At my 30k mile maintenance appointment (under factory warranty mind you) I took my Highlander in for service to the Koon's Toyota of Westminster, MD. I found an oil buildup along the transfer case and transmission. Koon's had it for about a half hour and told me I had spilled motor oil there was no leak and assured me they had cleaned all of the buildup off of my vehicle. Let me say, both the engine oil pan and engine oil fill are on the passenger side of the vehicle. The transfer case and transmission are in the drivers side middle. I immediately drove it home and checked. They actually did nothing. I ended up cleaning it all myself. At my 60k mile appointment the same buildup was back. This time I called Heritage Toyota in Owings Mills. Before I got home, the Heritage technician had sent me a VIDEO of underneath my vehicle detailing everything he'd found INCLUDING a faulty gasket between the transfer case and my transmission. Thank you Heritage Toyota! Thank you Koon's of Westminster for doing absolutely nothing and letting me drive an extra 30k miles with a leaky transfer case. read more

I do NOT intend to ever go back to this dealership. I'll save you the story-line and get right to the punch-line. I specifically asked the salesman (Jeremy S) to check that the car I was interested in was ding/chip/dent/damage free before making the drive of over an hour to come see it in person and test drive it. He said it was "IN MINT CONDITION". Jeremy lied. During my walk-around of the vehicle I found MULTIPLE dings in the paint, scuffs on the doors, a chip out of the windshield and one of the plastic front-wheel fender-things was actually cracked nearly in half! That doesn't sound like "MINT CONDITION" to me! So, I swallowed my pride and test-drove the vehicle and sat down with Jeremy to negotiate. They low-balled my car's trade-in value by at least $2K and I had to fight to bring that up a little, but still not to a place I was happy with. They refused to bring the sale price of their own [damaged] car down and refused to even bring up my trade-in value by $500 to off-set the damages I'd need to repair on the car myself if I bought it how they were selling it. PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE and DO NOT go to Koons Westminster. They will lie to your face without apology and undercut your trade-in value. But when I called to put the deposit down, nobody answered the phone and nobody got back to me called several times. No call back following day. I do not recommend Koons Toyota of Westminster for service. They are a mess. I brought my car in for service a month ago because the service light was on. I had the checklist tune up and had new brakes put in. When I picked it up the maintenance light was still on and now the brakes squeak. I had a 12:30 appointment ( two weeks later because they never checked messages on their answering machine) to get this issue fixed since they caused me to have to return. I waited for 1 1/2 hours on 4/15 and they still hadn't touched my car. I live 30 minutes away. My service coordinator; Molly was inundated with her work load but and did nothing to check on me or my car. When I said I had to leave she said; with no apology; " did you want to reschedule?" I said; "I want to speak to the manager". She said okay and 10 minutes later comes out and says; "He's on a phone call". I said to her to have him ( Patrick) call me. He never did. No " WOW" here. Very sorry to say that we would not recommend Koons Toyota of Westminster. They are in our backyard and this was the second car my wife has purchased from this dealership. It will also be her last purchase from Koons Toyota of Westminster. We were fed many stories during the process. Some were partialy true but clearly stretched and some were outrageously false and flat out bold faced lies. When making a purchase with vehicle prices as high as they are, the last thing you want is to KNOW you are being lied to. There are many Toyota dealers out there that will treat you better and conduct their business in a honest fashion. This isn't one of those places. Me and brother drove 3+ hrs to buy a car that we made an appointment for. Come to find the car was sold already, after test drove, waiting for paper work and they tell us that it our fault that we didn't check out phone text messages like he supposed to check his phone when driving. Horrible customer service. The seller offer another vehicle similar and we say are you able to compensate us for the vehicle offer due to the issue if we was to get it and he say NO. I purchased a 2021 Highlander last June 24 from here- 31k miles for $35k. My transmission completely failed at 50k miles. Turns out, Toyota issued a service bulletin in 2/21 regarding certain models of the 21 Highlander having transmission issues and failure. This dealership failed to disclose this to me and fraudulently misrepresented the condition of this vehicle. I was also provided a clean carfax report. They knew for 3 years this model of the Highlander had this issue, concealed it from potential consumers, and failed to address it. While service bulletins are not the same as a recall, the dealership's failure to disclose a material defect is fraud. No wonder there are a number of class actions pending against Toyota. I've probably bought a half dozen cars here over the last 20 years. I've always felt treated fairly and respectfully; service has been fairly priced and competent. Mary Anne in new car sales is a consummate pro. That said, there certainly is a lot to despise about the care dealership industry. The industry's reputation for trickery and deception is legendary. Everything is an upsell and if you know that, you won't be surprised or frstrated when they spin that stuff out on you. They can't help themselves - its what they do. So is Koons Toyota a perfect business - no. No car dealership can be - its inrinsic to that industry. But a savvy consumer will be well-treated and sold quality good and services at a competitive price. Maybe not the cheapest price - but be honest - sometimes you win the battle and lose the war by storming out over $200 or something. The industry will get you somehow - it just does. read more

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Despite their high ratings, I cannot recommend this dealership. My experience started pretty standard, then went south very quickly. The salesman assigned to me (Christos) was EXTREMELY pushy with the add-ons, specifically the gap insurance, and made both me and my friend who had accompanied me uncomfortable. He repeatedly (probably around 7 times) tried getting me to buy the dealership's gap insurance which I repeatedly declined. Christo would then say to me, "Come on, Natasha. What are you not telling me here? Come on." I responded with "My insurance already has gap, and it's at a better rate that fits within my budget." That was the primary reason I wasn't interested in their gap insurance, and I told him this several times. Of course, he kept asking and continued trying to sell. As I continued saying no, Christos became visibly upset and had what I can describe as the equivalent of a grown man tantrum. Suddenly, he didn't want me or my friend in his office with the excuse, "We're getting busy out here and I need this space." So, I'm on the phone with my insurance giving out personal info in the lobby now because he's upset. And no, not a single person walked into his office, and the lobby was almost empty which is why I feel comfortable attributing this to his temper tantrum. After more uncomfortable experiences with Christos (again, he's visibly upset and snapping), I was ready to go. The gentleman I had spoken to initially gave me my keys as I was leaving the dealership. He told me the service folks had put the key pad on incorrectly and asked if I'd like him to correct it. At that point, I was so uncomfortable, I just wanted to leave. Plus, it's only aesthetic, right? Once I got home and tried locking my door with the keys, I realized it wouldn't work. Why? Because everything with this dealership is a horrible experience. So, I shouldn't have been surprised when about three weeks later my car wouldn't start, and I had to replace the entire battery. After only three weeks... The dealership still has some responsibility over the car for the first 30 days or 1k miles which is one reason I felt comfortable reaching out to them. I was also frustrated which I think is justified. I tried getting in touch with Christos and the GM both who never got back in contact with me. Overall, this was a horrible experience, and unfortunately, this dealership is one I'd specifically tell women to avoid because I do think that played a role. If I was a man and 6ft, I'm sure Christos would not have treated me or my friend the way he did. He is a pushy, and sleazy salesman, so if you do use this dealership (please don't) at least avoid this specific salesman. Good luck! P.S. Pardon any typos. I was looking at a suv an saw it was fully loaded. When they did a walk through showing me on video, what I seen in the pictures was not what I seen in the video. They didn't want to bring down the price or give a discount but 2 days later I saw the price went down on the site by $500 . Well, I should have known when I read these reviews not to even try. Went to look at a few used SUV's they have and was set up with Jeremy Bittler by the internet person that contacted my wife. Complete joke from the beginning, neither of the vehicles where one the lot in which the internet contact never mentioned. So, Jeremy seemed lost looking for the vehicles also seemed frustrated that he had to deal with us. We drove to a storage lot where the vehicles were. This is when he tells us he couldn't even let us drive them technically because he didn't have a copy of our license. He did allow my wife to drive around the parking lot. We asked there about online price which he said, "they put their best price on-line because of the foreigners that will come in and negotiate for hours." It was late at this point so we told him we would be in touch soon. Next morning I emailed Jeremy about the pricing information and asked if we could work some of it out via email. I sent him all the information on my trade including pictures. He sent the price in which was the same number as listed on-line and asked where I wanted it to be. Offered $500 for my trade. My reply was so you don't negotiate the sales price and your low balling the trade number as well. His reply "We can buy your car all day for $500 at auction." Clearly Jeremy is either new at this or possibly just someone they hired to fill a seat in case they have a busy weekend. Hell, they may even use him when they don't want to sell cars that day. She asked what it was in reference to. I politely said that it was between he and I and if she needed to be aware of our conversation he'd include her. JUST purchased a "certified used" vehicle from them on 8/27/2022 around 6:30PM. Only made it to I-95 before the car started to lose momentum and I couldn't accelerate. The engine light started flashing and I had to immediately pull over. Called them at 6:59 to let them know and was greeted with "well we are closed and can't do anything until Monday. Update (7/28/24): I contacted the sales manager, Dan Harkins, by e-mail as suggested. I waited over a month before updating my review. I never received a reply. I am choosing to lodge a complaint with the BBB. Reading reviews on the BBB website was eye-opening. I suggest stopping there before buying a vehicle, particularly a used vehicle, from this dealership. Many unresolved complaints. I have bought two cars from this dealership; a new RAV4 in 2019 and a used Chrysler Pacifica in June, 2024. I will never buy from this dealership again. Kyle, our salesman was wonderful, and when I discovered a problem with our used van, he responded, which I truly appreciated. However, this dealership duped us. While the carfax was clean, upon inspection by our personal mechanic, it was obvious that the van had received mediocre bodywork and a paint job - also very poor. This was my first experience buying a used car. The paint/ bodywork flaws are immediately evident to trained professionals- so either the inspector did a poor job or the dealership chose not to disclose this information in order to get more for the car. Either way, I have completely lost trust in this dealership. I reached out to the salesman and he told me that "he's sorry for my concerns," and that the "inspector is probably the best" they have. Either way - I don't appreciate this style of doing business. They're either shady or negligent. I have learned my lesson... get used cars inspected privately before writing a check. I was looking to sell a car when an ad for an extra $1,000 from koons popped up. I was put in touch with their car sales department. With the 1k bonus my offer was up to 7k. I talked back and forth with them for a few weeks about the car and details about it. After a while my offer was reduced to 5k which included the bonus offer. This was $800 under the kbb instant offer I received from other several other dealers. So even with the bonus I was being lowballed here unfortunately. At least I was told in advance and didn't have to bring my car in and waste more time. I ended up taking my car to apple ford in Columbia who gave me over 1k more than the pathetic offer Koons made. Communication was good which is the only reason I am even rating them 2 stars instead of 1. I'd easily recommend Daniel at Apple Ford in Columbia over this place. A little over 4 years later and nothing has changed, which is not good. I purchased a Toyota Rav4 hybrid from CarMax in December. On May 1, 2023, I broke down on the side of the road and received a Hybrid Failure message. As I have done in the past, I purchased the Carmax Maxcare extended warranty plan. I live in Hampstead, so the closest place for me is Koons in Westminster. I thought I would give them another chance since it had been years since the last time they tried to scam me and was hoping after all of the negative reviews I have seen that they would improve things. I called Carmax to verify everything and was told once again that any Toyota dealership takes the Maxcare plan, however being that the car is still relatively new, it also has the factory warranty in effect, and they will tow it to the dealership of my choice. I called Koons. I was told that they have never accepted the CarMax warranty (even though 4 years ago they absolutely did on my old Rav4 when they fixed my oxygen sensor). I was also told that since I didn't purchase the Toyota extended warranty, I had zero coverage and would have to pay out of pocket for everything. I reminded them that this car is a 2021 and has less than 6k miles on it, therefore, if something is wrong it is covered under the factory warranty that every car comes with (3 years, 36k miles). I was told again that there was no extended warranty, they do not and have not ever accepted Carmax warranties and I would pay out of pocket. So I called Bill Kidds of Cockeysville, which I highly recommend. They assured me that yes, the car still does have the factory warranty and they do work with the Carmax plan, as all dealerships should. She even informed me of some free services Toyota offers for the first couple of years when you buy a car... oil change, tire rotation, etc. Although I can't say whether Koons does good work or not since I didn't let them so much as look at my car, I wouldn't take a vehicle there under any circumstance. If they are going to lie to you about basic coverage information you can find out from a Toyota commercial, would you really trust them to give you a diagnosis and estimate? Our daughter goes to school out here so when she was having trouble with our hand-me-down Toyota, I thought what better place to take it than a Toyota dealer? WOW, what a mistake. They had the car off and on for 2 months, and had her pick it up three times, only to find the problem had not been fixed. The second time, she couldn't even get it off the lot! How do you call a customer and tell them "Your cars ready" when it's not fixed? There must be a couple problems here: (1) There is no checks and balances system, meaning no one randomly goes behind someone else's work and checks it for quality (They call it Quality Improvement in most corporate atmospheres); (2) The garage employs "technicians", not mechanics (my mechanic pointed that out to me). These are folks with little experience and most likely not graduates of a respected trade school. They merely change oil and spark plugs. The car is now at our local garage because, you guessed it, one day after my daughter picked it up, the problem came back. I had to pay a boatload to have it towed back to Bethesda. And the kicker? Our mechanic said Toyota Westminster fixed something that didn't need to be fixed! So I paid quite a lot of money for parts and labor that weren't needed. Two stars, because a couple of the front desk folks were very pleasant on the phone and my daughter said they were pleasant to deal with in-person. read more

I had bad experience with the salesman named Jim Shea, who worked at the used car department. I original got referred to Josh, but Jim was the one messaged me on the Facebook message. I rather have Josh than Jim. Somehow, Jim took me instead of Josh. Jim added many hidden fees into my package, included a thing call "dealer add" which is $317, processing fee $300, and DMV Tag/ fees $300. We were asking him that if he can take off the dealer add. He said no, it is the dealer stuffs and he can't take it off bla bla bla. It was my first time ever went to a dealer to get a car, so I did not aware of those hidden fees. He took advantage of us that we do not know much about all of the fee. Even though after making enough money from me, I texted Jim asking about the broken mirror that I saw in the car. He kept saying that it's coming "this week", but it did not really ready until a month later. I kept texting/ calling him asking about the part for weeks. He mostly ignored my texts. If he's nice, he should reply to the text when customer asked. In additional of my unhappy experience is that I texted him asking about the additional key. I want to make an additional key but he never ever reply to my text. I have to call into Koons and asked to talk to him. He ignored most of my texts after he makes enough money from us. This is rip off. I don't know about the other dealer but this guy, Jim Shea, is not the good one, he ripped you off, and will ignore most of your texts until you called into Koons, talked to the customer service and specific asking for him. When my car got recalled, I had to text Jim and asked about how to make appointment and what to do with it. He ignored my text. I had to drive back into the dealer personally to ask for him. When he got my mirror fixed, he told me to go to the garage station to get my recall taken care, and he also told me that he already talked to the Josh overthere. I drove there and told them that Jim sent me here, they didn't aware of that at all. Also, after they fixed my recall; the technician somehow left a screwdriver and a lid in my car. I did not notice about the screwdrivers and the lid there until the next day. When I came back to Koons and told Josh about the screwdriver and the lid that left at behind of my car seat. Josh told me that the technician that worked on my car was not there, so he did not know why those left in my car. I doubt that they even did not finish fixing the car at all. I would not recommend Jim Shea as the salesman to anyone, he is unprofessional and he will totally ignore you when he made enough money out of you. read more

I purchased a used 2018 Toyota Camry with a Toyota Certification so I didn't really think to "inspect" the car thoroughly. Once I got home I noticed my front bumper was being held on by drywall screws and all after market parts were on the car along with a huge dent that was happened out. After taking my car to a body shop, frame damage was found. I contacted Koons general manager Vitaly Gurvich and returned the car and didn't receive any compensation not even a sorry only "people make mistakes". I purchased a 2020 Lexus GX 460 from Koons Toyota in Baltimore in July of 2023. I found the vehicle on line. Brendon , who is a sales person at Koons, had a video on line of this vehicle. It looked good except for some scratches on the front bumper. I contacted Brendon and told him that I would purchase the vehicle at the advertised price if they would repair the scratches and detail the vehicle. Brendon agreed to fix the vehicle and detail it. They don't ship so I flew a friend to Baltimore and he drove the car back. When I received the car the scratches had not been repaired and the car wasn't detailed. I texted with Brendon and sent photos of the area that wasn't repaired. He apologized and promised to rectify the situation. Koons has promised to send a check to cover the repairs but I have not received it. That was 3 weeks ago. They tell me that they sent $150.00. I am not sure that $150.00 will fix my issues? Koons gave me their word in writing that that these issues would be handled before my guy picked up the car. I spoke to Dan Harkins who is a manager at Koons. He said that his body shop could do it for $150.00. I am sure they can but I don't have his connections. He also suggested that I drive from North Carolina to Baltimore and they would do the body work??
