Arriving- Theses Shops have private entrances on Main Street so you don't necessarily need to go inside the hotel. Main Street parallel parking is free. An alternative is to park behind the hotel in the free lot and walk through it. It's beautiful so you won't regret it! Ambience- A lot of folks say cute and I would agree. Also, spotless. Products- The focus is soda of which there are hundreds. There are also ice cream and hot dogs which I didn't have a chance to sample. My focus was old fashioned root beer. I had no problem finding what I wanted and the price was fair. Customer Service - Nice guy that was friendly and efficient! I couldn't ask for more! Conclusion- So it's a blistering hot Florida summer day and you need a break from sweating. A great choice would be a hot dog, soda and an ice cream for dessert. Five stars! Pro Tip- This is one of three delightful privately-owned businesses all adjacent to each other. The other two are aromatic and delicious coffee shop and a unique Italian market. I strongly suggest you visit all three while you're there!

I strapped that baby on and moseyed on down to check it out! Arriving- It's on Avon Park's Main Street about a minute from US Route 27 and simple to find. There is a small parking lot complete with easy access for those needing a handicapped spot. Ambience- This is one of the most beautifully merchandised stores I've seen in some time. It's spotlessly clean and meticulously arranged. It was a true pleasure to wander around and check everything out. My pictures do not do it justice! Customer Service- I was greeted by a delightful young lady who expertly answered all of my questions. Unfortunately, she was unimpressed with my giant Yelp belt buckle, but I didn't hold that against her! Product- You come here for western clothes and accessories. Hats, boots, belts, shirts, and jeans. It's all there and so beautifully organized, it's easy to find your size. I'd say they are a mid-priced store. See my pic for some beautiful shirts that were on sale for $39. These folks are owned by locals, and I always appreciate that! If you are blowing through Highlands County and in the market for Western wear, you'd have a great experience here!

I actually visited twice because it was so bad the first time I thought the shock might have affected my ability to comprehend what I was experiencing. Nope, the second visit was just as bad. If you've been around awhile, it's easy to see what this place used to be. It was the corner store where you could get anything and meet all your neighbors. It has groceries, a meat market, a notary, Western Union, a bait shop, fishing licenses, gas pumps out front and on and on and on. Old timers say that it indeed was the place to go. Time has passed it by and now it's just a sad, dirty, and broken down eyesore. It's a miracle it's still open. Abysmal selection. Out of code products. Dirty. Broken displays. You get the idea. If the apocalypse occurred and the world as we knew it was ending; I might stop in but I'd need to think about it!

This store is straight up my alley. There are two rooms plus a back area is filled with gorgeous vintage items. Everything is in mint condition and clearly priced which I really appreciate. This is a consignment shop which means folks leave their items here to be sold. In this type of situation I will sometimes ask if the price can be lowered which usually necessitates a call to the owner of the item but here everything was priced to sell. Some of my favorite items were the strawberry print cups and canisters, vintage floral napkin rings, the little ceramic collection of dogs, and a print of an owl. They had what look like hundreds of records and really pretty jewelry. I loved everything. If I lived closer I would be stalking this store all the time. If you find yourself in Bartow and love vintage you need to stop in. To quote a saying from the 1920's, this store is the bees knees!

It's hard to tell but I just call it delicious! They seem to be most known for their teas and meal replacement drinks. I had a good friend that offered to buy me an iced tea and as I'm usually a coffee drinker, I told her to surprise me. She handed me a beautifully iced cup called a Black Widow (Strawberry, Raspberry, Grape, and Peach). It was superb! I posted a pic of just part of their giant menu so you can see their unbelievable selection. BTW- I could have had an iced coffee which would be typical for me, but I took a walk on the wild side. Note- This is a street-parking place but that is usually not a problem in teeny tiny Avon Park. Note- If you are specially health conscious and doing the meal replacement thing, this is your place! These folks are very very knowledgeable! When it's hot and humid out, and of course that never happens in Central FL, this is a five-star place to grab a cool and often healthy drink!
