I've been living a COVID friendly life and was looking to get back in shape so my friend and I tried this place out. I called in to schedule a free class and spoke with Victor. Did the class and expressed my concerns afterwards. 1. I was looking for a gym that had 5am or 6am classes. The earliest they had was 7am. 2. I wanted to train with an instructor who worked out both sides of the body to prevent muscle imbalances & potential injuries. 3. A NASM certified instructor is always preferred. I'm flexible with NASM however I'd like the person training me to know the muscles and what they do. None of these points were demonstrated in the class I took. I also experienced brief static stretching before the class. For those of you who do not know, static stretching puts the muscles to sleep. We did this before and after the workout. BRIEFLY. This was another concern of mine as most of the muscles we used during that work out were not at all warmed up. Lastly, I received a text later in the week. I started training with Krav Maga Worldwide a few years ago and everything was going well. It was going well up until I had an interaction with an instructor here that changed everything for me. I was sold on doing a private lesson with Kevin Casey because he seemed very knowledgeable in martial arts and with his background being an MMA fighter I thought it would be cool to have him teach me a few things and possibly purchase some more sessions with him. Unbeknownst to me, he had another agenda. Toward the end of my lesson, he grabbed me in a sexual way (i.e. between my legs and slapped my behind a few time) and when I told him to stop he did it again. I calmly got up and tried to diffuse the situation. So I could leave safely, after all, he is a trained MMA fighter. This was appalling and I was clearly upset but it didn't stop there. He proceeded to call my phone and text me over and over again trying to cover his tracks. He tried covering it up and then blatantly lying. It didn't work. I knew what he was doing. He then tried to intimidate me at my job. And when I avoided him at all costs he admitted that he did grab me sexually inappropriately but he wouldn't do it by text. As he did so many times before. He called me and admitted it. I didn't want to answer but a friend was with me and heard everything he said. You know what he said... "I figured I'd try." But that is not the most disgusting part. Yes, I was a little worried that someone so well connected in LA could reach out and get to me at any time without even being there, but I had to do something. So I reported him to everyone I could think of, Blackhouse MMA where we had our private lesson, the police, as well as Krav Maga where I met him and where he taught WOMEN and men. They pulled me in for a meeting exchanged emails with me, reviewed the evidence of him harassing me and admitting to sexual battery, and even used my reports for HR meetings centered on sexual harassment, but I recently found out they did nothing about this predator. He currently still works there and still harasses women at this company. This clearly was not his first time preying on women. Krav is supposed to be a place where women can go and learn how to protect themselves and have confidence in themselves and their abilities. But how can anyone trust a company that ultimately disregards the safety of their students? How can we as consumers feel like we are in good hands when an instructor has another agenda? I wish this never happened and I wish I could say the nice things I once said about this establishment... ________________________________________________________ In response to Bianca. Dear Bianca, I must respectfully tell the truth here. As you know, this situation was very traumatizing for me ad I don't appreciate things being swept under the rug. I sent over proof of this situation to the higher-ups at this establishment in the form of text messages, a recorded phone call (after being harassed by text, he decided to call and I wanted him to stop contacting me, thought telling him on the phone would make it clear, it didn't), also there was a police report (you may not have received it but I would be happy to resend also the cops went by Blackhouse MMA while I was at the station but the manager had already suspended his private coaching privileges at that time so he wasn't there, unfortunately the cops could look for a needle in a haystack as I do not know where this man lives or anything about his private life like where he would be or not be), and I spoke with a manager at my former job about it as well. So, I can tell you that (1) clearly he admitted to it because in our conversation you told me so. (2) You didn't reach out to my former job because she would've have told you about the conversation we had (I left the company shortly after anyway). (3) I only met with him once for the training session and never again after that (so please don't bring up false information about my meeting him). (4) I chose not to put all of our emails and calls online (and on Yelp), but if you didn't receive them I can do that. I can understand you wanting to defend your company by any means necessary even if that means trying to make someone who spoke up about it, literally played you a phone call of him admitting it, and did all I could to show you what was happening behind your back. But it comes to a point where enough is enough. I regret that you didn't see this being worth your while to look into further, seeing as I never heard anything again, but I'm not about to let someone treat me this way, spread false information to cover for a sly predator, and try to make me look like the liar on top of it. I've been coming here for a year now, so I think it's been a good sample size for a gym review. And I have to say I LOVE THIS PLACE! Their actual Krav Maga classes are great, but what makes this place stand out is versatility. If I want to take a class with weightlifting they have it. Kickboxing? They have it too. They also have classes that help with your mobility and Thai pad classes. I've gone to a 24 hour fitness and a Muay Thai school. This place is the best of both worlds because I can do all of the above here, and it works well with my schedule too because they offer classes 7 days a week during most hours of the day. I really like the instructors here too. I can always go to them with questions about form, technique, and fitness in general, and they've always been happy to help. KMW has become a staple in my life because I'm here almost daily. I will say it's not the cheapest place out there, but it's not unreasonable either. But If you come consistently, then you won't even worry about the monthly dues after a while. It has brought so much value and positivity to my life, that I don't really sweat the monthly dues anymore. The facility itself is clean. Parking is easy, the locker room is clean and has small stuff like mouth wash available. Overall, I think it's worth it because of the skills you learn, the shape you'll get into, and the overall value it'll bring if you just show up! read more

When I saw that they billed me for this month I contacted them immediately but they said they could not refund me the credit but instead gave me 3 months credit for free. If you've ever been interested in learning self-defense, you should definitely check out KMW. The curriculum is designed to get you ready to defend yourself as quickly as possible. You also learn how to defend against weapons (gun, knife, stick), which unfortunately is becoming more necessary in this day and age. And ladies, even if you don't sign up for a membership, they have Women's Self-Defense classes that are really worth checking out. They're taught by Kimberly Mills and she's awesome. I have been going there for a few months and I absolutely love it. I have the package where I can take Krav Maga, strength and conditioning and heavy bag work, I think it's the best way to get in shape and have fun while doing it, I've learned the basics of krav and feel like I'm getting stronger, the more you do it the better. Most places will offer free demo lessons, check out a few different places, the instructors, pricing, and number of classes. I have been training at Krav Maga Sherman Oaks for over two years, and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I tell everyone about it and every person I have brought with me to try it out has absolutely loved it too. I am a very athletic person and I enjoy exercising, but I get bored easily. I have tried all kinds of different fitness programs, and have also done karate and kung fu. I have given up on all of them until Krav Maga. I actually look forward to working out and have schedules posted in my car, on my fridge and in my office so I always know when I can go to class next. The staff and instructors are incredibly friendly and after only a few sessions, you'll realize you are among family. The program itself is challenging, interesting, engaging, and an amazing work out. The way the program is set up, you feel like you can jump right in and not like you are the "weird new guy/girl." And there is so much variety offered - classic krav maga, ground fighting, thai pads, brazilian jiu jitsu, yoga.... And a membership gets you in to both the Sherman Oaks and the larger West LA club (with even MORE classes). While it may be more expensive than an LA Fitness membership, trust me, it is worth it! I put my membership on hold for a few months to see if I could save money by going to the regular gym. But I never went! Running on a treadmill and mindlessly lifting weights is SOOO boring!!!! I couldn't wait to get back to Krav and I have no question in my mind that the cost is well, well worth it. Why pay to NOT work out when you can pay a few bucks more and LOOK FORWARD to working out?!! Plus, the self-defense techniques can one day save your life, and there is no price tag on that. *EXPLOSIVE!!* After I came to my first class, I was telling everyone and their mom(no, seriously I did tell some moms) about it. It was different from spinning, the bar method, TKB, and piloxing(pilates and boxing). I felt completely empowered and rejuvenated after walking out of here my first class. Mind you, I was running about 5mins late so I was thrown into the mix right away. With a reassuring nudge from the instructors, I went in with an open mind and a willingness to learn anything and everything they had worthwhile to teach(which was pretty much everything). The instructors were patient and very helpful with showing me how to deliver moves correctly and effectively. My partner, another woman I partnered up with there, was patient and really a sweetheart for letting me grab, kick, and ghost elbow her. A part of me really thinks she enjoyed the fact that I kept apologizing every time i manhandled her. What can I say? How many people do you know who will really allow you to freely hit and kick them? It was a great workout. I felt stronger, empowered, and "prepared" compared to how I was feeling when I walked in about an hour and a half prior. Not only does Krav Maga keep you in shape, but it teaches you how to react in a volatile situation and take control of it. Man, what better life lesson is there but that? Signing up killed a 20 year cigarette addiction and after 1 month I have muscles I never knew existed. The classes are not easy or slow paced by any means. you are thrown right into the action as of day one. Please take several classes with different instructors to find one you are comfortable with. Some are militant UFC types and others teach the real world defense which I signed up to learn. If you want to learn some great skills and feel safer walking down a dark alley, this is for you. You will be put into shape FAST. I recommend KMW over any other martial art and I have taken a few. The workout is intense and like I said, you are thrown right in, which is awesome. Also a bonus, you can train as often as you like, you're not limited to once or twice weekly like with most other MA or MMA centers. read more

I have to say that whole goal of martial arts, in my opinion, is to release the soul in ways that exact its deadly power. That saying, it should be spiritual. But Krav Maga is not a spiritual program. It is a self defense program. When I went to sign up, I told them I wanted something spiritual and they hurried me into signing a contract. Unfortunately, I signed and have to pay for the consequences. When you dread going a class as much as I do this, it deserves a 1 star. I used to wrestle, play football, and even boxed briefly. The way these classes are set up, they teach you a basic move each time, with no set curriculum. You just get what you get. No teacher really watching you improve, it's just get warmed up, start punching bags, and drill drill drill. Not the most enlightened place I've been to. read more

I used to be the guy in the gym, lifting weights. I started Krav Maga in January of 2012, and not only have I not set foot in a gym since that day, but I'm without-a-doubt in the best shape of my life. I actually have a 6-pack, which always eluded me in weight training. :) At $139 per month, this is significantly more expensive than your average gym membership ... but there are a TON of classes offered at different times of the day, and there's no limit to how many you can attend (within your skill level, of course). Plus, instead of just getting fit, you're learning the most brutal self-defense system known to man. Not a bad price, if you ask me. Don't be intimidated. People of all ages and body types are represented in the KM classes I've attended. Be ready to work your ass off--but also know that you'll see results faster doing this than just about anything else you'll find. This is worth saying, because as human beings we have a tendency to take things for granted--but there is no other Krav Maga center in the country with instructors as advanced as there are here. Instructors from other cities fly to Los Angeles for their testing. In a nutshell, the opportunity for growth is bigger here than you'll find just about anywhere else outside of Israel. I have a mean streak a mile long (which you may already know if you've read some of my other reviews, wink wink!) and last summer I found myself wishing I had a better outlet for my road rage. I started poking around and I found Krav Maga, an intense form of street fighting that takes the most effective moves from all the martial arts and blends them into a deadly system. Further, the training is designed to create efficient, confident and capable fighters in a very short period of time. I signed on to a contract (which I never should have done) so that my down payment would be lower. The training is expensive but can easily substitute a gym membership, and you can go month to month. The classes are centered mostly in the later part of the day, which was not conducive to my schedule, but I really enjoyed them and found them to be very challenging. This is a great martial art to sign up for if you've never done any kind of training before, as you learn good technique and form that will carry over into other kinds of martial arts. Also, fight classes are separate from regular instruction, so if you wish to spar you can, but you won't be forced to. It's a wonderful thing to do if you're a woman, the first class I attended I was taught to gouge out eyeballs. It sounds a little gruesome, but I am less afraid walking around at night after that! read more

I am totally addicted! I used to be a personal trainer and I am very used to high impact cardio-intensive workouts. So I was impressed that the instructors here really give me my money's worth! The combo of the fitness/defense classes are perfect for me and I love doing a fitness class followed by a self defense class. Not only do I get a great workout, but I am also learning skills that I can use to protect myself! In response to other people's comments about teacher styles...I've been to at least 3 classes with each teacher and understand how some can be a bit forceful but all of the teachers are incredibly knowledgeable, care about really teaching technique properly, and are results oriented. If you don't like the style of one teacher, there are others to choose from. Each brings a different flavor. Personally, I like all of them. Also about pricing, I actually don't think it's expensive at all because I go frequently and treat it like a gym membership. This is the greatest thing you can do for yourself. It's a great workout, a great self defense and, for some of us, a great stress reliever. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed. Raymond Ayala will greet you with a big smile and show you the facility and after you try one class, you'll be hooked! All of the instructors are great, they take time during the training to help you one-on-one with the techniques being taught- in a friendly and encouraging way. This is not like a gym, there aren't any judgments being cast, everyone in class is there to learn and benefit from it. When I started I was way out of shape and had a hard time keeping up, but it's been a couple months and the results are amazing! Most importantly, though, is the confidence that you build. As a fairly new member ( joined in February) I'm not very impressed with how this gym handles their customers and membership issues. I'm sure lots of members are currently facing economic hardship lately, given the current circumstances we are all faced with. When you contact them to ask about cancelling your membership, the response they give is that they can freeze your account for up to 3 months. Beyond that there is nothing they can do. Who the hell knows what their situation is going to be in 3 weeks let alone 3 months. Based on my dealings with their customer service representatives, I regret ever having joined this gym to begin with. read more

The KM Worldwide instructors will take you from the beginning to as far as you could ever want to go. Very safety conscious. Professional, friendly staff and friendly environment where other students are receptive and helpful to newcomers. No egos or meatheads here. It's never too late to start. I started at the age of 52; lost 14 pounds in the first two months and got into great shape while learning critical defensive skills. With the things I have seen as an attorney, I encourage everyone to have some basics in self defense.
