If you have a small camper or like to tent camp, this place is perfect. The back half of the grounds are shaded very well. Also mentioned by others, there are plenty of pond related things to do. Not mentioned often is that there is a nice playset and a jump pad in the center of the camp which was nice for us to let the kids go play on with other kids. The restroom was clean and well stocked. The showers were decent. As with any camp bathouse, it was soupy inside. Negatives: The lack of shade for the cabins and pull through sites. The activities were hit or miss the weekend we stayed. We showed up for a couple of them to find the activity area abandoned, or were told that they didn't know if it was going to happen. We had to leave early morning the day we left. There is no night slot on the office so we had to slide our keys on top of the door and hope they were found. We called the after hours number which went to voicemail. We left a message to call us to confirm they received the message and found the keys... no call back... we called them later in the day and confirmed they found them. All and all our stay nets out as a 5 out of 10. Mediocre customer service, inconsistent camp activities, good bath house, great cabins, and great water activities, bad pool situation. I would have scored this much higher if not for the little problems.

The online pictures created expectations that simply were not met when we arrived. To make matters worse, campsites were not clearly labeled, which resulted in another camper taking our reserved site. Management was very disorganized and, instead of taking responsibility and resolving issues efficiently, seemed to have an excuse for everything. The site we were ultimately assigned was basically a mud pit and not suitable for the premium price we paid. Many of the amenities advertised were either under construction or unavailable during our stay, yet this was not adequately communicated beforehand. We chose this campground and paid the higher rates expecting the advertised experience, but what we received fell far short. For the amount of money spent, this campground was simply not worth it. Hocking Hills itself is beautiful, but we left feeling frustrated and misled. Unfortunately, we will not be returning and cannot recommend this campground to others.

Enter Blue Heron Landing to the rescue! Blue Heron is open all year round however their tent camping is sectioned off by the small river and they had not yet moved a potta potty to the river for the late night convenience of hardcore tent campers like me. The owner was so sweet to voice her concerns for me due to April's still chilly temperatures but she felt much better after I let her know I pitch tents in Wisconsin in October. Still worried about a lengthy hike to the bathroom facilities, she gave me an excellent spot with direct access to the cleanest bathrooms/showers I have ever seen! And for reference, I camp all over as a traveling festival performer. The owner also let me set up late after closing which I really appreciated as my travel time had been set back when I had to pull off the road to research a replacement facility last minute. The owner's son came up to my campsite to collect the fee. He politely introduced himself and kept a respectful distance so not to scare me as I set up. I really appreciated that small gesture to make me feel safe. I had gone to West Virginia to scope out Point Pleasant to see if the September Mothman Festival might be a good fit for me. If I decide to add it to my festival circuit the only place I'll stay is Blue Heron Landing. While it certainly wasn't the other campground's fault that they couldn't accommodate me, Blue Heron Landing went above and beyond.

So happy we stumbled upon this little campground. Out of all the campgrounds we visited this summer (including Jellystone in Mt. Gilead), this was the kids favorite. I felt safe letting them ride their bikes and play at the playground. It is close to anything you'd need and about a 25 minute drive to Old Man's Cave. We also had a small issue (which turned into a non-issue) in the beginning with someone else plugged into our 30 amp and the lady at the office couldn't have been nicer and took care of everything right away. Campground has lots of seasonal and permanent residents that had most of the shaded sites. Our site was open to the sky. Utilities are in the middle and water pressure was strong. No dog park but there were plenty of places to walk the dogs. It's dark and quiet at night so we had a great night's sleep. Owners were very helpful and accommodating. Campground is 4 miles off the interstate on narrow, winding country roads, especially when you get on Middle Fork Road, where there are about 3-4 switchbacks with blind curves. Also if you have a big and tall rig, some of the trees have low branches. They're a PA park and also give discounts to military and veterans.

There are technically two different grounds for RVers and I was happy to be back in the farther grounds (less traffic noise from street and more privacy). It is lacking a few amenities. Although they are in the works, there are only port-a-potties around the campground and no laundry facility at this time. If long terming here, I would prefer to have at least a place to do laundry. If we are ever in the area, we will definitely stay here again!
