    Griot (fried pork)

My wife was born in Haiti so we're always looking for quality Haitian food when we're in Orlando. We think we found the right spot at Kreyol Kafe. We ordered a variety of foods for take out since we're still careful about COVID. The food was perfectly cooked, served hot and very flavorful. If you're unfamiliar with Haitian food, order their chicken dishes and rice. You won't be disappointed, but I recommend the conch (see more below). We ordered: * Griot (fried pork) with rice and beans and fried plantains * Baked chicken with white rice and plantains * Fried chicken with rice and beans and plantains * Conch in kreyol sauce. It's a conch stew and it's delicious. Think very tender calamari. Amazing. I wish I had ordered a lot more since I had to share it with 3 other people. The food is outstanding, the condiments are perfect and I couldn't recommend it more. Try it. You won't be disappointed.

    Hard Griot- Awful

This place was recommended from a friend . The griot was hard and awful . Brought friends to try it out . Never coming back .

I've never tried Haitian food before, and I don't want to give a bad impression of the rest of the menu when all we tried were the lunch specials. Looking at reviews, the price went up multiple times this year. Instead of the original $3.99, the small side portions of stew and rice were raised to $6 each. The meat was disproportionate to the rice, so I ran out of it very quickly, and it was not boneless - so chew a lot before you swallow! The staff were incredibly gracious and kind, and the sitting area was clean! I hope the next time we visit that other things on the menu result in a more positive experience.

I like the food here, it is better than OK. So, to get a 4 star rating out of me, you really have to impress me. If you are a business based on "let's make some money", you will not get my attention. I like restaurants that are passionate about their food, with people that have eaten some good food, even places where grandma and auntie are helping in the kitchen. If you can't fulfill any of those requirements, you probably just will be OK, at least in my book. Now, kreyol kafe & Bakery is a pretty good place, but it just needs that extra oomph to be a good restaurant. On my visit here, I ordered the gryot (fried pork chunks) with red beans and rice, and some plantains. The meal was pretty good, I specially liked the amount of fat on the pork, and the rice was well cooked. Only problem, it just didn't gel. The pork was a bit overcooked, and the rice didn't have enough flavor. The plantains were also meh, and the pikliz was not spicy hot enough. It was a washed down experience. Yet, looking on the bright side, they keep Haitian food on the map, and this is great! Plus, they also sell baked good. Again, I have had great Haitian food, and this is good, but not 4 star good (although I wish it was). Have you had any?

Chicken weekly lunch special with pikliz

I finally had the chance to eat at the Kreyol kafe and bakery after living by UCF for so long lol. Unfortunately, I didn't have the griole today, but I did order the chicken lunch special. Honestly, for $5, this was a pretty tasty lunch. The saltiness from the slow cooked chicken complemented pretty nicely with the rice and peas and the tangy pikliz! Also, I found that the staff members serving me here were friendly too! My only complaint, is that I wish my chicken pieces were a tad larger to the ratio of rice that I received. But otherwise, the food was good and I would come back to taste the other items on the menu!

I've been wanting to try this place for a while to see if they had authentic Haitian food and they definitely did. I had the griot with black rice. The griot was super tender and the black rice was seasoned so well, a must try! My boyfriend had their fried chicken in sauce lunch special, the chicken was so juicy but they served the sauce in a small cup so we just wished there was more of it because it was good. The pikliz was good, I just wished it was a little bit spicier but other than that it was great if you're looking for real Haitian food in Orlando. We'll be coming back to try their pate!

Even though there are tables and a counter, and an operating bathroom, this place functions more like a takeout window than a restaurant. I have come here many times already and very happy that they are still open, but I am yet to see people sitting down at the tables having dinner. It may change in the future. The food is excellent here. I always order the gryot, pork chunks, that comes with plantains, rice and beans, and salad. The pork is perfectly fried, never greasy or fried in subpar oil. This meal comes with a delicious sauce to dip and pour on everything, and the traditional pikliz or spicy cabbage. I must say that when this place first opened, the pikliz was spicy, as it should, but now it is less spicy. Either way, it is fresh and tasty. If food doesn't trigger you to visit, maybe knowing that the owner is an immigrant Haitian woman may motivate you to stop by. Having lived in Haiti, I truly enjoy Haitian cuisine and know many of the dishes that this unique Caribbean nation provides. Anything fried is better when Haitians fry it. Case in point: gryot. Gryot is none other than deep fried pork chunks, however, this pork rivals the 11 spice secret recipe of the Colonel. If you know how to make gryot, and you can count, you may go over 11 spices. For this reason, gryot made right is a delicacy. Add to that another spice crazed dish, the simple and humble Haitian rice and beans, called "diri kolle", and you got the proverbial foodie party in your mouth. Blessing D is a very simple operation. I called and ordered in English, not Haitian Creole, from a 4 item menu online, showed up, and paid. I got a tray of food large enough to feed 3 people. It came to about the average $15 for this dish at other restaurants, but the quality was superior. Now, is it the best rice and beans? Almost there. Is it the best gryot? Almost there. Was it good? It clearly exceeded expectations, considering the food is not home made style and not fully gourmet style. It's both, yet you know whoever is in the kitchen likes fancy cooking. And I appreciate that. Finally, I have to mention the "pikliz", which is a brined/pickled cabbage and hot habaneros mix that accompanies this dish. It is fresh and spicy as it should be, and one of the best I've had in a while. If all these 3 key components of a simple dish are above my expectations, this place clearly deserves the 5 stars. Next time: fried fish or "poison frit".
