I've been getting my haircut from D for several months now and I appreciate his attention to detail every time I come in for a haircut. I usually come in every 2-3 weeks... and setting an appointment up with him is very easy and efficient. This is not your normal barbershop experience where you can be there for hours on in waiting. D has his own spot and books appointments throughout the week and his prices are great! He offers more than an average barbershop. You always get a fresh shave or beard line up included with your haircut. I get fades when I come to D and I always leave looking fresh. Shoutout to D for the fresh cut. After reading reviews on here and checking him out on Instagram, I decided that Kraken was the place to go. Booking online was simple. The location was perfect and easy to find. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he made it happen... Exactly! You can tell that he enjoys what he does and that he takes pride in his work. It was refreshing to sit in a chair and talk about life. I've been to so many shops in the past where I felt like I couldn't be myself, and here I felt at home. New to SLC and still trying to find "That" barber shop. I called Kraken to set up an appointment and the lady who answered said there is no wait, to just walk in, so I hurried over there. Parking, I almost walked into the tattoo shop. No ink for me today. Found the Kraken barber shop and to my surprise I had two people in front of me with only one barber. The lady said the other barber should of been there by now. Waited about 45mins, no other barber and no update. I called SkullCuters down the street and set up an appointment and the wait was 30 mins. This isn't "That" barber shop amigos. My barber shop search continues. read more

First off, I'll give you the short and sweet review: Kraken is great and I absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a precision haircut or shave. The barbers are young, friendly, and effective. They take pride in their craft, and I respect that. I have difficult cowlicks with wire straight hair, which forces me to choose my barbers and stylists selectively (I've been through a few dozen professionals whom couldn't make the grade when it came to my deceptively unruly mop). At Kraken, I have never left the three of four chairs of the barbers I've seen unhappy with the results. Did I mention Beowulf? He's the shop's mascot -- a handsome husky with a very mellow temperament. If you dislike or are allergic to dogs, set an appointment or do a walk-in in the afternoon when Beowulf goes home for the day. He's a part timer; lazy bum! A few critiques do spring to mind, however. Nowhere is perfect, right? Some of the barbers are more thorough than others. Freddy G. will include cleaning up the edges around your forehead, trimming your eyebrows, and removing any hair growing in/around your ears in the cost of a regular cut. I'd like to see everyone follow that example by default. A board listing all the barbers along with a photo and their regular hours could be a nice addition. The interior could be a little nicer with a more put-together layout would do a great deal for the feel of the shop. Lastly (that I can think of for now, anyway), carrying a wider range of styling products would be awesome. I don't think Kraken carries something similar to Fiber by American Crew, which gives a truly dry look. I don't generally ask for product after a cut because I am looking for that touchable matte finish and what they do have doesn't get close to it. None of the above are deal breakers by any means, but they would definitely help improve the experience. Kraken is my jam, and I suspect it will be yours as well once you pay them a visit. read more

Was visiting family for New Year's and was in desperate need for a haircut, so instead of asking my sister in-law for a quick trim I did what any sane person would do and turned to Yelp for help... After reading a few reviews for different barber shops I decided on going to Kraken, quick call to make sure they were open and I was on my way. I walked in and the vibe of the place is pretty cool.. had to wait for about 20 or 25 minutes which was not bad since it was the Saturday before New Year's. While waiting I saw how detailed and patient the guys were at cutting some kid's hair. So my turn comes and I get to seat in Freddy's chair and that's where the great experience began. I was greeted with a handshake and some light conversation. Freddy asked how I wanted my hair, I asked for a fade and a trim on top. I was glad to find out the beard trim and straight razor shave was included with the cut, something that I have to pay extra for in L.A. Freddy was great, I'm not big on talking with barbers and some can be somewhat pushy but not Freddy. He just asked how I wanted my hair and took it from there, dude sure knows what he's doing!
