I had Kreations Mckinleyville replace the fender on my Explorer. They gave it back to me leaking from the engine bay and missing hardware from the front grill to the roof rails to the back bumper (hardware they admitted that they THREW AWAY). There was contamination in the clearcoat / paint and they gave me my car back dirtier than when I gave it to them. They didn't paint in the door jam and left bare metal on the body when I got it back the first time. They damaged my old parts too. like stepping on my old fender and scratching the headlight, knowing I wanted it back. They tried making it right, but it's still not "pre accident condition" and I don't want them touching my car anymore. I can't recommend this place. Their techs and Mckinleyville manager don't seem to know what they are doing. It's a shame my car was their test subject to mess up, considering AAA recommended them to fix my car. read more

Got 2 estimates in person on a very minor cosmetic scratch and key mark--one from Kreations Body Shop, and one from Perkins in Arcata--just to see if Kreations' was in the same ballpark. The guy at Kreations quoted me orally:$680.00 for parts and "a little bit more for labor." I thought this was high, so l got an estimate on paper from Perkins. His written estimate was about $100.00 higher. I hesitated to make the actual appointment, but Kreations called me to set a date. I do not have comprehensive insurance coverage, and took time to set aside money for this. I picked up the car this afternoon. I am still reeling from sticker shock. Imagine my surprise to find that the initial estimate from Kreations had been revised in their official e-mail estimate--$2,000.00 + higher! I SHOULD HAVE OPENED THAT DOCUMENT BEFORE I SENT IN THE CAR. BUYER BEWARE! I was offered nothing to sign until the work was actually done. This feels like some version of bait and switch, but it appears it really is my own fault for assuming that the email was a copy of the initial estimate. I will NEVER consider using Kreations again for any auto body work. I feel l was ripped off. Initially l thought their $680.00 estimate to cosmetically repair this scratch was high, but they had done minor repairs on two other cars l owned, and l believed their bid on this job was lower than Perkins. They failed to clearly and boldly ORALLY communicate to me their revised price--which l needed to make my best decision. They assumed l carry comprehensive insurance, but l don't--so their talk about being compensated by my insurance company did not console me. IT INFURIATED ME. Had a shopping cart slammed into the rear trunk on my Cadillac recently and it left a pretty good sized dent and chipped the paint. I looked around and Kreations Auto Body is not only conveniently located to my home, they worked with my insurance agent, which made the process that much easier. This is a great auto body shop. They took the time to make sure all my concerns were addressed and even followed up with the claims adjuster as needed to get the job done right. This was about as painless as it could be all considering. The staff and personnel are all professional and courteous, Ryan runs a tight shop and crew, and this place gets in and gets it done right the first time. My little fix was a minor repair, not a lot of money in it and they still took the time and treated me fairly and professionally. So, after making arrangements with my adjuster, I literally just dropped my car off that the shop on a Tuesday and picked it back up that same Friday - easy breezy. It looked great - and I could not be more pleased with the work. They worked with my insurance company, no out of pocket on my end and the work was flawless. After hearing about their experience and comparing to other body shops it appears that this place is not above ripping off their customers to rake in extra money. I remember creations being the only place I wanted to take my cars after my Mazda. But if you look at my sonata, the headlight is pertruding from the side and they were to lazy to screw back in a few peices. With regards to that, my car thinks the hood is always open and doesn't lock properly. The guys who changed my oil said it looked "sloppy". My insurance paid you good money to fix it.! Kreations-nightmare I cannot recommend Kreations in McKinleyville for boat repair anymore or for cars for that matter. Here's my story as best I can recall. Two years ago I had an axle come loose while towing the 23' whaler to Crescent City for a late season Tuna run. That loose axle pulled the tire into the fender, which pulled it into the glass bottom of the boat. This was an insurance job and I took it to Kreations. They did a spectacular repair job and in a very timely manner. Since then I had recommended them highly here and elsewhere in the boating world. Last Fall I thought my hull had enough dings and cracks that I would take it in on my dime and get them to do another great job. I towed the boat in to Kreations and parked it on the 10th. The bid ($2,187.64) seemed fair and I was told it would be a few weeks. I wanted to park it in the barn before winter I said. Turns out an unexpected dive trip to Bali for two weeks in November turned up and I bought the tickets to leave Nov 15th. I called Kreations and they said it would be done before I left. Then they moved pick-up date to the first week I would be gone, so I arranged for a friend to pick up boat and I paid for the job on November 14th. I left the next day for two weeks. When I returned boat was not done and this started many a phone call asking about completion dates. At that point I even offered to pay more if the bid was too low and was told it was enough $. This went on thru December. I started calling again in the New Year and finally sometime in January I gave up calling. At this point I just could not believe what I was told anyway, as they never met the dates they had told me. Now those who know me know I value ethics and truth. This situation was not sitting too well with me. Mid-February I wrote the US boats consumer division and they gave me some guidance. I wrote to Ryan at Kreations and told him I was giving him one week to respond or I was turning it over to US boats consumers and if that failed we were going to Small Claims Court, as this was a no-brainer in court. I said I was picking the boat up in one month on March 20th, no matter what. He wrote back and said it would be done March 17th. On the 19th I sent an email asking if morning on the 20th was good to pick it up and was told it would be finished at 4pm. Now after five and a half months it was getting done one hour before pickup - yep sounds a bit crazy but that's what happened. Now after 5.5 months what was the job like, you may ask. Well first let me say that leaving a boat on the east side of a building all winter outside without a cover took its toll, and it took two washings to get the grime off. I was ready to tackle the repairs to get my boat back to how it was when I dropped it off. The battery hatch had 6 broken barrel nut screws on the hinges from heavy traffic in and outs so that hatch needed repair (epoxy and new screws), as did one hinge on the deck fish box. The engine had some overspray on it as well. The interior of all surfaces was dusted and filthy and after peeling found tape in hidden locations for a day or two. I'm feeling I'm almost back to even. In terms of the repair the largest section about 3 feet with tank rack/rod holders a shower spray head, and tank access, that large section was near perfect. The other 9-12 areas - many were not done at all and some are not color matched well at all. So it's about a 50/50 deal with the actual repairs. Five and half months and a so-so job. I called Kreations owner last week (Kevin in Rio Dell), who seemed like a straightforward guy. I told him this story before I went public with it. If you were taking a boat in for glass work, Rio Dell may still work for you (ask for Kevin), but do yourself a favor and leave the McKinleyville place alone or at best plan on a long ordeal with an uncertain outcome with more frustration than the job is worth.
