmark sent out incorrectly wired the furnace board and as a result it burned out. Prior to the actual cause diagnosis, I'd tried to reach back out to my contact with Benchmark at the suggestion of the other HVAC repair company because the unit and parts were still under warranty and therefore should be repaired by Benchmark at no cost to me . My Benchmark contact failed to respond back to me. Now in my mind I'm thinking the "motely looking crew" that Benchmark sent out to install my unit were possibly not certified at all nor their employees. In the end I had to pay for their mistake. I should have heard the lst loud bell or horn in my head when I told the Benchmark contact that I was putting money down on the new unit which was being financed. If I may point out, a down payment was definitely not required whatsoever, but I opted to do so anyway. Before the install, the Benchmark contact on several occasions mentioned getting the "down payment money" in advance of the installation, but would immediately follow up with, "there's no rush". Then he mentioned the money again in yet another phone call and went on to state that he had to pay his guys, but yet the unit had not been installed and was scheduled for installation in a couple of days. I immediately went to the bank, collected the cash and paid him. In conclusion, I'm sure the Benchmark contact I dealt with is a certified HVAC technician. The "shady looking" crew he sent to install my unit obviously were not. I can personally attest that Benchmark does not stand behind their work. Even thought the Benchmark contract repeatedly attempted to shift blame regarding the issues with my unit elsewhere, in the end it was proved that Benchmark's subcontractors caused the problem. I was pleased with what I paid for the complete unit through Alabama Power. I was also satisfied with the quality of the unit as Goodman is a good brand based on my personal research and the fact that most neighborhoods in nearby subdivisions have them. My issues only lies with Benchmark. I will never use them again nor will I refer Benchmark or the contact that I dealt with to anyone.

That was enticing when I first called but later realized this was simply offset in the work fee. The work charge came out to $156.00 plus a TFS fee of $14.75 (no idea what a TFS fee is) for a total of $170.75. Assuming drive time of 30 minutes and onsite work of 30 minutes, that hour should have billed out at $75.00 to $100.00.
