We were driving back from the coast to Windsor and decided to stop by. My husband and I visited 13 years ago on our honeymoon and thought it would be fun to visit again with our kids and my parents. They closed at 4:30 and we arrived at 4:05. Instead of turning us away, they offered us a free glass of champagne instead of their normal tasting. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio and my kids got a couple snacks from the deli. It is so beautiful there with a view of vineyards towards the road or the big trees and vines towards the buildings. read more

Went here recently with some friends. Sadly, I had to give three stars due to a specific interaction with an employee. It was our first time at this winery, and we came for a tour and tasting. Let me start off with the good, the tour was well put together and our tour guide was wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly. The tasting was great, with surprisingly generous pours! Which was wonderful. After the tour, we visited the deli and the food was very yummy with a decent amount of portion sizes for the price. For the tasting however, that's where the bad experience happened. We were having such a wonderful time, until we got a woman named Alayna. She seemed like she was in a bad mood, had a bad attitude towards us, made us feel rushed, corrected the way we "tallied" our choices on the tasting menu, and was extremely off-putting with little condescending comments. Other than that experience, we enjoyed our time. We would come again, and just dodge her in the future if we saw her in the tasting room. read more

We attended the annual summer lū'au for members and then walked to the tasting room; the staff are always so kind and accommodating. Located in Guernville and the beautiful Russian River region... Korbel is world famous for its Champagnes. Started in 1882 and still going strong. As of April they are again offering tastings of their many California Champagne varieties currently produced onsite. And at very reasonable prices! Or why not purchase a bottle and sit under the beautiful redwoods to sip and enjoy on their peaceful deck. We chose the later. But first a visit to the Korbel deli just steps away. Had a double date at Korbel, and I couldn't believe it was my first time! S E R V I C E: There are tons of parking spaces available, and Korbel is just huge. There's greenery everywhere and everything looks very picturesque. Our server was Hillary, and she was great! Even though she was pretty busy, she gave us enough time and space to enjoy our company and the wine. W I N E: Tastings are $15 and if you purchase 3 bottles, it waives one tasting! I love how they show you all your options ranging from dry to sweet. I, of course, had to try some of the sweets. First, I tried their Blanc de Noir which is one of their reserves (4 stars) and for the sweet wines, I had Sweet Cuvee and their Moscato (5 stars each). The BH and Yelp partner loves champagne. We were visiting the Russian River area, so a visit to the Korbel Winery seemed in order. We picked a gorgeous day. The visit was entertaining and informative. The start of the tour begins at the restored train station for a short intro and historical perspective. The tour guide moves the group to the original winery building (no longer used for production). The group watches an hour long movie on the history of Korbel starting out with the family immigrating to the USA from Bohemia, cigar making, moving from the east coast to San Francisco, moving to Guerneville, cigar box making, logging, building a railroad to the logging operation, growing crops, growing grapes and the production of sparkling wine. And the story of the only American sparkling that can call itself champagne. The tour moves thru the cellar with its original barrels built in place and other memorabilia. The tour ends with a glass of sec, a champagne only served and sold at the winery. We learned about the different grapes used as well as the dosage to determine the level of sweetness. We also learned about riddling and the Korbel's invention of an automatic riddling machine.After the tour, we moved to the tasting room where you get 3 pours for $15. There were 3 of us in our group so we tried 9 different champagnes of varying sweetness. Then on to the retail store before ending up in the deli for a noshe to fortify us for the drive back to our lodging. Staff at the winery were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. After an invigorating hike at Armstrong State Reserve, we had some free time before our scheduled wine tour. We happened to pass by Korbel on the way out there, so we knew we could drop by for a tasting. The turn in heading west is visible but the town in heading East was difficult to see. I passed it and had to turn around. The parking lot is huge. It's a very picturesque place. We took a few pics of the flowers and by the Korbel building and signs before we entered. Watch out for the huge spider webs on your way in. The gift shop is cute- I grabbed some golf related souvenirs. We shared a tasting. The gal who served us was maybe one day over 21. We took her recommendations but probably shouldn't have. I didn't really enjoy any of the three tastings. I was a bit annoyed that they only serve you one glass at a time. So you have to finish that one before you move on to the next. I prefer to taste all three and kinda go back and forth to see the differences etc. but that was not allowed. We were lucky to beat a huge bus of tourists. We finished our tasting, paid for our souvenirs and headed out. I heard their deli is amazing and you can get really nice salads and sandwiches. We already had a lunch pairing planned so we did not visit the deli. If this place is on your way somewhere, go ahead and stop by. It's got a lot of history. But I would not go out of my way to come here. read more

We had such a great time visiting Korbel. We didn't make a reservation and they were kind enough to try and accommodate us. While we waited we had some food and really enjoyed both the salad and sandwich. The salad tasted fresh and I really enjoyed the dressing. The sandwich was a good portion size and had a nice balance of all the ingredients. They have a beautiful area to sit outside and we got to enjoy the nice weather. Our tasting was a lot of fun too. We sat inside their tasting room and our server was amazing. She was very knowledgeable about the sparkling wines we were trying and it was clear that she loved what she did. I recently visited Korbel Champagne Cellars with a friend on a day trip. It was easy a beautiful drive to the property with winding roads and then plentiful parking spaces. We were very early for the tour so grabbed a quick warm beverage while wandering through the shops and enjoying the ambiance of the fireplace. Our tour guide was friendly and personable. I do wish we'd had a few more minutes in the museum to look over the antique equipment and exhibits. The tasty was just $15 (as others have mentioned) for a generous glass of champagne (no barely there sips here) and you get to sample 3 different types of champagne. Went for a tasting today to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The grounds were beautiful and staff were pleasant. The tasting was free because we signed up for a membership which has zero ongoing fees, you only pay for the bottles chosen with a discount. We got 6 bottles and a tasting for 2 for around $90. We also went by the delicatessen for a snack which was needed since the tasting was 3 drinks with large servings. We grabbed cheese with salami and grapes. We've been here so many times over the years and we love coming here. The location is stunning, surrounded by redwood trees and vineyards. Gorgeous old buildings, flowers everywhere.... They are so kind and helpful with choosing your wines/champagnes. There is a lovely tasting room, and you can also take a tour. We were excited to come across Korbel Cellars on our road trip around Sonoma. We stopped in and were greeted by a very nice, and friendly gentleman. He offered us a tasting of the Korbel Rosé and we loved it. I am not usually a fan of sparkling wines but I did enjoy this one and thought it would make a great treat for our Easter brunch back home. They do offer 5 tastings for 25.00 per person and the champagnes vary from dry to very sweet. Pours were very generous. The tasting room was pretty large, had a fire going, and plenty of open tables available. They do not serve food here but right next door they have a fantastic café. Parking is easy with plenty of spaces. The grounds are gorgeous, the vineyards are right across the road and tours are offered daily and don't need a reservation. Korbel is a mass producer of sparkling wine, so my expectations weren't high going into the tasting. We mainly came here to get lunch at their little cafe, which was delightful (you can check my 5-star review for it), but figured we were here so we may as well taste. The tasting room was a little disappointing compared to their beautiful outdoor deli deck surrounded by the redwoods. They did have some beautiful chandeliers, but the room felt dark and dull with its open space and plastic tables and chairs. The tasting was $25 and consisted of 5 wines, though we were given an additional off menu pour. They also offer free tours daily, we were offered to join one while there, but opted to skip it. The bubbles started on the crisper side and got progressively sweeter, with the last pour and the off menu pour being way too sweet for us. Our tasting associate was nice and gave us good information and descriptions on the wine as well as some history on Korbel. Overall it wasn't a bad experience, I just love to wine taste and this didn't do it for me in comparison to so many of the other places I've visited. read more

Stop by the cellar after tubing in the Russian River. We were tired and hungry so stopped by this spot. I wasn't impressed by the service. We were not guided through the tasting experience as we have known to appreciate others places do. We came to the counter and didn't know what we were supposed to do and the servers were not helpful to let us know. There were a few of us and they seemed frustrated with us. We ate at their little cafe, food was good. We had sandwiches with chips. Champagne was delicious. It was nice taste different styles of Korbel Champagne. I liked trying their seasonal stuff. Julie was so great in sharing the history of the champagne, wine was great & the Christmas decor was still up which made it feel festive. We recently visited the makers of classic California Champagne in Sonoma County, at Korbel Champagne Cellars just east of Guerneville on River Road. Korbel has always been my standby for special occasions. It started with just a few types like Brut and Sec. However, Korbel has now expanded their selections of California Champagne considerably. They have used several different varietals of grapes in their recent additions, including Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. They have offered white, pink, and red California Champagnes in recent years. They even now sell still wines and fortified Brandies. The Korbel winery is historic, and resides in a redwood area of River Road. It is beautiful. They even have a nice deli for sandwiches. When we went for our tasting, we were served by a very kind, pleasant, and knowledgable person named Samantha. I highly recommend Korbel Champagne Cellars as a great way to spend an afternoon in Sonoma County. read more

Fantastic bubbles tasting! Popped in over the long weekend to taste some bubbles with friends. For non-wine club members, the tasting fee is $25 for a flight of 5. The chilled sparkling wines are the perfect tasting for a hot summer day. My favorite of the bunch was the Korbel Natural, it was crisp and slightly tart and very easy to drink on a hot day. The staff were all very nice and accommodating. We did not have a reservation, but they were able to seat us almost immediately. A great stop whenever you're passing through Guernville! read more

This isn't your typical review. This is a positive shout out to the amazing staff and security at Korbel. When we were there, it was for a friend's bachelorette. We were all dress in our florals and looking cute and wanting to have a beautiful day. Seriously this is in no way a negative review. We were getting a couple of bottles of champagne and a few of us wanted to find a spot to sit for the 10 of us (which was no problem-SO MANY TABLES) Once we all sat down, a couple members of our group started talking about a creepy man walking very close and looked like he was taking photos or videos.  I'm not someone who shuts her mouth about this type of thing. So when I started noticing him and his crazy eyes and walking back and forth, I said ENOUGH. I went into the deli and alerted a sweet staff member. Not only did she go directly to her manager, but to the security team. We had no other issues and it was a beautiful tasting.  Then as we were wrapping up, the head of security came up to our table and thanked me for saying something and explained the outcome a bit. Well I'm writing all of this to say THANK YOU to the Korbel team for taking it seriously, taking care of the issue and being so amazing.  Korbel is a safe, fun, and BREATHTAKING winery. I recently visited Korbel Winery with friends and, unfortunately, we felt unwelcome. When my friend tried to use a gift card that was only valid for online purchases, the deli staff weren't friendly or helpful--they just told us to check with the wine tasting area. Later, about 10 minutes before closing, we had half a bottle of Champagne and were hoping for some guidance so we didn't waste it. When we approached the deli, the staff saw us but didn't offer any assistance. At the wine tasting section, we were told they couldn't help unless we purchased something. Throughout our visit, the staff's attitude made us feel like a burden rather than valued guests. This was especially disappointing since we had enjoyed our first visit last year. Sadly, this experience makes it unlikely that we'll return. read more

One of my friends from SF met me there for lunch last week and I ordered the trim tip sandwich ...FANTASTIC! It had to be one of the best sandwiches I ever had! When I first moved to California (Under 21) I always remember seeing a bottle of Korbel at party celebrations. Over the decades they seem to have held that place. The market is always changing and expanding, but Korbel is tried and true for American style sparkling wines and a standard at gatherings. The area on both sides of the highway on both sides as we approached the winery were lush with vineyards then you roll up to the 135-ish year old property. The drive up the Russian River Highway is a treat in itself. I purposely selected that drive to show the area off to my awesome daughter. Plenty of parking, lots of shade, easy access for handicapped (I'm a disabled Veteran), and a first-class tasting room. They have so many more products since I turned 21 decades ago. It was my absolute delight. It was charming and they kept the old timey brick and mortar building style ... even on the remodel. BRAVO. Lorrie Was own superior server. We soon realized they were all properly trained in hospitality and wine knowledge. If they don't know the answer to something, they ask. How cool is that? I know a quite a bit about wine (At one time 20 years ago my family had a winery and was a well-known presence in the Alexander Valley.) I was pleased that Lorrie answered all my questions. Her professionalism impressed my daughter and I greatly. We were totally treated like royalty. You WILL find one that hits home. They offer a price reduced monthly special (while it lasts), a FREE Wine Club that offer a deep discount so you can travel with some goodies. Most places charge for a club. They also do fee-based shipping. I went in for a taste and left with a case. Not bad. Yum. Thank you, Team Korbel, for educating my daughters palate with fine wine. Made an impromptu stop at Korbel on our way back from a beach camping weekend. The facility is beautiful and historic and definitely worth a stop just for pictures. I decided to taste a couple of their sparklings that I'd not had before and also one that can be found in most grocery stores. For three tastings you're charged $15, but that is deducted if you purchase three or more bottles at the end. The service was mediocre at best. While our server was polite, she was not really friendly and made us want to leave sooner rather than later. The retail store is cute and stocked with basic wine country souvenirs. Dropped in to the deli and was a bit disappointed. Was hoping for some fantastic healthy, maybe even plant based options, but only found basic sandwich/salad offerings. A close friend of mine is a member and took us along with her. We did the tour of the cellars, a seated tasting, and tried the deli. First the tour was really interesting about 45 minutes in the cellars and 15 minutes back outside drinking a glass of champagne. Typical tour... history, the different types of wines, how they bottle etc. if you're into that kind of stuff totally worth it but not necessary in my option when visiting. Next we did a seated tasting in their tasting room. Great experience they accommodated us and switched out a few of the set pours for more of our liking which I really appreciated. Lastly the deli was the star of the show. I ordered the tri tip sandwich on Dutch crunch soooo good. The seating was scares but they allowed us to sit in a blocked off area. So good to venture through their products! They also have flat wines and port! The port was impressive! Lastly they have brandy too! Tasting can be done outside or on a shaded porch. We were at Korbel last week and had a great time. Jack (our host) toured us through the old production facility and extraordinary knowledge and enthusiasm for the champagne products that are produced on site. The landscape is beautiful and includes huge Sequoia trees and many colorful flowers. I was traveling with 3 ladies and the were really excited about the tastings and ended up joining the very convenient wine club. Just a great time. read more
