Charlotte has taken care of our dogs for over 20 years. We have had mostly Standard Poodles and one shepherd. She is absolutely awesome.

We really hate when she needs to be boarded, because she is a pretty obstinate indoor-outdoor kitty and has no qualms about showing her displeasure when locked in small spaces for any length of time. One of the reasons these folks caught my eye is that they have nice big rooms available for only a few more dollars a day compared to the ubiquitous "cat condo". And while a 4x8 foot space is still kitty prison, at least there is room for impatient pacing. The girls I talked to were very friendly, kept the kennel spotless, and did their part to make the kitty feel at home. They didn't seem to have much of a crowd in residence at the time, but mid-September isn't exactly the peak of vacation season. We opted to bring our own food since the princess is picky, and the room had space for a couple of her personal items (not that those made her any happier about this adventure). Those bonuses and the extra attention she was able to coax out of the staff seemed to keep her stress level at bay. As is usually the case, she didn't speak to us (except to say things that would translate in to four-letter words in any human language) for a few days after picking her up. But she is definitely no worse for wear- no post-kennel PTSD or newfound distrust of the humans.

She has high anxiety, and though she hates being taken there, once she settles in she is very happy. She has a fair sized room to hang out in, with no dogs around to stress her. She has a window to look out, and kind, regular caretakers. However, now I find out they are suddenly closing - I had reservations this summer (2018), but they are closing in the next couple of weeks - permanently! I am very sad and upset about this, as there are no other comparable places nearby that take only cats, or have a cats-only building, except one place that is $39 a day!! Who can afford that?! Anyway, I wish someone would buy the Catnap Inn and keep it open!!

My 6 year old border collie had always been a nervous dog and did not like strangers around her…read more She would nip at people without warning, so we did not take her anywhere. Even though our family was pretty social, she was never part of our social life. When people came over, we put her in a locked room. She rarely went in the car anyplace, and going to the vet was a nightmare. Last summer, I turned Aubrey's world upside down. I got married and moved into a new house. This household included another dog and a special needs 26 year old. The first few weeks were stressful. Aubrey was very anxious and my stepson did not read her cues. There were a few bite incidents and nobody could relax. I didn't know what to do and thought I would have to surrender my dog. I looked online and saw Kasten's Dog Training, which I knew to be close to my new house in Elkhart. I truly doubted that anyone could help my six year old dog. I called and scheduled an online interview. I remember feeling very optimistic after that first phone call. Right away, I felt like there was someone who understood what we were going through, and was going to help me keep my dog. I had nothing much to lose, so I signed her up! Aubrey participated in Program 5- Behavioral Modification for Aggressive Dogs and Dogs with a Bite History. She spent 21 days at Kasten's split into two sessions. After the first 9 days, I came to pick her up and immediately noticed a difference in her demeanor. She completed the second half of her training right before Christmas. When my son came home college, he was shocked to see how much better she was behaving. She had a new confidence and was no longer so anxious. She was a treat to take on walks and we didn't have to worry about her darting out the door anytime it opened. We have taken Aubrey to Kasten's for boarding several times in the past year. Being able to board her, and know she is safe, has been such a blessing. The fact that she was receiving refreshers as she stayed there was an added bonus. Before coming to Kasten's, I never would have even thought that I could board her anywhere. The trainers at Kasten's were so helpful and did such a great job with Aubrey. They worked tirelessly with her, and I could see the extra effort that they put in to get her to feel more comfortable, and eventually enjoy training sessions. Kasten's Dog Training has improved our family's life. We can now enjoy our active social lives and include Aubrey. She jumps happily into her kennel when told, walks on a leash like a show dog and even goes on trips to the hardware store several times a month. She and my stepson have a mutual understanding, and both of them feel much safer around each other. Making that phone call to Kasten's was truly one of the best decisions that I have ever made. Thank you to everyone at Kasten's - you have made such a difference in our lives!

Highly recommend! Lovingly took our rambunctious dogs and taught us how to be better puppy parents.read more

This review is not written lightly, and it's not about being "upset" -- it's about accountability…read more We adopted a cat from this Humane Society after being told the cat was healthy. Within weeks, the cat showed worms, blood-related health issues, and ongoing medical problems that were clearly present before adoption. That alone is unacceptable. What made this experience truly awful was how it was handled afterward. We contacted the Humane Society multiple times asking for help. We were told we would receive a call back -- we never did. We called again. Still no real help, no solutions, no follow-up. Just silence. When we pushed for answers, instead of support or responsibility, we were blamed. We were told we "should have gone to a specialist" and then informed that we are banned from adopting from this Humane Society ever again. That response is shocking, especially considering this situation exists because we were given a sick animal under the claim of being healthy. We are now being forced to return a cat we became emotionally attached to because we cannot afford hundreds of dollars in vet bills for conditions that should have been addressed prior to adoption or at least disclosed honestly. This review is directed not just at staff, but at management, board members, donors, and the community: * Why are sick animals being adopted out as "healthy"? * Why are adopters ignored when they ask for help? * Why are adopters punished instead of supported? Adoption should be about the well-being of animals and the people opening their homes to them -- not deflection, silence, and blame. I strongly encourage leadership to respond publicly and explain how situations like this are handled, because based on our experience, there is a serious lack of transparency and compassion here. Then to finish it all up when the cat was dropped of they said nothing , took the cat , the paperwork , and gave the carrier back.
