Yes,…read moreit's a gym, and the new facility in the bottom level of 1722 I Street will blow your mind with all the new equipment and toys (no more stripper poles, just tons of mats, gloves, pads and other goodies). But more importantly, this place is a community. N-Flux has the best instructors and classes you will find anywhere in DC if you're interested in taking Krav Maga, Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, and all sorts of other martial arts and combat sports. Chris and Colleen are the best instructors I've ever seen. They don't just want you to get skills, they teach concepts, conditioning, and character. Part of the training is how to be a good classmate, and experienced students help newer students and welcome new people. As a result, you're not just coming for a workout, you walk away welcomed and encouraged to be the best you can be -in everything. The classes are challenging in the best way, even their Yoga classes (and I hated yoga before I took N-Flux yoga with the amazing Scott and Maicie!). Chris and Colleen are tough and push you to be your best. Since starting, I've lost 25 pounds, gained 25 new friends, and according to my work colleagues, "am the happiest I've ever been." This place is way more than a gym and you won't know what you're missing until you come try it for yourself.

BS is owned and operated by local strongman and former CrossFit gym owner Steve Michael - an incredibly knowledgeable, experienced, and generally strong dude. Steve's approach combines the best of old-school, no-nonsense training methods with a friendly, laid-back sense of humor. His training style is encouraging and fun without being intimidating at all, and his classes are a diverse mix of all ages/genders/body types/fitness levels with a common desire to get stronger and get in better shape. In summary, I HIGHLY recommend this as an alternative to your typical group strength training classes (like CrossFit) where you don't get a lot of individual attention, and the focus is just on cranking out a bajillion reps until oblivion and without proper form. It's also wonderful the classes incorporates skills and values like respect, self-esteem, self-control, and responsibility. The 'Tiny Tigers' class is excellent and does a great job of making the activities and instruction fit well for kids of different ages and skill levels. Even small things, like at the end of class Master Breunig will put his hand up high (depending on how old the kid is) and each kid tries to jump up to hit him with a high five. The kids love it, and it's something that can be tailored to small and bigger kids. Now, there is lots of turn over. Tonight, I thought I made a reservation but for some reason it didn't go through. Nevertheless, I showed up at class and the reformer was available so I proceeded to the class. The instructor was very rude and told me I could not attend the class until I spoke with someone at the main office (mind you, it was 7:15 pm and the office was closed). She treated me as if I was stealing the class, I explained to her that I've been going here for many years, showed her my remaining membership credits, and informed her that I texted the RTR number informing them I was at the class so my membership could be deducted. After about 10 minutes of waiting and lost class time, she walked up to me, asked me my name, and added me to the class. Why she chose to not do that to begin with was quite bizarre. It took 2 seconds. Over the years, I've learned to modify exercises to not exasperate my back. However, this instructor was so rude that loudly argued with me as I modified the exercise in a way I've done for years and I do every time the exercise is done. While this specific incident is the first of its kind, the care for customers has substantially declined and I'll sadly be taking my business elsewhere. We pay too much money for such low quality service.
