My trauma history was controlling so much of my life, I felt I couldn't bear much more suffering. I could have never imagined the level of peace and clarity I now possess. Emma Chiriac offers psychotherapy and somatic coaching in English, Romanian, and Spanish. Currently, mid pandemic, Emma is operating online and providing therapy and coaching via Zoom. She offers a free 20 minute consultation for you to ask questions and to determine if you're a good fit to work together. Personally, I walked away from that interaction looking forward to starting our work together. Living with unresolved trauma history, or PTSD, can be a living hell. My brain and body felt like my captor, from which there was no escape. I had tried nearly everything that western medicine suggests as treatments for trauma, and nothing had worked for me. Some treatment even aggravating my trauma responses, as I felt further traumatized and misunderstood by several medical professionals. Emma works under a completely different model than what people typically think of when you imagine a therapist. This wasn't just "talk therapy," it was somatic coaching. While I was driven to her for this very reason, I was so shut down and guarded, that it was difficult for me in the beginning. But Emma was incredibly patient and even nurturing...something foreign to me when working with a therapist. Despite whatever happened in our session, I would still leave feeling hopeful and like I was, and would continue to, make progress. We had some major break thrus in our work together and the work became easier and easier. There was suddenly a shift. I no longer felt as if I were one tragedy away from "losing it." As I became more aware to how my body warned me of incoming trauma responses, utilized new coping, self soothing and grounding skills, the more my window of tolerance and confidence in my abilities grew. While I still manage triggers, my responses are much milder and I'm typically able to quickly ground and regulate myself. My chronic illnesses are often blamed on childhood trauma, yet, that use to make no sense to me. No one could really explain WHY, just quote statistics and push pills as the answer. Emma was able to help me make the connections, understand it all, and then put in place strategies for self care, awareness and regulation. As a result, I've had a tremendous ease in my chronic pain conditions. I am incredibly thankful that Emma came in to my life. Her guidance, compassion, and encouragement have had such an impact on my life, it can be felt by my friends and loved ones. My relationships have grown stronger as I have opened up, allowed people in and learned how to communicate my needs and maintain boundaries. I was Dr. Sanders client for 3 years. When she wanted to terminate therapy she did that over the…read morephone with my husband while I was going through a severe crisis. When I called her asking for clarification, she attacked me stating that I contacted her too many times while I was in crisis and that she cannot handle this anymore. Then she released a diagnosis she never discussed or even mentioned to me to another provider which calumniated the situation. For two years after termination, I suffered from PTSD symptoms as well as guilt because I thought that I was responsible for what happened. I tried to contact her to get clarification about my diagnosis or what happened, yet she never responded. It is not till I started seeing another provider did I came to know that what happened was not my fault and understand the extent of the damage she caused me. Despite all that I decided to try and put that horrible experience behind me and try to move on, yet she made that impossible as she decided to file a restraining order against me claiming that her life is in danger. I had to hire a lawyer to defend myself which is a great burden given my limited financial means. The case is still pending a hearing. Update: I lost the case, Dr. Sanders asked me in court to waive my rights and I did thinking that she will never disclose information I shared with her in private. Yet she not only did that,she also stated the information in a way to serve her purpose. I could not say anything against her in Court. It was really hard seeing her, I was unable to say anything against her in open court. I appealed without a lawyer and lost. Everything was taken out of context to make me look bad. I am still fighting to prove my innocence, yet I do not have much hope. Wish me luck!!

Her office is private, secure and comfortable. I don't have to interact with any other individuals when coming into the office. I let myself in with the provided code and wait in her specific waiting area. The therapy that I have been receiving has been very beneficial to me and helpful when it comes to navigating certain situations when they arise. I look forward to continuing on this path and truly believe that everyone can benefit from some form of therapy.

Dr. Byerley is very personable and attentive. Her initial evaluation interview is extremely thorough and takes approximately an hour plus. She asked comprehensive questions and the evaluation requires assessment of both cognitive and emotional process. Both my husband and I found her comfortable to work with. After spending the day performing a variety of numerous cognitive test, the results are compiled by Dr. Byerley and the findings are shared with us in a couple of weeks. The test findings provide current strengths and weaknesses since my last evaluation. Beneficial for my physicians when designing a treatment plan and extremely helpful for me understanding, and accepting, my progress and areas of weakness. It's a long day but worth the time and effort. I've been a patient at Neuropsychology Associates for 8 years now and I highly recommend. The physicians and staff are phenomenal and everyone is helpful and friendly.

However, when it comes to education of her patient and operation of her office, she comes off very abrasive and condescending. Rather than attempting to have a conversation about the treatment she is prescribing, she gives you "generalized" papers that appears as though they were just copied from a book. The patient is pressed quickly for payment and feels rushed out of the office. Voicemails (questions) and online questions go unanswered. It makes the patient feel unvalued and unimportant. I have never seen any office staff or other patients in the office while I am there. Seems very odd. She has had conversations with her vendors/computer providers with me in her office. She was very pushy to the point of being extremely rude, not to mention a waste of my time. While I value her expertise in her field, I cannot continue to go to her. She doesn't know how to run a medical practice, which is sad, given her obvious knowledge of her subject matter.
