Skippers Dippers is a hidden gem, located right outside of Tamaqua on 309. I stopped here with a buddy after a nine mile hike, we were both craving Ice Cream so a stop here hot the spot. We were greeted by the young staff as soon as we entered and perused the menu looking at all the different ice cream flavors/options. I ended up getting a peanut butter cup cyclone and my buddy got a sundae. The ice cream came out quick to the table, and hit the spot, it was delicious. Skippers Dippers also has food and has specials on certain nights with the food like a burger night. Next time I'm in the area I will stop at Skippers Dippers. read more

Passing by all the time on route 309 we never noticed they served breakfast. What a pleasant surprise! Generous portion and reasonable prices, no need to go to McD's. The dining room is cozy, decorated seasonally and even has a fireplace. The facility is clean and does more tricks than just ice cream. Well worth the visit. We'll be regulars from now on. Breakfast went down hill. Breakfast special wasn't good at all and seemed to be overcharged. Paid for all 3 orders. Ordered one special with onion and onions came on both specials. Great find along 309. Their chili passed the "they care about the quality of their food" as it had good spice, some sweetness, black beans and red beans, onions, green peppers, and good quality burger. Fries were great and pierogies were perfectly done. Ice cream Sunday and shakes were also very good, with solid selection of scoop flavors. If we are ever again in the area we'll definitely make it a planned food stop. Oh, and great prices for good quality road-side food. read more

Yes, the name is kind of lame but the frozen goodies are wonderful. Pretty much any kind of sundae, shake, or frozen concoction you could possibly want and they are the only purveyors of SlushPuppy slushies in the area. They also have burgers and hotdogs made to order and all sorts of fried foods. Visiting my parents and wanted to go someone different for lunch. Had been here often in the past for ice cream, but enjoyed my first meal. Prices are good, with someone for everyone. My pulled pork sandwich was large and tasty. Others in my party had the BLT, steak sandwich and chicken no one had any complaints. We shared fries which were crisp on the outside and tasted wonderful. Only suggestion would be to maybe offer chips and a pick to the sandwich selections. Staff was friendly and prompt. Great little place for the road weary. We had our 1 year old grand daughter & the Golden Retriever in tow. The weather was beautiful so we ate outside at a picnic table in the shade. The dawg hung out with us and and chased balls. The folks from the restaurant kindly brought our food out, greeted everyone, and brought ice cold water for the dawg. Well, skipper dipper has pissed me off yet again with their operating hours. They advertise that they are open until 10pm, but I got there at 9:30 tonight and they already were closed. Skipper Dippers used to be my favorite place to get ice cream. The last 3 times I was there, the wait was FOREVER and the girls seemed to have no clue what they were doing. Every time I go they seem to make my favorite sundae different. The prices are also through the roof! You are better off stopping at Turkey Hill and getting a half gallon which will last you a lot longer and is a lot cheaper. I don't know what happened to Skippers!! read more

I love the ice cream at Skipper Dipper's and will continue to come here on a regular basis; however, recently, every time I have gone the chocolate soft serve is too mushy and won't stay on the cone. The service is uneven; some servers are excellent, and others are just phoning it in. Clean restaurant and clean bathroom. If you are looking for some drive-in type food between the Hazleton and Frackville exits on Rt. 81, stop in here. read more
