I asked her to fax an itemized receipt for a tiny copay I paid 2 months earlier, which should require no effort (i.e. Letterhead + "Cleaning- $5.00") When I followed up hours later, she told me the doctor had to review my chart and that I would "Just have to wait." No apology for the delay, no thanks for your patience, just "You just have to wait." When I let her know that there was an FSA deadline approaching, she said, "What's the big deal, it's just five dollars." I don't care if it's $5 or $500, as a customer who has already paid, I am entitled to a receipt without hassle. Repeatedly impolite, impatient, and condescending, Mary is reason enough for me to switch to another dental provider ASAP. Fifteen minutes later ( fortunately my needs were due to nerves rather than urgency ) the dentist appeared. She came out with a roll of toilet paper and with her bare hands proceeded to roll off sheets of paper for me. I left the paper and her office. I will never return. I am a senior citizen perfectly able to take care of my paper needs and to hand me crumbled paper with her bare hands was not only insulting it was also a testimony to her lack of hygiene.

Then when did find one, there was an insurance issue. When all else fails, go to the best hospital you can find and Montefiore was it for me. Though the dental clinic is a bit out of the way for me, the trip was worth it. I had to do a walk in because the appointments were months away. I arrived at 9 am. Though I found out that doors open at 8. I waited until Noon to be seen. Not that bad if you have a book or your phone to keep you busy. I was first seen by a dental nurse who took my x-ray on a 360 machine almost immediately after registration. The room can get really crowded so be prepared to stand, there are a lot of older people and persons with disabilities so I decided to stand until the rush calmed. I was seen by a general dentist who came in and explained my condition. I needed a root canal. But the infection was pretty deep and I may have to have an extraction. Luckily when they dug in they found it could be saved. I was then seen by Dr. Hwang. She and her assistant were communicative and patient. They explained costs and the plan of care. She told me that we were not going to rush into surgery, just get me out of pain and get things to a better place. I walked out of there feeling like a million dollars* (Not sure cause half my face was still numb). But they set me up with my next appointment and told me that everything would be done in stages. No rush. I felt like once I was face to face I was being attended to and not seen as a number on a very busy day. I look forward to continued care with them.

They checked my dental insurance before I got to the office and knew my policy did not cover the x-ray they needed and never contacted me to tell me beforehand and expected me to come out of pocket over $200 the same day. 3. When one of the ladies from the front desk came into the room to explain my policy to me, I asked her why no one called me to inform and I was not given an answer. It was just very matter of fact and not apologetic at all. I would suggest going somewhere else where the staff treats you better. I could tell by the way they spoke to me over the phone it wasn't the best place to go but I went against my better judgement because it was close to home.
