Dr. Spigelman -- where do I begin?…read more I guess I'll start more than 15 years ago, when my grandmother became his patient after another surgeon blinded one of her eyes for a routine procedure. At 70+ years old, things looked hopeless for her. After coming to Dr. Spigelman and being treated for a number of years, she was shocked one day; my grandmother opened her eyes and saw out of her prior blind eye. Fast forward to 2015, and I came to see the doctor for vision correction. The only surgery I knew of was LASIK, and after a few tests, Dr. S suggested an alternative procedure to correct my eyesight. He knew I was nervous and reassured me things would be okay, specifying the technique he used, pre and post op procedures, and even explained that several members of his family -- and he, too -- have undergone vision correction. His bedside manner and warmth are rare traits amongst many doctors these days, and I never felt like he rushed or like my concerns went unheard. He really made me feel as comfortable as possible and his staff were also kind and helpful during the process. There were many laughs shared with his staff and they were incredibly thorough and explained the post-op effects like blurriness of vision on the second day. The doctor checked in regularly after my procedure and was very attentive, asking me to come in for post-op appointments to make sure everything looked great. The most impressive thing to me was that all of the pre and post operation appointments were included in the price for the surgery -- the cost and breakdown were very transparent, and ultimately, very reasonable for what I got. Long story short, Dr. Spigelman restored my vision too. His hands, knowledge, and approach are truly transformational. Three years later, not a day goes by where I don't wake up to see things clearly or don't enjoy activities without the aid of glasses and contacts. Dr. Spigelman, thank you for the gift of vision!

For four months I went without being able to see well enough to drive (and by the way, I am not retired and had to figure out how to work during that time). It was such a stressful experience and each time I went back for a followup appointment, the attitude was, "Hey, we're awesome, it's your eyes that aren't working." Zero empathy for the fact that I couldn't see. Also continually refused to give me corrective lenses so I could function. I finally gave up on them and returned to my regular eye doctor to complete the followup treatment (and lo and behold, they were able to put me into corrective lenses so I could actually, finally return to being a fully functioning adult!). It was a horrid experience. So horrid that I am not even willing to let them do the contract guaranteed touchup. The level of stress that office created was off the charts. And then, as if the in-office treatment wasn't bad enough, they told me they'd waive the copay for my initial followup appointment, and then sent me bills and threatened to turn me over to collections, for a whooping $50. I would never recommend this place. Do not trust your eyesight to this office. I wish I had checked the reviews before going there because now I can see that mine is a pretty common experience, unfortunately.

The receptionist said she wasn't familiar with those treatments and I would have to come in for a consultation to be quoted. I told her this wouldn't work as I had already been to another consultation hours away just to get a quote only to be told that it was out of my range and my insurance didn't cover it. I asked her again, for a price quote for out of pocket price. She said she would ask the doctor. His response was to come in for a consultation and he has other unspecified treatments he can offer. I asked her what these treatments were, and explained again the distance, cost, not to mention it would likely not be covered now that I had already done another consult elsewhere; she couldn't answer the question. I understand that all physicians want to bill for a consultation; but at what point does this become not only illogical, but also unethical? Your receptionists don't know what kind of treatments you offer, or what they cost. Treatments aren't covered by insurance, but you can't share the out of pocket cost up front? Why would you want a patient to pay money for a consult if you're not even sure they'd be able to access the care/not sure you even provide the care they need? Sounds like an insurance scam to me! Anyway, leaving this here in case you're looking for the same. I'd recommend avoiding this physician, he doesn't appear to take his hippocratic oath seriously.

I had Lasik at Windsor Laser Eye Institute in 2004. Prior to my surgery, I was fairly nearsighted…read morewith significant astigmatism. I couldn't see well enough to go out without corrective lenses, but my contacts were becoming unbearably painful due to the astigmatism and glasses were a huge pain. Enter Dr. Tayfour. I went to his clinic for a free initial consult, and learned I was a good candidate for Lasik. I paid a little extra to receive the Wavefront technology, which at the time was very new but said to improve surgery results. One of the factors that gave me confidence in this clinic was that Dr. Tayfour focuses exclusively on performing surgeries, while other professionals in the clinic do most of the exams. The research I found online suggested that the primary factor associated with a positive Lasik outcome is the number of prior surgeries the surgeon has done, with a critical threshhold in the low hundreds. Dr. Tayfour had done several thousand at the time I had my surgery. The day of the surgery, I had an adverse reaction to the Valium they provide prior to surgery and became quite anxious. I chose to go through with it anyway, so the staff sent an extra nurse into the OR just to hold my hand and soothe me through the surgery. The surgery itself was . . .weird. Gross. Exactly as it had been described. Not painful, but uncomfortable. And fast. When it was over, I was given an Ativan and a granola bar. After about an hour and a quick examination, I was sent home with big plastic sunglasses to wear. My eyes hurt horribly, and I couldn't see a thing when I managed to painfully pry my eyelids open. I almost immediately passed out when I got home. Maybe 6 hours later, I woke up and realized I could sort of blurrily half-see. "Oh crap," I thought, "I've gone blind." Then the morning came, and I opened my eyes to total clarity. I could see every number on my alarm clock, all the way across the room. I had some side effects, including eye dryness that lasted about six months and some facial tenderness for about six weeks. Eyedrops took care of the former problem and time the latter. I do see some "starbursts" around lights, which is a common side effect from Lasik, but it's actually an improvement over the haze I would see from my astigmatism before the surgery. Dr. Tayfour and his clinic provide a few aftercare visits, during which they assess your vision and check that healing is going well. I was very satisfied with this care as well. The price was excellent--at the time, it was significantly cheaper than a comparable clinic in the US (though still in the thousands). However, the exchange rate at the time also favored the US dollar more than it does today. In 2010, I had my 5 year well vision check up. I see at 20/15, with no problems reading. I also calculated that I recently began saving money on the whole deal based on projections for what contact lenses, cleansers, glasses, etc. cost. I couldn't recommend the Windsor Laser Eye Institute or Dr. Tayfour more strongly.

I started with a first opinion from another doctor in the States, who told me that he could not in good faith recommend traditional LASIK, but instead would recommend LASEK (with an E, not an I), which is more uncomfortable and has a longer recovery time. Promptly said "no thank you" and called Windsor Laser Eye Institute for the same-day exam/procedure service they offer. The staff was very caring and soothed my anxieties, and Dr. Tayfour was approachable, but definitely a man who you knew took his job very seriously and spoke with years and years of experience under his belt. LASIK (with the I) would be no problem, he said. He instilled confidence in me from the moment I shook his hand. Surgery was superquick, completely painless (though maybe a tad uncomfortable at times), and overall a very easy procedure! But what seals the deal that I made the right decision is that when I go to my home-based optometrist for my 1/3/6/etc month checkups, that doctor is absolutely floored by the precision and down-right perfection of the surgery and Dr. Tayfour's work. He spends the entire exam looking in my eyes and saying under his breath "Wow... Simply incredible... Absolutely perfect. He [Dr. Tayfour] never misses..." He said he's never seen a more perfect cut than Dr. Tayfour's ("some come close, but I've never seen better" were his direct words). If that's not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. Oh, and I see better than 20/20 now, to boot! I wouldn't waste my time going anywhere other than Windsor Laser Eye Institute if I had to do it all over again.

Not only was she fantastic, but so was the nurse who I met with first for measurements and drops, and the front office staff! This place ran like a well oiled machine! He then did a second procedure a few weeks later. he told me that he does back to back procedures all of the time. After my tummy tuck my incision opened while I was still in the hospital when the nurse tried to get me out of bed. Dr Chau told the nurse he was out to eat and it wouldn't be until the end of the day that he came and he did not believe my incision opened because that doesn't happen. He finally got to the hospital and found it was open. He sewed me close in the hospital room in a non stream environment. My healing process was absolutely terrible. I have photos of my infection growing that my husband would send dr Chau and he would say "it's normal". My whole back ending up opening again at home due to the infection. I went septic before dr Chau would see me. I ended up having to go to the ER and have a surgery to scrape out infection and close me back. My stomach is crooked, my belly button is crooked and half of it hangs, my boobs are different sizes and definitely nowhere near what I wanted. I wouldn't trust dr Chau to work on my worst enemy. I beg you to go somewhere else. This man should not have a practice.
