Because of the condition of the recovered files, we were unable to determine whether our complete photo library had actually been recovered. We were told that missing files were likely mixed into the "Lost Files" recovery. After receiving the recovered data, we independently used recovery software costing less than $100 and recovered an intact 810 GB Mac Photos Library with organized chronological browsing by year and month. This recovery was substantially more usable and easier to verify than what we received from Secure Data Recovery. Had we understood that our primary photo library was not being delivered as a functioning Photos Library, we would have evaluated the value of the service very differently. We contacted the company multiple times regarding our concerns, asked questions about missing data, and requested additional assistance. After expressing our dissatisfaction and requesting further help, we did not receive any further response. This review reflects our personal experience and the recovery results we observed.

During that call, I was told that if I removed a negative review (about their Brooklyn location falsely being advertised as walk-in), they would lower the price to $900. Extortion, plain and simple. I declined, and when I finally got my phone back, I plugged it in and--lo and behold--it worked perfectly. Which means one of two things: 1. They were fully prepared to charge me $1,760 for "repairs" that were not necessary, or 2. They performed repairs without my consent, then failed to disclose it when returning the device. Either way, this is dishonest and exploitative. I'm relieved I got my data back, but I feel like I narrowly avoided being scammed out of a huge sum of money. Consumers deserve transparency and integrity--qualities this company clearly lacks.

UPDATE: tTe Geek Squad member who set up my laptop when I went to the store to find out when I would be able to get my laptop had it nearly ready and spent about 45 minutes with me getting some applications set up. He was polite, super helpful and great to work with. Updating my rating from 1 to 3 stars solely for this experience. That said, the store would benefit from having status updated in the app and a direct number to someone working in the store to answer the phone as dealing with a call center rep who is unable to help is a waste of time and a poor customer experience.
