Marie G. - It sounds like your complaints should be directed at lender's counsel and the inspector. You should not be selling a home with any form of debris "new or otherwise" inside or outside of the property. As a seasoned buyer, I would never close on a home with a faulty air conditioning system. A large holdback would be required in this situation, again, by lendor's counsel, not the real estate agent. This sounds like a classic case of shooting the messenger. Kristin does not deserve your mudslinging. I grew up in Marshfield. My family (the Martins) has been there for generations and our roots are deep in the town. My Grandfather Donny Martin was very well respected and owned a local business in town. I still have a lot of family in Marshfield, such as my Aunt Dawn Martin who is very active in the community. Recently the house that my great grandmother built and raised her family in and then was passed on to my grandfather and grandmother to raise their children in, the house that was my second home growing up went up for sale. I was very excited about this news, as I had been sad that my grandmother sold it about 15 years ago. My Aunts went to the open house Thursday and reported back that the house looks good, but to be aware the Agent at the open house was not friendly to them. When I took my husband Duong An and two small children to see the house they knew how excited I was to see it. I had been telling my husband that I wanted to buy it, as we are in the market to purchase a single family home for our kiddos. Currently we live in the city and own several investment properties. My husband does not want to live in Marshfield but we were entertaining the idea of purchasing the home as an investment property if it made sense financially. Well as soon as we entered the house the agent was cold to us. When my daughter very excitedly exclaimed that her mommy grew up in the house the agent looked annoyed and asked if we were there to just look or if we were interested in purchasing. I told her we were interested. She asked us to start at one end of the home and if we had an agent. I told her my husband is an agent (he's actually a broker). My husband started to ask her questions about the systems of the home and she told him to look online at MLS. He was not pleased, as it is the job of an agent to answer questions at an open house about the home that people are looking at. He turned the water faucet on in the kitchen sink and she scolded him and asked us not to touch anything. I realize that we are in a pandemic and we had our masks on and used the hand sanitizer that was provided when we entered the room, but it is not unreasonable for people to touch things during an open house. Things like a faucet to see water pressure or closet doors to see how large they are. So already things were not going well, but I am a woman of color and used to the nonsense. We continued to look around and when we got to the room where I had slept I noticed the light fixture was the same one. I mentioned to my husband that it was old and broken and would have to be replaced. Well apparently I wasn't supposed to talk to my husband and share my thoughts on the house with him, because the agent reprimanded me by saying I was being inappropriate for speaking negatively about the house. I was flabbergasted. I told her I would say whatever I want and reminded her that no one was in the house besides me and my family. As an agent she should know that is par for the course. People are going to talk about the things they like and don't like about a house they are interested in purchasing. Well she didn't like that and said she would need me to leave. I told her I would not and that I had every right to be there. She told me it was a privately owned home and that I needed to leave. I again said no and reiterated that I had a right to be there as I was interested in purchasing the home. She then actually said to ME that she was going to call the police! I was shocked. She wanted to call the police on me because I shared my opinion about a light fixture with my husband. I said, "go ahead, call them." My husband said, "please do." And may have mentioned he is also a lawyer. We walked away, as my 6 year old started crying and asking me if we could leave because she doesn't want the police to come and get me. I was shocked, angry, and sad. I have been treated poorly before, but no one has ever threatened to call the police on me. We all know what that threat is about, especially now with the Black Lives Matter movement and protests against police brutality. A white woman threatening a black woman with the the police for doing absolutely nothing wrong is an example of white privilege and dangerous. I am disappointed that an experience I was excited about sharing with my family turned ugly. I made it clear when we were leaving that I would be writing a review. read more
