Kouyou Sushi is like the Costco of sushi buffets--plenty of value, and you'll leave eating way more than you intended to consume. For lunch especially, it's a steal. The fish is fresh, the rolls are tasty, and you won't need to take out a second mortgage to eat your body weight in sushi. Now, about that salmon nigiri... they must be hiding it in the back with the good silverware, because it shows up about as often as Halley's Comet. And when it does, it disappears faster than my self-control at the dessert table. I literally had to ask for salmon and it magically appeared only to be taken back when I took my pieces. A lot of trays could've used some love and replenishing, but hey--that just added a layer of suspense. Who knew a buffet could double as a scavenger hunt? All jokes aside, Kouyou delivers on flavor and bang for your buck. 23 days ago Good: Always clean. Service is always fantastic. Always has been. I've been here so many times but this time I took my wife who'd never been. Bad: Thursday we went around 6:30 pm. The trays were barely full. There were only. Few tables filled. Most of the food was COLD or just barely warm. I was so upset. Almost everything we put on our plates was like this. I told our waitress and showed her that our spring rolls and tempura shrimp were cold. She said that they would make more fresh but they didn't. It took forever and we had to ask 2 times for hot food. On 2nd time she went into kitchen and wife could hear her raising voice. After all that she brought 2 shrimp tempura and 2 spring rolls. They were very dark and obviously re-fried. Neither of us wanted to get more food or tell her that everything was cold. Cold fried shrimp, coconut shrimp, dumplings, cold tempura veggies. We feel we wasted $80 and thats a LOT for us. I wanted to say we felt we shouldn't pay but my wife was embarrassed. So we had dessert and left. I am really upset. I love Kouyou and this was my first horrible experience with them. My wife said if she ever decides to try again it'll have to be later in evening when they're more busy. They obviously weren't concerned with putting out lots of fresh hot food with so few people at the tables. I'd love for someone to read this and offer us to come back and try again. We tried Kouyou for the first time tonight. It was just the two of us. Located just off Riverside on Sample Road, this venue is easily seen. There is plenty of parking available. After being seated we checked out the buffet. The crab bowl was empty. We asked that it be filled and went to other areas. After the third time of asking they finally put out more crab. By then we had tried other areas. A huge assortment was displayed. Everything we tried had gotten cold. The fried items were no longer crispy, the wontons were displayed separately from the soup and dried out. Dessert was displayed at the opposite end of the buffet from ice cream and fruit. Location is out of my way but we had a holiday party here so I'm happy to try, glad I did. Large area for party or just normal dining. Tons of selection. Anywhere from American, Chinese, sushi, salad bar, dessert, etc.Food quality is great, turn around for fresh food was awesome. Let me start with I don't eat much seafood so I couldn't judge that part but I won't be returning for any of it. We came on a Sunday night at 7pm and the place was dead. Should have walked out but husband wanted buffet so we gave it a chance. I should have walked it before sitting down because I would have walked out. The only edible thing I had was some rice (with no flavor) and the green beans. I can't eat seaweed and I noticed they had soy paper but when I asked if they could make a roll, they said they don't make any customer requests. I just wanted a jb roll with the soy paper instead of the seaweed but since they couldn't sub, and all of the soy paper rolls they had also had seaweed, so no go there. The boneless spare ribs had no meat, they were all fat. The orange chicken couldn't even be called chicken, it was like old random meat that was dark brown in color and hard. Even the dessert cakes, which are usually purchased off site were frost bitten and dry. Nothing had flavor at all. We will not be returning. Especially not at a price point of $29. The sushi fish was far from fresh and the sushi rice was hard and cruncy. This was the first time we tried it and the last time. Though the selection of food is large it was just barely warm with every thing I picked from the "hot" buffet area. We went here today for our first time and the place is not only big but so nice! It definitely looks like an elevated buffet not your average place which we loved. We visited Kouyiu Buffet in Sample Rd for the first time on Dec. 25. The facilities appear, with a combination of asian and modern decor. The ambiance was relaxed and quiet and the place was very clean. We were a party of four and were promptly shown to a table. We place our drink orders and everyone started on the journey of finding what to eat. They had a nice selection, including sushi, hibachi, meats, crab legs, and pastries. Everyone in our party found something to enjoy. The service was great as our waitress keep our table clear and our glasses full. I am not sure if we paid dinner price or not, but the price was about $28 per person plus drinks and taxes. They added 18% gratuity to our bill automatically with the option to leave more. Absolutely terrible food and experience! I usually like cheap Chinese buffets with mediocre food. The problem is they were not cheap and the food wasn't mediocre....it was absolutely horrible. I should have known we were in for trouble when the lady at the hostess stand was playing on her phone and barely looked up for a second or two. The sushi was ok, I question how long it was sitting out because there weren't a lot of people here. I asked for a simple custom roll for my wife because she is picky with sushi, they wouldn't do it. Almost every place we go to is willing to make a roll for her so I was a little surprised when they said no. The food itself was disgusting . The boneless ribs were all gelatinous fat with sauce, dumplings and dim sum were all mush, and the chicken was hard and didn't taste fresh at all. Nothing I ate was good or even remotely good. Even the desserts were disappointing. The ice creams had no flavor and the little cakes on the buffet literally had dry rot. They crumbled like old dried out foam... and tasted like it. I ate what I could and my wife at green beans... very expensive green beans. Our waitress came by with the bill and I gave her a tip as usual. The waitress was apparently not satisfied and had the audacity to start questioning me why I didn't give her more. We told her while we were trying to eat about some of the issues with some of the food and she just said "ok" and walked away. When I was walking out I asked the lady at the hostess stand, whom was still glued to her phone, for a manager which she looked up , told me there is no manager here, and looked at me confused before I just gave up and walked out. I will never be back nor will I recommend my worst enemy to come here. I've been to some pretty terrible Chinese buffets that id still eat at again, I'm a risk taker. We cane to Kouyou Buffet on Christmas day. It was the only game open in town. I thought it would be full, but it wasn't. There was actually only a few parties so we were seated right away. I don't do buffets very often, but as far as I'm concerned, this is a pretty good one. Food was fresh, and I saw someone checking often. I had hibachi, and some fruits, but there have lots of selections. They also had crab legs and oysters. I didn't have them, but they were over ice and kept cold. One thing I always have the few times I make it to a Chinese buffet is green tea ice cream, it didn't disappoint. Service was very good. We were given a nice Christmas themed box with candy and a keychain when we left. If you like Chinese buffets, this place is pretty nice. read more

We went yesterday to this buffet. First thing I noticed it was clean! 2nd thing I noticed was that there was a big assortment. The Snow crab legs which were included for $25.95 a person were a decent size. They were served on ice. They tasted good although I would have liked warm ones. Speaking of warm, the only thing warm was the area where the cook makes your hot cooked food from selections of raw meats, vegetables and eggs. That was good. I write a lot of reviews and I am honest. All the rest of the food I tried was lukewarm or cold!!!!!! I spoke to 2 girl servers they just smiled and laughed. I think there was a language problem. The girl at the front said "Try again" She did somewhat understand. This buffet could be really good if the food was kept warm. No one working there moved the food around to keep it fresh and warm. I went to purchase food for take out at this restaurant. so I had to place my food on the scale. I paid for my food, signed the receipt And waited for the lady at the register to bag my food. While I waited, A white couple comes in to be seated for dine in. She looked at me and said finished and handed me a bag while my food was still on the scale and went to tend to the white couple that had just walked in the door. Crab legs, dragonfruit, oysters down to fries and maduros. Food quality: mediocre. Nothing particularly great, nothing horrible. Classic buffet. Sushi was mostly variants of salmon, tuna, shrimp rolls. But there was escarole, eel, roe, and a few other options. Not the highest quality but not bad. The Asian dishes like teriyaki or orange chicken were fine, but breaded hot items were more mushy than crispy. Shrimp universally overcooked and mushy. Dumplings tasted like a frozen product. Most food was not particularly hot/fresh - not bad, just not fresh out of kitchen. Price: $28 for Saturday night dinner. $6 beer. We went to the buffet this last Sunday around 6:30ish pm. As you may be aware weekends are charged at a premium of about $32.00 for each person. This premium price is because they offer raw oysters, crab legs and ginger lobster. Unfortunately their was only one oyster on ice and the crab legs were small and few in fact the lemon wedges were as big as the crab claws. I felt bad taking any since their were so few. Finally the Ginger Lobster was awful the small lobsters claws I did find were dried out . I went back several times to check if the oysters or crabs were restocked but no luck. Although they are convenient if the food sucks why go. Yes the ribs were dried out and over cooked, either they were over cooked or left in the heating pan for a long time. The coconut came out fresh but was very very sweet, the sweetness was overpowering and if you would have too many of them would probably send your blood sugar over 250 . The highlight of my dinner was the green tea and red bean ice cream. The other desert items are bland and boring and no you don't get a fortune cookie, If i did get on it would say "you a sucker, for eating here" . read more
