12/23/21 Well well well lots of us had the same idea to get to Kowlanek's Kielbasy Shop early for Christmas goodies! I couldn't wait to visit this iconic shop that spans generations and the rest of time. I perused the website and it was astounding at how many offerings they have. They've reinvented kielbasy in different ways. Kielbasa loaf anyone? This was recommended to me by the guys in front of me and it is savory and delicious. It's almost like a fully cooked product sliced thin almost like a lunch meat. Mine was still served warm and just finished cooking. I got a lot of kielbasa. Some fresh and smoked. I'm trying their beef sticks, and kielbasa sticks both regular and Hawaiian. I'm stoked to gift these treasures to a few who I know will really appreciate them. Don't forget to check out their logo reusable shopping bags, and their shirts! They carried poppyseed roll today, and bread too. They have a case where they keep bacon bombs and I think some dips. Grew up in Shenandoah eating all their foods. Stopped home today to drive by my parents house so my kids could see them and had to pick up some food. Great set up with allowing limited customers in at a time. Hand washing station in front of store. I pickup up the normal stuff like fresh kielbasa, kielbasa and cheese sticks and kielbasa loaf. The meat is amazing and the staff at the counter is first class (which is very uncommon in this area especially Shenandoah). They are super friendly and if you ask nice will give you a taste of the meats before buying. It is worth the trip and the visit, but the rest of the town aside from the bakery is something to avoid. The authentic sausages meat sticks and other products have the best flavor and without a doubt the most original I have had in about 30 years. My family gets Kowalonek's kielbasy for every holiday, so I grew up eating it. It's absolutely delicious and my siblings and myself always end up fighting for the last piece. There's just never enough! In addition to the fresh kielbasy links my family prefers, they also offer smoked kielbasy links, kielbasy sticks, kielbasy loaf (oh yeah, make a sammich outta that), among plenty of other choices. Take a number just inside the door to the right if it's busy. We entered mid-Saturday afternoon with no line or wait and at least 5 people behind the counter to help you. We did stop here about 30 years ago after reading a newpaper article. Now for the good stuff. Take your time and carefully look at each item around the outside frozen and cold cases to find things like "church pierogies" made locally, $7.50 for 12. Haluski, cabbage and noodles, were in round pans, seemed to be homemade flat squares of noodles, not too think, and mixed in with a perfect amount of cabbage, good flavor. "Sweet" sausage we were told was like an Italian sausage, nice grind, good seasoning. Cherry cheesecakes the size of a cupcake were in the cold case made by Stoltzfus Bakery, meaning Amish, so good, $4.50 for 6! Frankies tomato pie, squares of dough topped with a good sauce, no cheese, 12 to a box, no refrigeration needed. Can't stop here with getting a kielbasa something so we got 2 rings of fresh and 2 rings of smoked. Our last item was peppered bacon, was OK, but not enough pepper tastings for us. We did pass on the 3 lb rye bread that looked so good. Prices are very reasonable too! It's not that far from Rt. 81 so exit for the short ride but stop at Dutch Kitchen for some great foods including Bleenies, a potato cake. You can even charge your car at 1 of the 4 chargers in their huge lot. read more
