I had just quit my job, and I was feeling directionless, scattered, like I didn't know what to do first. I saw a lot of possible directions for my career but needed time and space to explore these different avenues. The most impactful part about working with Kori was learning how to identify my inner critic's voice. I learned to listen and work with the fear-based voices in my head and eventually trust in the more natural flow of things. Working with Kori has truly been a highlight of my year. I went into her program really trying to figure out what I wanted to do next. I was practicing law and after nine years in the legal field, I knew that it wasn't the right environment for me and the type of work I wanted to do. It wore on me that I was representing companies whose values did not always align with mine, and I was also bored with the work itself. The legal field hasn't evolved much in decades, and much of law firm work is monotonous - sitting in your office alone writing, with little interaction with people. I am an extrovert, and wanted something that was more dynamic, creative, and mission-driven, but didn't know where to start. Working with Kori, I figured out exactly the direction I want to go! I'm crafting a position for a company as a Chief of Staff to support their leadership team, where I can do more creative and varied work, while bringing in the skills I've used as a lawyer. In addition, I hope to franchise my favorite yoga studio to bring it to New York, which feels more realistic now that I'm not tied down to working in a law firm. I gained clarity working with Kori, and am feeling confident connecting with people in these fields and sharing my ideas and plans for what's next. I felt stuck for a couple of years in my career, and I couldn't pinpoint why. So I tried changing a couple of variables - location, company, and team, and it got a little bit better- but I kept feeling like there was something else I could be doing with my career that was a better fit for me. I was at a period in my career where I was starting to feel, what I can only describe as 'foggy'. I had a lot of questions about where my career was going, like: 'am I still happy with where I am and what I'm doing?' 'Is this the right place for me?' 'What does the next phase of my career look like?' I had bought a bunch of books, journals and did a lot of soul searching, but wasn't coming up with much clarity on my own. I decided to look for a career counselor to help me sort it all out. Many of the ones I found were more focused on the 'job', which I already could feel was not the whole issue of where my internal questions were coming from. Which brings me to Kori. From our first conversation I could tell that she had a very different approach. She had a more wholistic view of defining your life's purpose and looking for career opportunities that help you explore that -she also helped me create other goals outside of my job, because your career is only one part of the puzzle, and there are many other aspects of life that contribute to your overall satisfaction/happiness. For six years, I tried my hardest to get out of my job in reality television. The job was stressful, the team lacked boundaries, and I was working 24-7. I wanted to leave and figure out how to do that without burning bridges. I just wanted to move into a work environment where I felt more comfortable, which would give me a little work-life balance because, up until that point, I'd never had that. I was going through a rough transition professionally. I felt like I was trying to adapt myself to job descriptions instead of knowing confidently what it was I really wanted in my next role. Through the work, I was able to clearly see patterns emerge around both what I'm good at, and also around what I enjoy doing. I can now quickly evaluate opportunities when applying for new jobs which has bolstered my confidence and communication to future employers. 12 weeks later, I feel clear about my new direction and currently interviewing for dream roles, which is such a wonderful feeling!
